Mass Effect Andromeda (XB1, PS4 or PC) for $59 after Trading in Any XB1, PS4 or Switch Game @ EB Games

160

There's a promo for Mass Effect Andromeda in that it can be purchased for $59 after trading in any single Xbox One, PS4 or Nintendo Switch game. When I inquired in store, the cashier (coincidentally the store manager) told me any game could be traded in as long as it's in re-saleable condition - defined by the inclusion of the unscratched disc in its original case.

Below I've listed a few places that sell the cheapest game (that's easily accessible) for you to trade in for the promo:

Option 1

A pre-owned copy of Skylanders Swap Force with the portal (Xbox One and PS4) go for $8 at EB themselves - which is cheapest Xbox One/PS4 game to use for the promo.

$8 + $59 = $67

Option 2

Battle Worlds: Kronos and Super Dungeon Bros. both go for $9 each at JB Hi-Fi. While they are both clearance titles, they are (arguably) the least-desired games on the shelves so there should be enough.

$9 + $59 = $68

Not bad, jb has it at $69 if you want less fuss.

    • True, but it'll only be at that price for release day only, then it'll go for $79 afterwards.

At least with this one promo is that it could be valid after release day.

who would be stupid enough to trade in a Switch game for such a small discount lol

    • +1

Well, Skylanders Imaginators has to go somewhere.

But yes, it is an odd choice to include that.

      • I guess there will always be one stupid enough to do that and to have bought Skylanders Imaginators on Switch in the first place

    • Used game sales are a huge margin business (at least based on Gamestop in the US). There are a lot of schmucks that haven't heard of eBay / Gumtree.

  • does someone have to of played the first 3 to enjoy this one?

    • +2

Nope, it's a new series and unrelated to the old one asides from being set in the same universe. I do highly recommend playing the first three though. The gameplay gets better as they go, though the story gets worse. But ME1 is still awesome.

Ok thanks ill pick it up looks awesome.
Just wasn't sure if i should as i wanted to play the first three first but haven't gotten around to it yet.

  • Not much point for PC; it's $63.64 ($48 USD) at GreenManGaming at the moment.

Cheaper at JB for pc $59

$58.99 here just for the key.(cheaper if you use the 5% off code from their facebook page.)

      • JB HiFi is definitely better. Not sure I trust CDKeys enough. Personally I consider GMG a lot more trustworthy.

Edit: Technically JB HiFi is $62.50 given it's only available for delivery, with $3.50 delivery cost. Still slightly cheaper, although I think I'd prefer buying digitally; should be able to pre-load it and not wait for delivery to arrive.

        • There's no physical disc even if you buy the box from a brick'n'mortar store (boo!) so going the GMG preorder means you'll benefit from the earlier US release date.

However remember that if you're not paying directly in USD then on top of the currency conversion from AUD on the day that GMG take the payment you're also going to get hit by what ever fee for that your provider charges (1% fot paypal from bank, higher via credit card). So ultimately a couple days delay might turn out to be significantly cheaper if the exchange rate tanks in the next week.

Interestingly, it turns out that even though we get the usual Australia tax by ordering the base and deluxe versions through Origin with an Aussie ip address, we actually get the super deluxe package — which is 4 and a half months of weekly multiplayer boosts on top of the deluxe — for several USD less.

        • @MisterAndersen:

So is this confirmed that there is no physical media?

  • +2

Not too sure on the general consensus of GMG, I've had no issues with them.
The game is at most $49.99 there. (all though not a physical copy) still a bit cheaper and you don't have to trade in anything

    Also, 58.99 at cdkeys http://www.cdkeys.com/pc/games/mass-effect-andromeda-pc-orig…

  • man i wish i still have my driveclub copy, trade it for $4 or 5 can't really remember lol

    • My NBA2k15 was traded in for 2 dollars.

  • When does this start and end?

    • +1

If you mean the game, it set between 2 and 3 when they leave earth.

      • lol, thanks but i meant the offer.

        • I'm hoping it will still be going when I get back from holidays next week.

Shame they've taken the gritty scifi look of the originals and turned into some kind of Hannah Barbara saturday morning cartoon style. Not sure what to make off it, can only speculate the plot and writing will be tailored to a much younger demographic now also.

    • It does not need to be gritty anymore….as it not about the genocide of the Galaxy like the originals, rather about exploration and colonisation of a new system.

I don't think the calculation is like that. The trade-in game gets the credit that can be used to offset the Mass Effect. It's not giving up a game to get $59 price.

    • Oh yeah, almost forgot about that. Then again, some games are worth $0.50-$1.00 - low enough to almost give up the game entirely.

I went there today for the deal. Calculation is different to the previous deals now. Any trade-in games' value lower than $20 will be treated as $20 to against RRP - $79 so you get $59 for ME:A. If the trad-in value more than $20. The surplus brings the $59 down further. If you get bonus (calculated based on $20) from trad-in because of your EB member status, it's treated as surplus. My example is:

Shadow of Mordor: GOTY. Trade-in value: $11.00. Under $20, so treated as $20.
My membership status grants me 15% trade in value, so 15%x$20=$3
Total credit to use for ME $23.
        RRP ME: $79 - $23 = $56

If no membership & trade in lower than $20 then:
        $79-$20=$59.

As I had previous trade in credits, $36, I paid $20 eventually.

FYI, staff said I should not get $3 but system tells him I should so I got $3.

Based on above, the cheapest game you paid & traded in, the better value you get. OP is absolutely right if the game trade in value < $20. However, this doesn't apply to trade in value > $20.

        Hope above helps.

  • Just got confirmation from my local EB: you can trade in literally any PS4, XONE or Switch game no matter what game it is. And with preorder you got some bonus armors and stuffs.

  • So it's $69 with no trade at JB on PS4/XB1 so this is only useful to flip your old sports titles imo, to bump it up from $0.50 to $10.00

  • Anyone know if this is still available? I can't see reference to it on the EB games website?

    • FYI I did just use the deal at EB Cockburn Central if anyone is interested… they still had a poster up for it.
