Laptop for Gaming? ThinkPad E570?

I've been looking to get a laptop that I can primarily use for gaming (would also maybe use for work so being able to carry it around is beneficial but not the most important factor) (I already have a desktop so no need to buy another)

So far the ThinkPad E570 deal looks like the best value for money that I can find? (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/290342)

I would only like to spend around $1,000 and probably wouldn't go into the $1,500+ range if it only gives me a marginal boost of performance.

As for the game I play its dota 2 but I would like to get high fps while playing this and be able to experience smooth game play, overwatch is also a game I play but only casually so don't mind too much if it couldn't handle high fps on overwatch. I would typically spend about 12 hours a day playing such games so battery life and overheating may be of a concern

Any feedback or possible other laptop suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like the laptop should meet your requirements. Don't have any other recommendations for you though.

Someone in that post said "you're not going to get much better than a 950m at $1000" so this is probably a decent choice for you.

The best bang for buck for the $1500 range if you were willing to go that far is the Dell gaming laptop on sale at the moment for 20% off. $1900 down to $1519.

Great specs for the price, but probably overkill if you're just playing DOTA2. I just bought this laptop and it outpaces my gaming desktop that I built recently

CPU in the Dell is quad core and the GTX 960 is quite a bit better than the 950.

But to be fair, I don't think it's worth an extra $500 for those two upgrades

      • NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB GDDR5 graphics memory

        • Odd, the Features page on that link mentions a GTX 960 but the Specs shows 1050.
In which case, the 1050 is lightyears ahead of the 950

        • @blonky: Oh wow you're right. They must have upgraded the specs and forgotten to update the marketing material.

  • Thanks for the great feeedback so far! I'm thinking that while the Dell would be a nice upgrade from the lenovo im not sure its worth the extra 50% in total price.

Another question I forgot to ask was is this 15.6" screen going to be sufficient for high quality gaming? I currently have a 22" 60hz ViewSonic monitor for my desktop

& How will internet be if im using my home wifi? Would be buying a wifi extender so it can reach to my room and I dont have NBN im with optus, any more info to help you give me an idea about how the internet will be please let me know (sorry for 'noob' questions)

  • Bump for last minute suggestions as the deal runs out in 24 hours

    • How about the one Scotty just posted for $919?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/293991

      Or is it too late?

      • Just saw that one, screen is smaller (14 vs 15.6), 8gb ram vs 16gb, and has the 940MX. Probably wouldn't consider downgrading to these specs just to save myself $100. In the end im going to hold out a little longer on pulling the trigger on a laptop, I dont have any doubts that I will see the same lenovo deal come back in a couple of weeks.

  • look at the metabox laptops from kongcomputers

    • Just had a quick glance at the laptops there, they all seem to have a bit less specs for abit higher price than what lenovo deals offer

      • i find that hard to believe for example the 1050 laptop goes for 1300. and i think lenevos is starting at 1500

        • Couldn't find the 1050 in lenovo's laptops, their site doesn't seem that friendly for browsing around for me. Compared it to the dell deal that a poster above linked (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Inspiron-15-7000-Gaming-Core…)and with the windows 10 OS and upgraded to the 16GB ram that is on special it works out to be $58 more expensive for the metabox, not sure what the difference in build quality would be for the dell compared to the metabox though
