    Is that 27" price of $849 correct? It's $755 on ebay, after 20% off it's $604.

    • You're right. I'd mixed up the listing, fixed. Thanks!

    • +2

really? i'm seeing 1049 from the link.. how odd

      • Same, would've snapped it up at $600 :(

      • You are right now, but it was definitely $755 beforehand, and had sold 13 with 3 available. The updated listing shows 20 sold. Another case of jacking up the prices I guess :(

          That was the freesync version.

  • What is QHD?

    • +1

QHD means 2560x1440 pixels in resolution.

    • +1

      1440p

    • So UHD is better than QHD (for computer monitor)?

      • UHD (3840x2160)
        QHD (2560x1440)

        • It's been a while, but I'm in need of another screen now. Last one was so long ago it had no HDMI socket.

So far I found these 28" UHD units, all seem good value to me:

          AOC U2879VF w freesync
          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/332095230162 $470.40, or
          the Acer XB280HK w G-sync and 5-port USB hub
          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331450897270 $519.20, or
          Samsung U28E850R w freesync, 3 port USB hub, PiP and PBP, and a decent stand;
          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/261359318341 $519.20

None are IPS though- uses more power and I don't poke at my screen much, leaves too many fingerprints.

Any idea how these monitors work at different resolutions? IIRC screens work well at many resolutions, but are not so good at some.

          If you are looking for IPS, this smaller LG 27UD58-B seems cheap;
          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/231272447306 $463.20

I'm looking for the largest screen I can get. The AOC U3277PWQU above is interesting, as was the 43 Phillips a little while back. Most important to me is that it performs at 2560x1600 (and won't use it for gaming)- so I could save and get this 32" QHD one: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/232251115800 $367.20

  • Ok thanks

  • What the f u c k happened with the 27" they jacked the price up midway through the sale??

    • The price is the same since the original post. 1049*0.8=839.2

What is this monitor like compared to this other one apart from the 144hz?

I am looking at getting the Acer XB271HU although the lower price of the AOC AG271QG is tempting. The Asus PG278Q is supposedly the same panel as the XB271HU but significantly more expensive. From what I have read up on, all of these monitors may have a 50% chance of having issues with above average back light bleed. All IPS monitors could have issues with dead pixels, IPS glow, 'poor' uniformity (up to 19% for at least one of these models). For a saving of only $60 for the AOC, I would rather buy local in case I need to exchange. I have no particular reason to go for the Acer, but I am avoiding the Asus due to price.

And also hiding purchase from finance minister. (No postie knocking on the door!)

      • yeh im looking at them as well and in the same boat price wise.
hence why i asked the price difference.
i would agree as well with the $60 price difference, i can just go to pccasegear which is about 10mins from my house.

what if my gpu cant handle the 165hz?

        • I ended up getting the XB271HU from Futu Online. That was a $100 difference compared to local shops.
If your GPU cant consistently push out 165FPS, activate GSYNC capped below VSYNC FPS. If you are constantly getting over 165FPS, then use ULMB based on your personal preference.
I mostly play CSGO which I expect to get around 160FPS using a GTX970 at 1440p max settings. This was my main concern getting a 1440p since I get almost 300FPS on my 1080p 60hz monitor right now. I will have to experiment using GSYNC or not for CSGO. The XB271HU native is 144hz which can overclock to 165hz. I read that overclocking may add input lag among other things.
If I play more demanding titles, then I would have to lower the settings for 1440p or get a new video card. Maybe when the GTX2070/2080 is out.

        • @alli0094:
Where is the link for the one you got?
I would be happy running some games on lower settings, I'm sure it would still look better anyway!!
But yeh, I have the 970 as well so looks like we will have the same setup although I play overwatch, still not that demanding either so will be fine.

        • @alli0094:
          http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/AOC-AGON-AG271QG-27-WQHD-G-SYNC-165…

Do you know why this one is cheaper?
Only difference I can see is the 4ms vs 5ms

        • @Hirolol: PLE is not part of the 20% off deal so they didn't jack up their normal price up. I think 5ms is a typo, it should be 4ms. Static ice has the AG271QG at mostly $899.
The XB271HU I bought, which arrived today is here; http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Acer-Predator-XB1-XB271HU-27-LED-…

        • @alli0094: Received today. MFG date December 2016. What a beautiful specimen. No dead pixels. Only the faintest IPS glow in the bottom right corner at 100 brightness setting which I would not even noticed if I was not looking for it.

        • @alli0094:
          Awesome mate, I'm so jelly!!!
          what is ips glow?
Does it happen on lower Hz monitors?

        • @Hirolol: IPS glow happens on IPS monitors only. There is just a glow from the back light of the monitor leaking through on the edges of the monitor, particularly noticeable when the screen is dark. It can happen when the panel is not perfectly flat, usually occurring when the layers of the monitor are clamped together. It is just how the technology is so if you go for an IPS monitor it is just something you will need to deal with. Many people are not bothered by it and also most people do not use 100% brightness.

        • @alli0094:
          I'm worried now.
Maybe I should get it from my local computer store.
Would work out $100 more but peace of mind if I need to take it back.

        • @Hirolol: I risked it and got lucky. For $100 I was willing to deal with the replacement hassle. For $60 I was not willing. For XB271HU, seems like monitors manufactured after August 2016 have a much better chance of not having issues. I am getting consistent 250FPS on CSGO with a few dips to 160FPS at 1440p. With 1080p I was getting 300FPS with a few dips to 220FPS. I should have previously mentioned I have a GB GTX970 G1. It is about 5% faster than normal 970s. I have noticed that the card is running hotter than previously though, around 70degC while in game, compared to maybe 65degC. It just means a closed room might be 1-2deg hotter after a couple of hours.
