The Opal card reader usually has a Red cross on the display showing you that you can't tap off when the bus is in motion, so most likely that person might not have saved any money at all.

dingnot in my dealings with them. i tapped on a bus but the machine went faulty before i was about to get off so i couldnt tap off. i rang them and they recreditted the overcharge.

I will start off although mine example is bit more idiotic rather than craziest. Lining up for almost an hour couple of times to get free meal at Grilled & GYG store openings things.
