So basically the monitors are rejected/factory second panels?

You can read the full story behind it, plus discuss it, on WP

I have this monitor. To say the least about it:

      1. 144hz is a great upgrade from bog standard 60hz. I'm driving it with a GTX 1060 right now, and games look very fluid with it. You'll need a VERY powerful GPU to get modern games to run at more than 120FPS though, something like a GTX1070 would be preferable.

      2. Colours are not any worse than a budget TN monitor, like BenQ G2420HD. It is very bad out of the box and you will need to dig into the menus (which is initially, korean!) and configure / calibrate. The viewing angles are wide — which is fine, vertical angles are also average. It is a TN panel though so do not expect amazing sRGB coverage.

      3. The stand is very average. There is a little bit of tilt adjust, but no height adjust. Well, neither does my BenQ… but the stand is pretty basic so don't get too rough with it.

      4. The OSD buttons are on the back of the monitor, retarded placement. Speaking of buttons, it has a mode switch button which can allow you to switch between two profiles of your choice, plus a Crosshair button which overlays a big honkin' yellow or red crosshair onto the middle of the display. Pretty handy for some FPS games actually.

      • Are these even worth getting anymore now that you can get branded 144hz monitors with a local warranty for not much more?

The cheapest one on the market is the AOC G2460PF, it is $415 dollars from PCCG. Is it 'not much more?' It's almost two times more.

In either case, when buying any kind of PC gear via ebay there is a risk of buying a dud online and this should be attempted if you feel that you need to squeeze maximum value out of your purchase. You can read all the ebay feedback and also search it on Reddit for user comments.

Otherwise if you want peace of mind, just buy the AOC locally.

  • Any good wifi router deals? No modem needed

Bought the X-Star 24" DP2414 from dreamseller a month ago. I've had no issues with it other than the korean menus and highly recommend it for fps gaming. I've successfully overclocked mine to 195hz for extra smooth action. Others have had success with overclocking as well:
    http://www.overclock.net/t/1574678/x-star-dp2414led-144hz-1m…

    • Interesting, it's overclockable… I had read reports that any Korean monitors with an HDMI port were incapable of overclocking (even if you plug it in via DVI). Guess that's no longer the case.

      • Eh that hasn't been the case for a long time …

  • Thx Scrimshaw. Snapped the TP-Link router up today. Delivery Friday.
