The Nokia 3310's Return (It's Coming Back)

Hello

Just a quick announcement from the news, Nokia is going to bring back the old Nokia 3310 which I'm pretty sure most of you know of. Which means more games of Snake! According to 9News it will retail for $88.

Will you buy one?

You need a third option- no because I still have my old 3310 and it works fine!

  • retro game consoles, retro phones.

    I've still got a few CRT's kicking around….

Wasn't there an issue where it wouldn't work with modern networks? Is this being fixed?

I wonder if they're looking back at their market share and think that because it was popular than, it will still be popular now.

  • They need to update its internals to 3G otherwise it won't work for long. Vodafone is the last network in Oz to shut down 2G which is by the end of September.

If you just want a 3310 for fun for the next few months, aliexpress sells refurbished ones for around $15. I'd get the 8310 though. Less iconic but smaller and better looking.

    • the new 3310s will be 3G And 4G capable

      • And probably have to charge it overnight lol

        • Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • Would of preferred the Sony Ericsson t18

I could actually see myself reverting to just calls and text; using a tablet a night for everything else (social media, games etc).

Bad thing would be no access to maps to find places on the go.

  • I read this..stolen info from the News.something somewhere.
"The Australian availability of all four Nokia devices is yet to be announced, but there is no doubt the 3310 would sell based on nostalgic appeal alone.

HMD would just have to make them compatible with modern day SIM cards, the 4G network and modern messaging standards — all without losing the durability and battery life that made the original so appealing.

……the company will launch a “modern version” of 3310 at the MWC in Barcelona this month".

I still have mine, and the next model - the first with 'color screen' although the keypad is very worn - it rattles.
Reading between the lines, it will pass 2g, but how new spec'ed, dunno. Yes, I want another, & $80ish is Ozbargain cheap.

As I just heard on 1 of the morning shows, this will be perfect for kids. Can't just give them an emergency phone these days where they don't have access to social media and the issues surrounding it.
Barry basic phone with good battery life = good for kids, maybe also for tradies

  • It's a good come back but the thing is who will buy it? And what if Nokia faces a loss launching it?

Most of the people who liked their old Nokia phones have kept them safe with them. Even I have my old Nokia with me and I even use it when I travel. While I use my smartphone only when I need a camera or wants to contact someone abroad for video calling or so.

However, if kids don't mind taking one at an early age then it would be best for them. As it is the most suitable device for kids because they seldom forget their phones anywhere and even drops off their phones frequently. Anyways, wishing good luck to Nokia for their sales!

    • Having been to developing countries like Thailand and Vietnam, even the country hicks who farm for a living have smart phones now. I even spoke to a fisherman who owns an iPhone 4..

      • True! That is what I wanted to say. Nokia can still be seen in people's pockets but they only keep it as an alternative. The main functional phone they use is the smartphone.

  • Will be hard to crack the market, nostalgia is one thing, but when there are entry level smartphones around that price point people will want the full functionality of a smartphone.

$88 is a bit steep if you're just buying it for snake, although it is a cracker of a game!

    • And the nintendo mini consoles arent flying off the shelves on there oen.

  • Yes it's back. However it has no 3G/4G network.

    • Would've bought one if it was 3G. Sigh

  • They should've just stuck with the old design and old screen but with updated network hardware. Have you seen the new snake? Absolute rubbish.

    • I agree, very disappointed with the new design, might as well just buy an old one

      • I think Nokia would have debated which design based on the largest market:
        1. people buying as a back up and robust alternative for outdoor activities and camping.
        2. for the shits and giggles.
        3. for kids

I think 3 was most lucrative.

        • Most people were probably thinking it would be like nostalgia
