Travelling to France and Italy via Singapore - Sim Card recommendations

Hiya

Going to France and Italy for just over 2 weeks and Stopping in Singapore/ Phuket for a week
Singapore and Thailand I know cheap sims can be bought at airport, just not sure about France and Italy

Would be travelling to Lourdes, Paris, Venice and Amalfi coast ( not confirmed) and Rome.

I would be needing 2 SIM cards mainly for Data as we would be using Skype, Whatsapp and messenger

I remember someone mentioning that there is SIM in Singapore that is valid in x number of countries , but can't seem to find it

Any help would be highly appreciated

Try and get a 3 UK sim. It's £30 for unlimited in the UK and something like 3 or 4 GBs in the EU zone.

There was a deal on here a while back , just make sure it can be activated outside the UK. I believe they can now but you might want to double check.

    • Thanks saw that deal but having delivery issues

I think there is sim card in Singapore that has very decent roaming charges
Can't remember which forums I read it

      • Normally buy cheap sim at airports in Asia

        • I will "buy" if they are free for sim only:P otherwise outside airport

      • The Happy Roam offer from StarHub provides data in a number of countries including Singapore and a Thailand but doesn't cover Europe. You might be best to pick this up in Singapore and then get another card in France to cover your European trip.

        • thanks, seems like the best option
Got Telstra's roaming to my phone just in case

  • Depending on how much internet you plan on using whilst in the Eurozone, you could always buy a Sim in the city you will spend the most and then roam into the other country.

Due to new laws soon to be enforced in June (You didnt mention your flight date) you can use 1GB of Data for 7 Euros.. its outlined here fyi - http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_MEMO-16-4396_en.htm

    • Nice that with would be handy unfortunately travelling in 2 days

Can't speak for Thailand, but unless you absolutely must have a Singapore SIM the moment you reach the airport, wait until you're closer to the city, where they're about half the airport price.

    • yeah most definitely :) would be buying close to city

    • Singtel SIMs in the airport at the same ones and price as elsewhere. Once you get out of the airport there are more options than just Singtel, but imo they were all about roughly the same price.

      • When I went through SIN last September, I couldn't find anything at the airport (both air side and land side) that suited my needs for under S$30, regardless of carrier (Singtel, StarHub or M1). To get the M1 SIM that I wanted (S$15 for S$18 credit) I had to go to an M1 store in town.

        • Wife is Singaporean so there a couple of times a year. We usually grab the $15 Singtel card from the tourist box right outside immigration. You may have just gotten unlucky and it was sold out.

    Some light reading for you….

One of the StarHub options might be your best bet for Singapore and Phuket, if you don't want to bother with a Thai SIM. (This assumes that you're going to Singapore first.)

    • awesome, thank you!
I think it was starHub will dig into it

  • For Thailand at Airport we got 2sims for 500 THb both 7 days validity it Is called True Mobile
    1)6gb 4g data/100thb credit for 299
    2)3gb 4g data and then unlimited 3g for 199
