Travelling to New Zealand, Where to Change Money?

Hi I am travelling to South island in March for 2 1/2 weeks, travelling following the transalpine train route and sceneries. Any recommended things to do or place to visit?

My other question is how frequently do I have to pay in cash over there and how much and where to change AUD to NZD? Are they as much as an "EFTPOS" country like Oz?
I already have a Citibank debit.

Just withdraw using your citibank card when you get there.

Out of the maybe dozen times I withdrew money while I was there a year ago using various branded ATMs, only one ATM wanted to charge me a fee - ANZ. So I just went to the different branded one behind it.

    • Exactly what I did. Avoided ANZ, but all else fee free that I encountered. Almost everywhere accepted the card except didn't work a few times in take away food places, so just made sure has a few hundred cash handy in case.

Isn't the Citi bank debit card changing, and now there will be a 2.5% fee on withdraws

My experience is that Visa/Eftpos is accepted even more universally in NZ than it is in Australia.

For cash, ATMs (with the Citibank Plus account) is the way to go.
