Long-time follower. First time poster.

Not advertised but Charles Darwin University is currently offering Free CERT IV in Mental Health for people from NT working in the industry. All study is conducted online. Don't know if it's only for Territorians but I just received my first 5 units free of charge. Valid until 31 Mar 17 but must finish the course by 31 Mar 18 then the fees come in for the remaining Units that need to be completed. Saving around $2500.

UPDATE 2: Email stating fees are waived. http://imgur.com/a/tCGgb

UPDATE 16 March

We have been informed that this course is only available for people that live in the NT and currently working in the industry. Please do not call if you do not fulfill these requirements.

Oops, I'm not associated! I checked the box by mistake - I'm new to OzBargain. :(

I love this! So many times I've nearly clicked associated! Trust me it's easy to do. Welcome!

        • In future, please just hit the report link and we can fix it up.

        • @neil:

Thank you! Sorry for the trouble.

Looking to confirm is it only NT or not as some of the above comments are contradictory, also if its not then what to you choose for location option? & the start date option?

    • I would like to know this also. I tried calling but their closed now.

      • NT Only.

        You are Sicilian.

      • You are in the 50s

They won't, because this one doesn't have band 28.

  • What did people put up for course location?

  • +1

Oh, I was looking at this more from the point of view "Oh something for free I can just take"…..rather than work my ass off for it…. :P

  • Gives a whole new meaning to being certified…

Just ordered 6 of these for Christmas

  • so do you need to live in NT or what??

    • NT Only.

  • Good to see course fees getting cheaper for a change rather than more expensive.

I wonder how they arrange the placement for students outside NT. Be warned that a 100 hour placement is a mandatory component of this course AFAIK.

thanks op, will pass this deal onto my ex-wife

  • Can I call myself Dr. after I graduate? Would come in handy when filling out forms or dating.. "So what do you do.. I have been certified as a Doctor"…

    • Very likely to be a long term unemployed person who kept themselves busy for a while getting a certificate that isn't actually necessary to find work in the field (a guitar teacher got a job working with clients and AFAIK has not actually got a Cert IV in Mental Health).

    • There used to be laws in Australia about falsely calling yourself a doctor… (interesting read here) but no, a Cert IV doesn't entitle you to call yourself a doctor. A doctor is the highest academic title and is also used by medical practitioners, who may or may not have earned a doctoral qualification.

Came in with confirmation via email too.

"Good morning and thank you for your enquiry,

Please note that the course, Certificate IV in Mental Health (CHC43315), is only being offered to residents of the Northern Territory. The Northern Territory Government is subsidising the course for NT Residents only up until 31 March 2017, within which, the course is required to be completed by 31 March 2018.

    Kind Regards

    Team at Community Services

    Charles Darwin University "

So for anyone in NT, definitely grab it while you can.

  • So, do we just make up a NT Address & business???

Sounds a bit stupid, since there is no verification!

    • There's a work placement involved. CDU gives you a list of approved Mental Health Providers. and pretty sure it will be all Darwin based. I thinks its 80hrs worth.
