Looks a bit like Ikea one

  • Few comments about shades being plastic, not fabric.
Almost identical looking Ikea one shows: Shade: Polypropylene plastic

    Light bulbs sold separately.
Small bulb (E14 screw) reported by some as little difficult to find. Suggests Kmart.
    Ikea:
IKEA recommends LED bulb GU10 200 lumen.
IKEA recommends LED bulb E27 400 lumen globe opal white.
So Ikea has different small bulb.

Might check out at local Target as shows in stock.

Does assembling it involve the cord inside the stem being twisted as the parts are screwed together? Always been a bit iffy about that design, especially after a Kmart one was recalled.

No. This one is different design, with cables emerging to twin switch on outside of tube. Definitely not as neat, but safer. See photo in deal link.

So the safety problem of internal wiring can be twisted resulting in electrical connections becoming loose or dislodged (at swich built into/onto tube) should not be a problem.

Cables in this lamp should rotate at both ends of metal tube, are loose & clearly visible on outside of tube at connector/switch. Against Kmart lamp with cable turning/twisting at 1 end, with fixed connectors at other end on switch, hidden in metal tube - an unseen safety hazard.

infidel, your comments demonstrate the power of this site. Love it when people add their expertise to enlighten others on which product is better or safer to use. Many thanks

    • Ah shucks… But Jabba the Hutt raised an interesting issue. Without that warning I wouldn't have considered the safety of a cheap light fitting.

I just looked at the photos and threw in some experience with electrical safety & design.

At OzBargain… We can learn from each other😯

  • I've got the ikea one, quite happy with it.

  • So which one do people think are better: the target or ikea one? The ikea has another 10% off at ikea tempe for students at the momemnt, so thats the same price.

  • Any idea what to repurposed it for when it stops working. Have one which is dead and just think you can use the pole for something but not sure what. Any creative ideas?

    • Put the pole in the bedroom and try pole dancing? :)
Sorry I had to say it.

If it's less than one year old, have you tried warranty claim?
