Anyone have a pocket spring mattress they can recommend?

Are pocket spring mattresses any good? Do they go soft after a while?

I'm after a mattress that will feel (almost) as good as the day i bought it! haha.

cheers, everyone!

    Hi,
We had a few months of "mattress hunting" where we have tried all available models on the market including the pocket spring ones. We have come to the conclusion that the only type deserving attention is the latex one. It was a good 10 years ago well before the tempur mattress hit the market in OZ.
In the morning after the first night on the latex mattress in my life I felt my back telling me "Thank you!". It was a King Size 20cm thick.
The tempur ones are even better but I have no information how long they last. The latex ones are around for a long time and they are known to be included in some people's legal wills.
I would think that a latex mattress with a tempur layer on the top should be enough to give your spine a proper decompression during the bed time.
Back ten years ago the latex mattress we bought was the best investment in ourself.
It wasn't the best quality on the market then but after ten years it is still as good as a new or almost, I should say. I am confident for the next ten years it will be OK and then we may have some other technology to try.
Have fun in your mattress hunt!

  • Thanks very much for your comment. Any idea about the brand of your mattress? Did you say you bought ti ten years ago? Has it developed indentations at all?

    Hi again Janeymac,

From Forty winks, Simmons, King Koil and Crown Posture do a pocket springs. Simmons is probably 2nd to none in that department, because of the quality. King koil would be a close 2nd, and then Crown Posture is more a budget pocket spring, still very nice and comfortable but not as much detail to the mattress like your simmons brand (all brands have a 10yr warranty though) You will get body impressions in all three brands of pocket spring, but that is normal, as I have explained here. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/29428

In regards to Tempur and Latex - they are FANTASTIC for pressure relief. Another thing I would recommend is Flexgel (see here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/7850 - but note they have brought out new ranges of flexgel since this posting and are named differently)

I love latex but I didn't feel as comfortable on tempur, but everyone is different and have there own likes and dislikes. Beware when getting full latex mattresses though, there are some very dodgy makes of latex mattresses out there. Always ask the type of processing they use to make the latex, how long does it take to make their mould of latex etc etc.. I can help when choosing a good latex mattress! :) Tempur is pretty much the same across the board just different sizes from store to store, ie some retailers have exclusive rights to sell 20cm deep tempur and others a 25cm or 23cm or even 30cm tempur matt.. Just try and see if you like them…

Sorry for the long winded info, but hopefully it helps :)

    • Hi there Tuhan, please give me some latex mattress recommendations !!!
      cheers

      • try the Simmons Willowbrook, and the ones from Natures Rest, Cypress and Heather… They would be the pick of them.

        • cheers mate. My wife and I will try them out. Are these brands for sale in all the Brisbane Forty Winks stores? Or is there a good store I should visit ? ;)

          • @clandestino: haha - all for sale at any forty winks store… The Simmons Willowbrook isn't on any particular sale at the moment, but all stores will do a good deal for Cash/credit card payment… The Natures Rest brands are on a great sale atm though!

I don't get any commission or anything from Forty Winks, and I like to remain anonymous just in case the big guys at FW don't like what I am doing.. :) Which is letting you guys (the customers) know what price you can and should get :) But if you want to come my way (knowing you will never get ripped off and get a few extra things you wouldn't normally get) you are more than welcome to find me ;)

  • Hi,

The brand of our latex mattress is "Sleepeezee" and the model is "Enviro". This is (or it was) the site of the factory: Address: 27-29 Jesica Rd, Campbellfield, VIC, 3061,Phone number: (03) 93579666.
Again, it wasn't the top brand at the time. It was the cheapest deal for a King Size and I would assume not the best quality. It has developed an indentation, regarding my wife (my weight is over 105kg) with a shape of my body but it is not visible at all. Every night just before sleep I turn on my left side then on my right side and my spine cracks, releasing the pressure. The latex works for me at this moment.
Thanks Tuhan for the valuable info.
I could provide photos of my mattress as well.

  • No one can really tell you what mattress is good for you. Tempur on paper sounds great, but gets so hot and clamy its just not great for everybody. Same with full latex mattress, hot a clammy, but excellent life.

Try try try is all I can say. After a few months I ended up with pocket springs + latex combo. Got the best of both worlds. Flexgel as Tuhan says was also fantastic but out of my budget at the time.

  • +1 for Tempur, its the only mattress to date I've done a bed dive and not having to suffer the rebound :P

    • I like a bit of rebound. if you know what i mean

      • hahaha - Good call!

      • lol. for that, I recommend water beds… absolutely fantastic ;)
