    • Bulk discounts, they probably got a hundred of these at a time so they can pass the savings to us.
They also sell them in bulk, 2 at a time, so sales move faster.

It's unlikely that MSY would order a hundred of these at a go, since they have a lots of other things they need to keep in stock as well.

      • +1

MSY as a group would order 5000 of these at a time!

        • I ordered 20 Hard drives for my build the other week.

So ordering 100 isnt that much.

Each box AFAIK holds 20 HDD's

          • @Turd: Must be over a thousand but how come sold out in 20 mins.

      • scrimshaw, you're joking right? MSY would easily order 100 at a time, depending on the drive. Considering they have about 25 stores nationwide. But the quantity would not be in the same league as PricesEngine.

PricesEngine talk to their suppliers to see what components they can offer at bulk special prices at any given time. Obviously the supplier can do deals on certain products and not others depending on factors like stock levels, run-out stock, markup, etc.

MSY operate on a different model.

      • The got these disks as bundle deal from supplier. E.g. you purchase a mother board for $200(original $210 or around), then you are eligible to purchase a hard disk for $100 ($130 or around).
Another reason is the actual price of the disk falls. It may because that model benefits from mass production. Or there is a new model coming soon to replace it.
Most time you will see this kind of clearance on lower end products. For these kind products, they earn money by selling more. For high end products, price margin are higher.

  • Come on guys.. stop buying them so fast… I missed all the good harddrive deals. :(

  • I still haven't received my 2x1G offer.

  • Tera pirates…2 x 2GB OMFG!

  • +1

Damn I would have bought this in a second if I had more sata connections… I should have bought a better motherboard…

    • just by an add on sata card, or hardware raid card >:-)

  • missed the 2T sale again, cant beleive it.

    • It's unfortunate… I believe most components at PE are bought by resellers in multiples. Usually the average person misses out on the good deals.

      • limit to one per paypal account…. so maybe you can get one or two.. but thats about it.

    • frustrating - some people have things to do in the middle of the day…. bugger.

      • yea i kinda agree, it's on at 10am here in WA, which isn't as bad.

  • Now they have a mono laser printer linked on the same page as the HDDs (which are still sold out). Hardly a perfect match LOL. I wonder what happened to the NAS that was there earlier?

  • For those who are crying bait and switch….
How the heck can it be bait and switch? There's no other product to switch with.

  • Hey I got an email from Prices Engine saying they are no longer operating. What about the orders that were already placed?

EDIT: Website says Customer Service is still open for queued orders. Hmm..

  • Prices Engine says it is until they sort out a problem with Paypal holding onto large amounts of their funds.
I have heard of this happening before with sudden large numbers of transactions with Pay Pal.

  • it's too risky to buy from someone without any ABN and physical address.

    • Don't worry, I've got my ordered item without any problem.

    • PricesEngine has an ABN (why it's not there now I don't know, but it was there previously and it's the same company as 9289.com.au, IDEAM Pty Ltd ABN 66 128 917 680).

    discussions about the paypal thing…

man hope they get these drives out… hope they don't hold onto them until the paypal dispute is taken care of.

everyone from ozbargains needs to ring paypal and blast them!

  • update:

  • Good news, my drives arrived this morning, in and detecting… gotta get a couple more for my RAID system before i can use them…. of note, they have been in for about an hour and a half, and i did hear some clicking… may have been spinning down…

mate hasnt received his, his paypal wasnt verified, he wrote to them to tell them it wasnt verified when he ordered them but it is now verified, then they wrote back saying they are holding the drives for him, and will send them when it is verified….?????
man they need to learn to read emails better, because of that there will be a few days delay for his order!
    edit:
5 hours and one set of clicking only…

    • how many drives have you got and how many are clicking?

the way i read it was, you got one set and that set is clicking ?

      • yeah one set, 2 drives so far, heard a clicking sound, not sure if it was one both or something else in the case… (liquid cooling bubble, but didnt sound like anything normal.)

not using them at the moment as i still need another two, but they are plugged in…

  • Got mine today :)

  • Got mine as well :-)

  • Got a problem with mine today.

for hte last few days it had intermittent clicking noise when not being accessed.

today it make a weird buzz and click, then back to normal.

backing up all the data atm, but might need replacement?

anyone else have similar problem? what should i do now that pe is bust!

  • So is pricesengine definitely gone? Shame.

I am cautious of ordering hdds from internet based sites. I ordered 2 from shopping square and 1 of the 2 arrived DOA, now its so much more trouble involved in trying to get this fixed. I wonder if i have to pay for postage back etc.
