  • Screen burn in (Samsung officially acknowledge the problem) and lack of a dedicated USB port makes these unpurchasable imo.

ya i think burn in issue is across the board with OLED screens. Im assuming you can connect a converter from type c to usb?

The difference being, the Windows task bar is on 24/7…leading to super quick burn in.

Charging and using peripherals at the same time is the problem.

        • Hide the task bar (only appears when hovering over it).

Use black background. Screen saver after 5 mins (black screen).

This will also improve battery life.

For charging while using USB, Get one of these.

        • @lostn:

I have another option…buy a tablet that isn't fundamentally flawed.

For nearly a grand, you shouldn't have to do workarounds.

    • Screen burn in (Samsung officially acknowledge the problem)

Hmm, how did they officially acknowledge it?

does it blow up as a bonus?

    • Nobody knows, because no one is buying this thing.

    I've got one. Love it

Just buy a $20 usb c to usb full and hdmi adapter

  • Apparently these don't work with Anker USB-C PD chargers

  • I tried one of these…there's a few key things that make the Surface Pro with m3 the better buy still:

    1. Ports…The SP4 has a miniDP, a full-size USB3 and a dedicated charging port. This tablet will need a USB-C to multi-port dongle for anything such as external monitors, USB drives or even plugging in a USB drive etc while charging

    2. Pen support…the base Core M3 SP4 doesn't come with a pen but if you do stump up for the pen, it's far, far superior to the Samsung version (which is also a $130 optional accessory for this tablet)

    3. Display…the SP4 display is very accurate and no burn-in issues

However, this device has some good points going for it too:

The samsung is much more compact and light
Better battery life than SP4 by some margin
Keyboard is included ($200 for a keyboard cover, WTF Microsoft?!)

On the balance of it, I don't think it's a bad device for the money, but the need to use dongles for bloody everything is a bit of a faff. And It isn't all that much cheaper than the M3 powered SP4 when you add in the $130 pen, a converter dongle and also get a smaller device…

      Multiport Dongle: USD $34.95 + $5.44 Shipping
      Pen: USD $54.66 + $6.03 Shipping

Shipping is reduced if ordering together. Total price is much cheaper than just the keyboard case alone for SP4, then add the cost of the SP4 stylus.

On the balance of it, I don't think it's a bad device for the money, but the need to use dongles for bloody everything is a bit of a faff.

You only need the dongle if you're charging and using a USB device at the same time. If you don't have type C devices, you can buy a $1 adapter off ebay that converts Type C into A. You will need a dongle for SP4 if using more than one USB device at a time anyway. The question becomes what's more useful? C or A? Right now, A. In the future, maybe C.

And It isn't all that much cheaper than the M3 powered SP4 when you add in the $130 pen, a converter dongle and also get a smaller deviceā€¦

It's a lot cheaper than SP4 if doing an apples for apples comparison. The SP4 costs more to begin with, and remember this is the 4G model which costs more. SP4 does not come in 4G. Apples to apples comparison would be Tabpro S Wifi + Pen vs SP4 M3 + keyboard case ($200) plus stylus (how much is that?). Unlike SP4 accessories, Samsung's accessories are much cheaper and do get discounted. You're buying just a pen vs a pen and keyboard cover. The pen is already cheaper. I don't know where you got the $130 price from. The RRP on Amazon at full price is $80 USD. I'm quite sure the SP4's pen is a lot more than that.

I like the screen better than SP4, despite being a lower resolution. That OLED screen just looks gorgeous. And I prefer the keyboard of the Samsung. The SP4's keys are unnaturally spaced and my normal typing produces a lot of errors.

      • Samsung Australia website lists the pen at $130…of course cheaper elsewhere.

Surface Pen is $95 RRP, can be had on eBay for 80ish

I don't think this is a bad device at all… The prospect of burn in keeps me away though
