AmEx Statement Credit: 10% of Spend Back at Special Gift Cards (One Time Only, Up to $20 Back) @ American Express

3250

Another repeat of the previous deal.

This one was pretty hidden as it was near the bottom of my available offers that can be saved.

Only got it on the Primary Card and didn't turn up on any of the additional card holders.

Had to scroll to offer 49 of 50……. thanks OP, might not have seen it otherwise

    • +6

legit, for a moment, was disappointed that it's not there.

    • 54 of 56 here.

    • +1

Yep. A bit of a weird one this one. I swear they did it on purpose…

    • +3

Mine was last on the list

      • Ditto. Last few times it's been top of the list

      • Mine was right on the top.

    • +3

Mate i really appreciate your comment. I came back to say it is the first time i didn’t get the offer then read your comment. Turned out it is at the very bottom this time.

      • OP actually mentioned it too! I actually missed that bit as well 😀. Too excited and went looking as i perused the header 😀

      • Yep, I was shocked as well when I first saw it. Probably did it on purpose as the deal is so popular lol.

    • Yes, me too

    • Yes - past few months AMex Plat has new offers added to bottom lof list, whereas Plat Reserve and Rewards Advantage have new offers always added to top of list :-((

  • I dun think I ever got this offer on my supplementary cards, always on my main card only.

Recommend "Supermarket Slayer, can be used to get GC at both woolies and coles.

The Supermarket Slayer Card can be used at all major Grocery & Supermarket chains and retailers Australia-wide under MCC 5411 - Grocery.

    • I assume it works at Harris Farm as well?

      • +5

        It should (at least in-store).

Harris Farm should fall into the definition of a supermarket, plus someone reported in 2022 that their purchase was categorised as MCC 5411.

In terms of online purchases from the Harris Farm website, it will depend on the following:

        • Whether Harris Farm's online store is categorised as MCC 5411. (Some merchants - e.g. Spotlight - have one MCC assigned to their physical stores, and a different one assigned to their online store).

        • Whether Harris Farm's online store will accept prepaid Mastercard gift cards as a payment method. I have never used the Harris Farm online store, so I am not sure of the levels of security Harris Farm has on their online payment gateway. For example, they may require all Mastercards to support 3-D Secure, which would mean that Special gift cards would be rejected, as those - like all prepaid Mastercard gift cards - cannot support 3-D Secure.

        • +1

          Thanks Wookie!

    • I guess it works at Asian supermarkets too?

      • It depends on how the Asian supermarket has been categorised by their EFTPOS provider.

I would expect those to be categorised as MCC 5411, but some (e.g. Happigo Supermarket, Eastwood NSW) may be categorised as something else (e.g. MCC 5499: Miscellaneous Food Stores - Convenience Stores, Markets, Specialty Stores).

        • +1

          Ah I see, thanks!

        • +2

Just tried using at. Colonial Fresh, no dice!

          • @joeiwu: From memory Colonial Fresh uses MCC 5499, so a 7-11 GC might work.

      • I tried using it in Yuens Brisbane but it didn't work …

      • Works at Tong Li

    • +1

Are you sure Woolies and Coles included? I did search for these 5000 retailers, no results for Woolies and Coles.

      • +7

Yep, works at both! I've been using one of the Supermarket Slayer cards at both from the recent NAB promo.

        • +1

Can confirm it works at IGA also.

      • +3

        It should be included.

It sounds like you were looking at the Featured Retailers section of the Special website. That only displays the retailers that Special thinks will accept their gift cards, but it has always been empty for the Supermarket Slayer gift card. That section is not a definitive list of retailers using MCCs eligible on the gift card, because it would be a nightmare for Special to compile such a list. Special does not control the MCCs assigned to a merchant (as the MCC is assigned by their EFTPOS provider), and it something that can be changed by the EFTPOS provider at any time without warning. Imagine if Special said our gift card works at this small Asian grocer, but when you get there, it does not actually work, because that small Asian grocer the day before had their MCC changed to something other than MCC 5411 and Special had no idea about this…

        • +4

what a lousy business concept. Sell people gift cards that are not clear where it can be used.

    • Would the Woolies GC one work for Harris Farm too?

      • Special doesn't sell Woolies GC anymore. You need to buy the Supermarket Slayer and it should work at Harris Farm.

      • +1

        No.

The Woolworths Special gift card is a Special brand card that is actually restricted to Woolworths (in-store), Woolworths Metro (in-store) and Woolworths Online. Special most likely applies this restriction by checking EFTPOS terminal identifiers reported by the EFTPOS terminal when you attempt a payment; if Special does not recognise the EFTPOS terminal, it should decline the transaction.

On the other hand, the Special Supermarket Slayer gift card is a Special category card that is restricted to merchants using MCC 5411. That should include Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, IGA1 and Harris Farm.

        1. IGA stores selling both liquor and groceries in the same store through the same checkout may not actually use an MCC other than 5411 (e.g. 5921, 5499). Considering IGA stores are independently operated, the MCC assigned to a given IGA will depend on how that its EFTPOS terminal provider determined the MCC.

I can’t find the card when i searched “supermarket slayer” or either word on its own. Even the woolies card disappeared. Are you sure it is still there?
Never mind.. found it on the home page. Just couldn’t find it by searching

      • +2

Yeah it won't come up on search. Their websites been broken for ages

  • +1

    Damn right on the bottom

    • +1

Yes, literally right at the bottom!

  • I am selecting $200 value but its changing to $50 at checkout?

    • +1

Yep, same here! Be careful peeps, wait until its fixed. One time use. I am getting customised $200 slayer

    • Mine changed to 250 at checkout (with app).
      Worked fine in browser

      • I was also able to purchase through website

    • +1

The app has issues, customised values don't seem to work and it just goes back to the previously selected fixed value.

  • thanks op, got it on my charge card

  • +1

Only got it on 1 card

    • Same, didn't get it on my other card.

  • Got it on my Explorer card, thanks OP!

  • +1

Every time I try buy using my Amex it always says Card Declined, definitely available funds- has anyone else had issues?

    • using the four digit CCV?

    • Same problem. Apple Pay and enter details manually both failing. Can’t redeem this offer :(

    • Same here :(

edit: I just tried again, but this time instead of my custom email address i sent the gift card to a gmail address, and created a new account using my apple id sign in.
Maybe try a different login and see if that will work?

    • I had the same issue before, just create a new account and the issue will be fixed. all your cards will work when you using your new account.

  • Added, thanks for the pointer that it is right at the bottom…. I am out of the country for next few weeks. Since I have it added I should be fine to just leave it there and use it once back I assume ?

    • Yep, as long as it’s before expiry date!

  • +1

Worked fine for me, redeeming it on the phone at 200

  • Looks like they don’t sell big w gift card anymore. That’s how I bought the Amazon gc. Any other way to get Amazon gc work around?

  • still chasing my offer credit from the last of this offer in July….

    • +1

check your statement. I noticed they backdated the payment to the day I bought the gift card.

  • Any way to buy these without having to create an account? I'm overseas atm and it looks like the website is blocking access to account creation/logging in with socials :(

    • +1

Use a VPN, or residential proxy

      • Yup I did, tried UrbanVPN and ExpressVPN with no luck 😶

  • Supermarket slayer doesn't exist based on my search

    • +1

It's featured on the front page.

  • -2

Without ability to convert to Amazon this is so dud

    • Buy petrol station card and then go to Ampol or EG and convert physically to Amazon 😏

      • +1

When you say Ampol, do you mean Ampol Foodary? If so, it looks like it is no longer possible to do that. It has also been a while since I have seen an Ampol Foodary with Amazon gift cards on their gift card racks.

EG Ampol should be fine, assuming they actually still sell Amazon gift cards. Shell Reddy Express, United Petroleum, OTR and bp should also be fine. However, considering Amazon gift cards seem to have been removed from sale from Coles, ALDI, BIG W and giftcards.com.au this year, it would not surprise me if they soon also disappear from service stations…

        • I believe Ampol Foodary on Blackburn Road in Victoria still had them last time I checked (maybe a couple of months ago).

    • 10% off groceries, pubs, petrol, restaurants - how is that "so dud"??

  • Using two Amex cards with offers, but under the same Special account should work, yeah?

    • +1

I have done this in the past and had no issue with the cashback.

  • +2

Tech head is no longer works to pay Synergy bill anymore. No Big W gc anymore too

    • Has Synergy changed their payment system or this likely to affect All utilities ?

      • I’m with agl, I just add the tech head card to PayPal and use the Pay via PayPal option on AGL. Worked twice previously.

        • Let us know if you confirm this. I tried paying AGL directly with one recently and it didn't work.

          • +1

@gizzard: not working for Sydney waters nor AGL, tried both directly and via paypal

      • No idea

  • Thanks for pointing out it was not at the top. Mine was dead last after all the crappy % cashback spends.

    • +1

Yep, so weird right, I feel like it was purposeful lol.

  • thanks. got it

  • After buying a tech head and panicking… There is a way to buy Amazon cards (albeit a little credit left on the card .. better than nothing …) - not sure if I want to share and special close the loop hole… But can't leave my ozb brethren hanging…. You do need to have access to a certain entertaining style club to buy Amazon cards.

  • How to verify the card? It's sitting in my apple wallet. Normally it asks for a sms or email to send code. I'm only getting option verify with special which takes me to the app and nothing happens.

    • Any way to get it verified with email or sms or only through the special app?

      • Through the Special app. There's about six processes to finally get it into your Google/Apple/Samsung Pay!

      • I've struggled with it in the past. Don't add the card via SGC app. If you have then remove the card. Copy the card details from spend online - card#, expiry, cvv and enter it manually in your wallet. It will ask to verify the card via text/email.

        • Yes I’ve also tried that too but when it comes to the verification it still wants to go through special.

My Apple wallet got corrupted when I transferred everything from my iPhone 13 to 16 last year. Prepaid Visa cards always fail verification. I’ve had to purchase an android phone to be able to use most of my cards via tap and go.

Even my iPhone 13 which was working before the transfer has the same exact issue. 2 worthless iPhones if you can’t use a feature like the digital wallet. Spent hours with Apple, gift card retailer/s and gift card issuing bank/s and no one has been able to resolve the issue.

Mastercards work on my Apple wallet. This is a Mastercard but there’s the verification issue with this one.

  • +1

I wasn’t able to complete a purchase from Special using any of my cards, AMEX, NAB, and Citi.

    • It might be your email address. Sign up using a different one, and try not to use anything like the Gmail filters.

      • Thanks rith. Tried that when NAB has the offer, new email address and new mobile number, still could not complete the order.

  • Can anyone please confirm that the Supermarket Slayer cards work in Woolworth and Coles. I got no results from the search box. Thanks

    • Take it work a grain of salt, all the merchants listed here with MCC 5411.

    • +1

      Definitely work in Woolies

    • +2

just used it in woolies 30m ago.

  • Kept having issues buying the Woolworths one via app (still shows there, but not on website). Figured they've just not updated app.

Did 2 orders (had it on 2 cards) for Slayer card on website and both worked fine

    Probably more flexible anyway :)

  • +1

Does Tech Head still work for utility?

It was explained before why it worked, not sure if they closed the loop hole.

    • +1

No longer works for me for Origin

      • thanks for sharing, i was hoping to use this for the utility

    • Didn't work for me at AGL but a post above indicates that it might still work via PayPal.

      • Would try if can fall back to Amazon, but that's also no go, don't have things to buy from participating Tech Head retailers at the moment.

    • Anyone know if Tech Head works for buying gift cards from Officeworks in store?
