Its part of Final Fantasy's 30th anniversary special
The psn one is cheaper at $7.55 not sure on any difference between the two versions (apart from the ps4 exclusive version which adds a ridiculous surcharge) if you have a ps3 or vita the other version is better value

    • +3

PS3 version is a PSOne dump.

The PS4 version is a remaster with HD / Translation fixes / Trophies / etc

FYI - PS4 version of FFVII is US$7.99 on the US store if that's your bag

      • Fair enough. That justifies the price then. But when i look at the images "hd remaster" only adds some anti aliasing the edges are nicely smoothed out. Still holding out for the remake. Cant wait. I guess its good for trophy hunters. Also the midgar theme if that fancies anyone.

        • Advantage of the PSOne dump that's available for PS3 is that it also works on PS Vita. So if you've got a Vita and want to play FFVII on the go, it's worth looking at that one.

      • its not a remaster mate, its a port of the pc version, however the one advantage is the ability to play the game at 4x speed to get through boring bits and the unlimited hp mode for people who find it hard

      • remaster or "HD" does not make the backgrounds better looking. They are still 320x240 source. The 3D polygons will look cleaner, but there will still be lego hands and popeye arms.

I bought this yesterday and it came with a final fantasy vii midgar ps4 theme as well as the game. The theme is awesome.

      • The US PSN version doesn't say it comes with a theme :( Did it come automatically when you downloaded the game or did you get a separate code?

        • +1

I bought it on the aus ps store. Didnt get a code to redeem, it just automatically downloaded the game and the theme as separate downloads after the purchase.

        • @undefined:
OK awesome in that case I should get it too :D

        • If it doesnt state you get the theme on the US store, I don't know if the game will automatically come with the theme. Can only speak for the Aus store, which I downloaded from.

  • Part of the special, as per this post.

    • +2

      Yeah except different platform

      • Right. Sorry, it does mention the other platforms were coming in the deal post, I didn't realise he put PC in the title though. Not sure why.

        • +2

          Sorry

All good and I didn't neg you :)

        • @Spackbace:
          No stress, dude :)

I'm one of the few people who hasn't played this game. Purchased and downloading. Thanks!

      You lucky S.O.B

If you can handle the 'out-dated graphics (the FMV's are still wonderful) you're in for a treat

      • -1

Yeah I thought I could relive my childhood, but the outdated graphics isn't the same experience anymore even with the available cheats

        • +3

You need a CRT for the graphics to "smooth out" the rough edges.

        • @decr: Or you could play the PS1 version on PSP with 1:1 scaling. It still looks very nice on that system, and I would argue the definitive way to play. The PS4 version improves the 3D graphics but the 2D still looks like ass.

        • @lostn: i have the psone and ffvii also. Playing on todays tv is the killer

        • @jayzorz: That's why I suggest playing on PSP. The resolution closely matches the PS1, and if you play without scaling, it still fills up almost the whole screen.

It will not look stretched or pixellated on that screen.

      • Graphics are perfectly fine to me :) Really enjoying it so far!

        • Yeah same. Im actually impressed woth the graphics. The battles look really great and the low res town backgrounds arent that bad at all. Only thing that looks outdated are the FMV cinematics. It definitely looks better than on an old tv or tiny low res handheld screen.

    • I'm curious how you'll find it. While it is my favourite game of all time, there was definitely a time and a place to play it. I find I can't really go back and enjoy them because the pacing is just off compared to the modern games I"m used to.

Basically the same way sometimes old comedy groups television shows are boring because we've had refined/improved iterations of it.

That being said I'm still going to buy this during the sale just in case I ever get the itch.

  • Cheers, bought. Look forward to playing through for the 10th + time. Just need to buy a PS4 to play it on…

I Bought below for total $62.89 USD from the US PSN Store. All are for the Vita but I opted to get FF7 on PS4 rather than the Vita PS1 classic due to being able to turn off random encounters (I remember eventually getting nervous ticks when I played FF7 as a kid walking around due to random encounters) and 3 X Speed

I have Final Fantasy X/X-2 Physical for Vita already so didn't purchase

    FINAL FANTASY® VII
FINAL FANTASY® VIII (PSOne Classic) (1.78 GB Required)
FINAL FANTASY® VI (PSOne Classic) (193 MB Required)
FINAL FANTASY® IX (PSOne Classic) (1.5 GB Required)

So much this! Until you get to Level 99 and master everything with everybody's ultimate weapon.

      • +1

Did you also leave your PS on with a rubber band on the tumbstick and anther over the x button while you were asleep and at school to farm AP to level your materia in the crater without you having to do it manually? :D

        • No…I legitimately did everything with my own two hands! Hundreds and hundreds of hours spent on this game…

  • +1

It's a good game, especially if you don't have it yet on other platforms.

I am waiting for the official remake for PS4 though.

    • +3

I am waiting for the official remake for PS4 though.

      Can't wait for 2030!

      • +1

And then 2040 for the 2nd Episode where you arrive in Kalm.

    • +4

When I found out that Square Enix is ditching the ATB battle system in FFVII remake for FFXV-style combat, I was so pissed I eventually sold my PS4 and pre-ordered the Nintendo Switch. I understand modernisation but ATB is FFVII. Removing that just makes it a different game entirely. It'd be like if Nintendo made their main Pokemon games real-time. It's just wrong.

      • -3

ATB is too hard for casuals, there is too much focus on making good decisions in battle.

Realtime is where its at, mash your gamepad buttons and hope for the best!

Or better yet if you play final fantasy 13, just use the auto button and don't use your brain at all!

        • Yeah, because spamming KOTR requires intelligence.

        • Yeah, FFXIII has no strategy at all! Just press Auto and watch as the game selects your party members, sets up your paradigms, equips the best weapons and accessories for each role and then with perfection, switches between those paradigms as exact combinations of roles are needed during battle.

        • @Orpheus: That animation is very long. Sure it does good total damage, but dps is poor. If you want to do high damage fast and not wait 2 minutes, use 4x cut with a 9999 damage weapon, or ominislash with a 9999 weapon, which does something like 17 hits. This is more than KOTR.

What I like to do is put 16 counter attack materia on Cid with his ultimate. He will always do 9999 dam as long as your SP is full (it should always be full because you don't use it). Every time someone hits him, even accidentally from an AOE, he will retaliate with 9999 damage 16 times. And it is faster than KOTR.

        • @lostn: You totally missed my point.

        • -1

@Orpheus: Actually I think you're the one that missed his point if you think his idea of making good decisions = spamming KOTR.

        • -1

@lostn: my point is that you end up spamming the strongest attacks in the end. Just because its turn based it doesnt necessarily mean it requires any more skill.

  • FINALly

  • its not the remake….damn you excited me for 1 sec

I remember when my brother got every item in FFVII except the Cursed Ring as it was impossible to get after a certain story event.

So he finishes this ~100 hour game for the second time, then immediately starts again from the beginning to get that one ring..

    • +1

      …to rule them all

      • It's actually a pretty good ring despite the fact it tries to kill you.

  • +2

I still remember the bloody Aeris/Aerith revival rumours. Those were annoying.

    • +2

Nice name though. We named our daughter Aeriss. :P

      • +1

Nice! Glad you got the missus' approval!

I toyed with the name Tifa for our daughter and the wife liked it too, but ultimately went with a more conventional name. Would've gone with Cid for our son, but he too has a conventional name. haha

  • i wish this supports cross-save with vita…..

  • +1

    Best game ever

  • -5

It's terribly dated and the story is a complete mess.

    • Yeah it's dated but so what? The story is amazing. Only game that has ever made me cry. Hits you right in the feels.

  • +2

i swear i bought this game like a million times already

    • +1

They legit need to make one CD key which works on all platforms.

  • -1

Or you can wait 10 years for the remake.
