• Wow I'm currently looking for a mattress myself. I'm in Melbourne. Hope they bring the sale here.

Is Kingkoil a good range though? I was originally looking at the Sealy Posturpedic range, but if its' quality is comparable and cheaper than I'll gladly switch.

Also any deal on the memory foam mattresses?

• +3

King koil is very good. They come under the name A.H beard which have been selling beds for over 100yrs.. Sealy is fantastic, but you do pay extra for the name imho… There doesn't seem to be any specials on Tempur or memory foam mattresses at this stage. My suggestion is go in and try the ones that are on sale, and then try the Sealy ones (you'll always get a discount if you're paying cash/credit card on the Sealy ones anyway)… If you notice enough of a difference to pay the extra for Sealy, then I say go for it, but if you don't then save yourself some money. :)

• Thanks much for that! I'll go in on the weekend and scout out any major comfort differences.

I think I read something about Forty Winks (or maybe it was Captain Snooze?) doesn't have any return policy even if I don't pull off the plastic?

• No problem at all.. Remember the sale doesn't start til Next Tuesday, but you might be able to talk the salesperson into doing the sale prices now if you want to get in early.

Yeah, there isn't any written law (well none that I know of) that says you can return the mattress if you don't like it after 'x' amount of days.. I believe Sleepy's has a 60night comfort guarantee.. But I would say that each store (forty winks) would make sure that you go through all your choices and select the best one for yourself. If you find that after a couple of weeks of sleeping on it and just can't sleep well (which can happen) then I am sure the store you bought it from would do something (most likely find something else)… The thing to remember is that a new mattress is like a new pair of shoes, it takes a week or so to get use to it.

• Snooze currently have free upgrades to king size from queen on selected beds. I wonder if it includes any of these from Forty Winks so get Snooze to price match then upgrade to king for free. :)

• Haha Unfortunately Stix There is no same mattress/bed for all retailers… For example, Sleepmaker make a range for Forty Winks another range for Snooze and another for Harvey Norman… Same with Sealy etc.. There isn't one same mattress across the board.. Not like a TV or Washing machine…

There will be Mattress similar but will never be exactly the same, and worst of all, they are all differently named even if they are similar to another retailers..

• Well there you go…didn't know that. Thanks for the info Tuhan!

• No problem at all :)

• does fortywink do pick up for the old mattress? I have 2 single beds I want to get rid of and replace with Queen or another single. So getting King Coil is a good choice yea like it holds its reputation?

• +1

If you want them to take away your old mattress then you need to ask them… Once again, not a normal thing they do, but if you ask they should do it. Normally they will give you a bag to wrap up the old mattress to be taken away.

Yes King Koil is very good. There quality is just as good as Sealy and Sleepmaker, etc… But it is like buying an orange and a banana and a pear.. All are good for you, but have different benefits. :)

• Tuhan, could you explain more about the different benefits?
I know nothing about mattress technology, I still sleep on 12 years old bed =p

I need to sleep on my side, doctor order, due to my sleep apnoea. I do have a hip and back problem, not sure if choice of matress will help or not.

Another thing, should I keep the ensemble and get rid of the mattress or ensemble can affect the mattress at all?

CHEERS! ^_^v

• Strange how the fineprint on the website says: Offer valid to 18.07.10. Huh???~

• Yeah I am not too sure why it would say that…. I am just going off the catalogue dates…

• Hey Tuhan, what's the good price for the Jericho Leather Queen Size Bed with Storage Drawers?? Thanks!!~

• If you get the Salesperson down to $1,249 then you getting a pretty good price… That would be the starting point.. Anything better than that would be depended on how generous or what type of sale the store is having… I hope that helps :)

Remember though if you pay full price, you can generally get lots of things thrown in, for example, Latex pillows, Mattress protector, sheet sets etc… In some cases you are getting a better deal by doing that because the value of the other items thrown in would be far better than getting a discount on the bed and then paying for the extra items you need, like the ones mentioned above… This is a great way to save if you need all those things too. I Hope that helps :)

• TOO LATE for me…

SEALY had 40% OFF at DJ's up until last Sunday… Got one there…

• Great job if you got 40% off a Sealy!

• Is there any discount on pillows?? I'm in the market for a couple of new latex pillows, but not a bed. That 2 for one would be handy :P

• Haha - not that I know of… Find someone who needs a bed and then ask them to buy the two for one pillow deal for you :) That is if they don't want to take up the offer themselves.. :P

• Hey Tuhan,

Great to have an inside man! What's a good price for the Simmons APA firm in king for the mattress only?

Or Crown Royal Firm in King for mattress only, or for mattress ensemble combo? Are these double sided or single sided mattresses?

What is the comparable King Koil make (pocket springs, firm on top-no pillow top)?

What do you reckon about pillow tops? any good?

Cheers!

• Hi janeymac,

the Simmons APA Firm in a King Mattress on only - a great price is around the $1700-$1800 mark…
Crown Royal Firm King Matttress is about the $1000 mark… As an esemble, around $1600… (when I say around or about, that means if you can get them to that price you are doing really well)

These mattresses are singled sided pillow tops, nearly all manufactures now only make single sided mattresses now…

I don't really understand your king koil question? are you asking what manufacture is comparible to King Koil, or are you asking about their pocket springs compared to other manufactures pocket springs??

In regards to Pillow tops, if you like a soft feel then that is what pillow tops are for, yes you can get firm pillow tops, the purpose is to give you comfort whilst maintaining a certain level of distance away from the springs. I personally enjoy a soft pillowtop, but not everyone is like me. One thing to note is that no matter what pillowtop mattress you may buy, you will always get body impressions. That is normal and obviously your firmer mattresses will not indent as much as your softer pillowtop mattresses… Either way, it is normal and not something manufactures claim under warranty, unless it sinks past a certain point, of which you will no doubt be very uncomfortable, and it may mean that the springs have collapsed or something. But generally speaking, body impressions are normal.

I hope that helps :)

Tuhan!

• Tuhan - do you know if the sale is on in NSW, particularly Sydney?

• As far as I know it is, but I can't be sure with 100% certainty, just call up your local forty winks and ask if they are having the "get a better bed" sale with discounts on King Koil and Nature's Rest. you'll know for sure then.

Edit: Just looked at the Forty Winks website and I can confirm it is a National Wide sale. Which obviously means NSW too :)

• Hello tuhan,
I'm in melbourne here.

Would you be able to give me a rough price guide for a:
- King Linea suite
- King Feathertop suite
- King Esperance Suite

Also would you be able to recommend me which brand to look for the mattress ?
I kind of sleep on my side.

greatly appreciated :)

• Hi (lots of letters and numbers for a name lol)

Not too sure who makes the Linea Suite, so if you can tell me then I will be able to give you some info..

For the Feathertop I don't think they make it in a King, and there are a couple of options that you can get, ie timbre and iron, or timbre and upholstery, so price would vary depending on your choice. I would have to check with the Manufacturer, but I haven't seen any pricing for the king bed.. sorry. But if they do do it I would say a good price in the King Suite, (priced with Tallboy, not dresser and Mirror and as a timbre/upholstery bed) $3,300… But once again, would have to check.

For the Esperance Suite in a King, I am assuming you just want the king bed (excluding draws), 2 x bedsides, and 1 x tallboy - $4,300… If you want the Dresser and Mirror instead of the Tallboy add an extra $800…

In regards to a Mattress, I would need to know what type of feel you like, ie soft, medium or firm. What your budget is (how much you want to spend) and the types of benefits you are looking for, ie minimal partner disturbance, latex or visco to help with pressure relief, strong spring system because weight is 120kg's+.. etc etc… These are the things I generally ask (or see) before I recommend any mattress. Your best bet is to go into the store and try the ones the salesperson gets you to try, then if you like any of those, I can let you know how much you should be able to get it for :)

I hope that helps.

• Thanks Tuhan. great info!

• Heya Tuhan!
I've just been to a Fortywinks store, and I narrowed down to 2 brands. One is King Koil Cypress and the other one is Crown Synergy Ultra Plush.

Cypress Queen - $2799
Crown Synergy Ultra Plush - $4249 from $4999

In your expertise, what is your view on both beds? Is the Crown one worth paying extra $1000s?

I was told the latex for the Crown one is talalay which has more expensive treatment, hence the price.

Cheers! ^_^

ADD: From what I read, latex wil feel hot to sleep on, should I aim at Flex Gel then?

• Hi Mysrh - just letting you know I've seen your post and more than willing to help out, I will get back to you asap on those products…

• Thanks for that, Tuhan, much appreciate it =)
I've been reading people's experiences on latex and most of them come with the same thing, that it's super hot.

So another alternative I have is latex based bed with flexgel as pillowtop.

I remembered from last year there're flexgel 1000 2000 and 3000, but the salelady only knows one flexgel type.

Which one is better as base, latex or pocket coil?

They do remove the old ensemble and mattresses and it'll cost me $60.

• +1

Ok

For the Cypress Queen Ensemble (I think that is what you want) the price of $2,799 is an absolute bargain, if it were not for this current deal Nature's Rest are doing you best price would be about the $3,300

The Crown synergy, I don't know that mattress - maybe give me more details, Is it made by Crown Posture?? I don't think Crown make any mattresses (for forty winks) in that price catergory.. They are your more budget and middle range mattresses.

Don't worry too much about the brand - worry more what is inside the mattress and the quality. As long as you are looking at a national brand mattress, ie Sealy, Sleepmaker, King Koil, Simmons, etc etc then you will be in safe hands.

In regards to Latex - yes they do sleep a little warmer then your standard spring mattresses, however, you better quality mattresses will breath far better and will be processed better. Stay well away from poor quality latex mattresses, ie Latex mattresses around the $1000 mark… You need to be looking at ones in excess of $2000 retail price, so on sale you could get one for around the $1600-$1700 mark.

If you are worried about heat and you have convinced yourself that it will be a problem then go the Flexgel. If you have the dollars I would not recommand anything else. Flexgel imo is 2nd to none in comfort, pressure relief, and no partner disturbance is just as good as latex. So if you have $3000 - $4000 to spend, buy a flexgel.

For bases, they are all the same except for Sealy. They still do a sprung base which just gives the mattress a bit of give and take (which makes your mattress a little softer too) all other manufactures do a platform type base which is just like putting it on your slat bed frame. The base is not a big issue, it is the mattress you want to get right.

I hope that helps.

• @CrocDundee: That is awesome explanation ^^ddd

I only remember the Crown Synergy being Crown brand, didn't see the Posture word on it.

Well, now after you describe it, it'll be between Flexgel or Cypress. I'd go to the store and lie on the flexgel longer.

With the latex mattress, do you think the more expensive one will have better air circulation as in less heat or similar?

Price wise, after the discount, the flexgel one is only around $200 above the Cypress one.
I'm prepared to spend around $3k for the bed because I'm going to be on it everyday for years.

In your opinion, between Flexgel and Cypress, which one has better quality in term of comfort technology?

• I would agree that you should choose between the flexgel or Cypress, and you are absolutely right, most people wouldn't think twice spending $2000 on a Plasma TV that they might watch a couple of hours a day, but don't want to spend anything like that when buying a mattress, which they sleep on for a 3rd of their life (or approx 8hrs per night)… So spending the extra to get a good night's sleep is well worth it…

If the price difference is only a few hundred dollars then I suggest choosing the one you feel most comfortable in. To compare comfort technology between the two mattresses is going back to the fruit analogy, one is a pear the other a banana, they both have things inside them that are really good for you.

You are looking at two mattresses that are top of the range, so comfort technology in both are fantastic. Once again I suggest you go for the one you feel more comfortable in. My opinion is go for the flexgel, but that is only because I think it covers all the areas you are concerned about, including heat. There will be no better quality latex out in the market then the Cypress mattress, so it will be the best you will ever find in minimizing the heat, it will also last you over 30yrs… I think you will find this very helpful for flexgel, http://flexgel.com.au/ Go to that site and it will explain all the benefits for you.

• Hi, I just take a look at this memory foam guide . Do you have something similar with those products on the site? Thanks.

• Hi Tuhan

Have been to our nearest Forty Winks store (on the Sunshine Coast) looking for a double bed mattress. As we both suffer sporadic back pain (myself - lower back, partner - shoulder injury and mid back pain + both side sleepers) I was happy to find an ICA approved pillow top mattress with a 10 year warranty. The salesperson highly recommended the following for our requirements and it was very comfortable. It was also the only decent mattress to fit into our tight budget.

King Coil Majesty Medium Firm Double Mattress
The best price he could offer was $499 + $55 delivery.

In your opinion is this is a fair price?

Your advice would be appreciated.

• Hi lunabyte - Sorry for the late reply…

Yes - $499 is a great price. You might be able to get away with a free pillow or two if you go in and say, "Ok I'll do it if you throw in a couple of pillows for us"… your chances are slim (because it is only 499 that you're spending) but the worst they can say is no, and you still get the mattress at a great price.. :)

I hope that helps..

• Are the sale still on? What's a good price for Simmons APA Backcare Ultimate King ensemble?

• Are the sale still on? What's a good price for Simmons APA Backcare Ultimate King ensemble?

• Hi Ixstr,

Nope the sale has finished now, sorry… For the Ultimate King Ensemble, a good price you should be able to get it for is, $3,500..

Hope that helps :)

• Hi. We bought a King Koil superior support v2 mattress in the king size in this sale. The queen in the shop felt perfect and apparently was a new mattress so not squashed out from people trying it. The king that we got delivered is way softer and does not provide support for either me or my partners backs. We have not had a proper sleep since we got the mattress (10 days ago). We went back to forty winks and they said we will need to keep sleeping on it until the rep comes up in 5 weeks to look at it. We cannot sleep on this mattress for another 5 weeks and it they will probably say that it has been used too much by that time for it to be returned. Have you got any suggestions. Do you know what our legal rights are. It is not that it needs to be broken in as it simply feels very different to the mattress we tried in the shop. Thanks.
