Training week pay will be deducted if left before 2 months.

Hi Ozbargainers,

I joined this security company few weeks ago on a condition that I will get atleast 40 hrs a week or get full-time soon.

They had this page among other documents that said. Your first week is your training week and if you go before two months you will not be entitled to get that mobey back.

On my first week i was given 40 hours than 30 and than 26 hrs a week. Obviously, i need a sustainable income thats why i joined the company.

Only my first day was my training as i was learning and wasn't working that much. However i started working the very next day of my first week by myself and with little assistance (comon thing when you start a new work, you ask!)

What should I do? Look for other jobs or call them?

Give Fair Work a call and see what they say. It'll depend on what you signed and what award you're working under.

There are very, very strict circumstances under which an employee can deduct your wages.

Not to be prejudice, but I imagine in the security field, they get a certain range of employees who may not know their rights.

The law is you have to be paid for every day you work, so 2nd day onward I would say it's a no brainer.

I've heard previously that a training shift requiring one on one may be treated a bit different, but the fact they pay you if you stay on suggests that they recognise it as a day worked, therefore legally cannot withhold the pay.
