Hong Kong Hotel near MTR Station

Hi Folks
We are going to Hong Kong for our Wedding Anniversary. We have never been before, so need some advice please. We will be catching the Airport Express to, and this is where I need help. I want to book into a hotel near a train station. Say a 5 minute walk away. The area should be a safe one, We dont go to nightclubs or anything like that. Did all of that in the 70's. So we would like a nice hotel, near a train station, so that we can easily get around.
As always thanks for your help

  • Why use the MTR when you can stay at The Peninsula and use their cars?

  • Harbour Plazza North Point….straight out the front door, 3 min walk down the street and into the station. North Point is a quieter area of Hong Kong so your probably 15mins by train to Central and 7min to Causeway Bay.

There are lots of other hotels close to stations also if your do some research but it depends how much $$$ you want to pay and how much razzle dazzle you want out your hotel window.

    • as BioBargain says - most hotels are next to or a few minutes walk to an MTR.

the MTR is so awesome (i've lived in Tokyo & London). trains are every 5 minutes and they are extremely punctual, clean and efficient. catching a train in Brisbane is laughable by comparison. train lines go every where as most people use them or buses for transport.

when we went to HK we stayed at the Panda hotel. 20 floor hotel with 3 sub levels of shopping. sure it was 12 stops from the Kowloon bay but the MTR was so efficient that it was relaxing to sit for the 25 minute ride after walking around all day. plus it was relatively close to HK disney land (again -with the MTR everything is relatively close)

panda hotel is very nice but you'd probably want something with a harbour view for your anniversary.

we walked around a lot at night and never felt unsafe. though there are areas that may be not-so-safe but we had no reason to go anywhere near them (if they exist in post colonial HK)

given that you were clubbing in the 70s then I'd assume you are going to HK child free(the bliss!!!)

important question - what's your budget per night?

  • I stayed at Chi Residences 314 right near Jordan MTR station.
It was easy to get to and from the airport by bus, and convenient to the MTR.
The apartments were nice, large for HK, and in a good part of Kowloon.
I would recommend it - but I don't know what sort of traveller you are.

  • There's MTR stations everywhere in HK. One thing that's awesome about HK is public transport.

  • Airport Express and MTR aren't really the same thing. MTR stations are everywhere. 99% of the hotels in Hong Kong are within walking distance to a MTR station. However, there are only 3 Airport Express stations.

While Airport Express and MTR stations are connected, and your connecting MTR is free, there is a short walking distance between the two, often involving escalators/stairs. Depending on how much luggage you have, it could be troublesome, especially during peak hours.

I suggest rather than taking MTR to the hotel, take the complimentary Airport Express Shuttle Bus. The free bus bus stops outside various hotels…and it's free!

Another option is take the taxi from Airport Express Station to your hotel.

Causeway Bay (Hong Kong Island) is a good spot. Close to everything and reasonable price.

Check out The Park Lane. My family and I have stayed there few times. Perfect location (Airport Express shuttle stops right in front)

  • I often stay at Tseung Kwan O Holiday Inn Express or Crown Plaza.

MTR is just downstairs and there is huge and modern shopping centre as well.

Downside is that the location is far east from City. But you get very nice hotels with low price and in my opinnion the location is ok because MTR and shops are just downstairs.

  • I enjoy staying at the East, think it's great value for money, and it's linked to shopping centre (linked as in there's an internal bridge walkway thing do you don't even need to go onto the street) and the mtr is right next door

  • +1

I stayed 4 nites at Harbour Plaza North Point in late Nov 2016. It's certainly convenient for MTR .You can take the public bus from airport to this hotel and it's just 3 minutes walk from the bus stop. I think I paid HK$50 for the one hour trip. Information counter at the airport will be able to tell you the bus route number and waiting area. It's good if you don't have heavy luggage o'wise airport express is probably a better option. If you are taking the public bus, sit quite near to the driver (not upper deck) and ask him to let u know when u arrive at North Point. Have the correct amount before going to the ticketing counter to purchase the tickets. I don't think they sell tickets on this bus route.

The only downside is limited places for food outside the hotel. I had my meals in the shopping malls and prices are reasonable with aussie dollars. You may find some deals on Groupon for this hotel but compare the prices with direct booking on the hotel website. I think I paid A$180 for a double bedroom.

With the MTR less than seven minutes walk, you can visit almost all the tourist destinations. If you are planning to go to Victoria Peak in the evening, be prepared to expect a big crowd and long waiting time.

  • When I was last in HK I stayed at the City View Hotel. Nice, clean but small rooms. It was a great location between the night and lady markets in Kowloon and was across the road from an MTR station.
