Suggest 144hz monitor

Currently looking for a 'relatively cheap' 144hz monitor, cheapest I have found is 24" Kogan for $259 (https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-24-led-144hz-gaming-frees…)

Any suggestions or a particular brand would be great, thanks.

I'm using a korean X-Star DP2414LED. My thoughts on it

The Kogan one doesn't have any bad reviews though it's noted it's not exactly a great monitor either.

  • That's a Freesync monitor so I'm assuming you have an AMD card? If you have an Nvidia GPU it's definitely worth paying the extra for a G-sync model in a high refresh rate monitor.

    • Didnt know that but I have the ATI Radeon HD 5700

      • That card is too old to support freesync. Freeysnc was introduced in 2014 and you need the HD7000 series and later

… and the second issue is, while you can play older games like Counter Strike on a 5000 series GPU relatively well, it struggles to play newer games at framerates high enough to justify owning a 144hz monitor.

        Isn't time for an upgrade?

        • Definetly is, this was my first computer build back in 2011 or around then and has served me well ever since have never upgraded any part of it except I think I actually did change what I originally got and got that 5700 a couple years later. The only game I play is dota 2 and maybe some old WoW versions. This thread has probably put upgrading my GPU first before a monitor now though; expect to see a 'what GPU should I get' thread in the near future….

  • Not exactly cheap but the Acer Predator XB271HU (IPS, 144hz, GSYNC) is the best monitor I've used, it will be futureproof for years. Usually $1000 brand new, but occasionally you can find a used one for $600-$700.
