Tourist Visa for Australia to Stay The Longest

Hi
I am a proud Aussie citizen and applying for a tourist visa for my dad and I want him to stay here the longest with us. He is in india and I want to sponsor him soon just saving as the fee is like $55k . Can anyone please advice what is the way to go about it and the best way to stay longest so that he does not have to come and go everytime as my mum and brother would be here soon too as residents and I do not want to leave him alone as he had stroke once. Thanks a lot guys.

Your best bet is to contact Dept of Immigration and ask. This forum can only give you a certain amount of advice anyway, you're better off not wasting energy and just call them to find out.

    or……………

I know some fishermen in Indonesia that could get him here for a lot less than $55k….. ;) ;) ;)

    • I'd rather pay and do it the right way

  • Apply for Aged Dependent Visa. Fees $4000

    • Thanks do you know what's the wait time for it please ?

you sure you got the right one?

          https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Brin/Fami/Capping-and-queuing…

Based on current planning levels and the allocation of the majority of the Other Family places to the Carer visa category, it is currently estimated that Remaining Relative and Aged Dependent Relative visa applications that were lodged in 2014 and meet the criteria to be queued are likely to take approximately 50 years to be released for final processing (calculated from 14 August 2014).

That's the fee for the long wait process.

  • My partners mum had her mum (so my partners grandmother) come over to stay and then when her visa was about to expire she went to NZ for a few days/week then came back and she had another visa created. I guess this would work for something that you know would not be permenant, but if you are trying to make it become a permenant stay then you may have more complications with this route.

    • Thanks for that but apparently you have to stay out for 6 months now but I might call immigration

      • edit:

yeah just had a look sorry - she was travelling from england which gives her a 12 month visa with 3 months stay after each entry

If i were you, I would cancel the plans for perm migration for u'r dad but instead send that money to him so that he can live like a King in India, where medical treatment and cost of living is cheap and come over for visits when he wants to.

Also something to consider is the 5 year long stay visa which has been proposed:

    • I did think of that but loneliness would kill him and it's a bit emotional decision.

It costs $55K to sponsor someone? seriously?
The government must think that money grows on trees!

    • They do and they make you wait like 2.5 years for it too !! That's what you get for doing it the right way !!

      • I'm a little shocked, to say the least! $55K is not an easy amount to save!

I was born here and, admittedly, I've probably been on the side of taking it for granted.
At the time my parents came, the government paid all their expenses as refugees.

The idea is that it pays for future healthcare, public education and social security.

And the 2.5 years might be to make you a patient man.

        • hi, did u check that you have meet family balance test for this kind of visa? or not required.?

    • and if the sponsored person dies during the process I understand you lose the money paid.

      • You pay at the time it is granted.

        • Perhaps I was not listening to hear the Immigration officer when I asked him this question as my dependent parents are in the late 70's.

    • There are cheaper avenues, this is an express option.

Do what Christopher Skase did…get him into the country and then pay some medical professionals to declare that he is unfit to travel…like forever.
