Still boycotting for their support of Trump

    • +3

Do you actually have any idea what you are talking about?
They supported his stance on free trade, which was the exact same stance as Hillary and Bernie, so doesn't matter who won, they would have said the same thing. As they are one of the last major footwear companies that still makes some of their shoes in the US, the free trade deals was causing them to close those factories, with the changes that Trump, Hillary and Bernie all wanted it would have allowed them to keep making shoes in the US.

      • In more detail:

Hillary and Bernie had the same stance on the TPP, so they had 3 choices but decided to go with Trump.

They also (supposedly) made a $400000 USD contribution to his campaign AND publicly endorsed his campaign.

I'm under the impression they were supporting Trump for more reasons than just his stance on the TPP, which is why I'm boycotting them.

@Flyingmoo: that only addresses the fallout from the Tweet.

Hard to believe they aren't supporting Trump with this: New Balance founder gave nearly $400,000 to Trump

        • +2

That's an easy one, Serapis. The Democrat (Obama) administration was fully supportive of the TPP, so this company chose to support the Republicans, who were against it.

Hillary flip-flopped on it, initially continuing the pro-TPP Obama policy but then becoming non-committal, when her campaign ran focus groups that showed popular opposition to the TPP. This meant that she could have easily gone back again, had the public opinion changed.

Bernie was a bit of sideshow, despite putting up a good fight, and didn't get the nomination. Moreover, as an old school US-based manufacturer, there's no way they could have supported his populist anti-business agenda and high taxes. The big kerfuffle about their support for Trump didn't happen until long after Hillary was nominated.

        • @elektron:
Thanks for posting this way rather than starting on the offence.

I agree with your explanation but this is where I believe inaction would have been better than action.

My concerns with Trump are mainly to do with his lack of regard for the judicial system (working in the legal sector myself).I understand they wanted the block the TPP but going out of their way to actively support him and hiding behind the TPP as the reason is ethically questionable. I would have preferred if they continued to oppose TPP but did not directly endorse any of the candidates.

I don't think it's right to support a company that is single minded in this way. Not going to entertain the possibility of any money going towards a Kanye 2020 campaign if it just so happens that he becomes a presidential candidate and proposes a policy favourable to NB…

  • any deals?

  • GC Harbour Town…. no 247's at all.

I've picked up some great bargains at these in the past, quality running shoes for around $40 etc. Hopefully there will be some decent stock this time.

  • I went to Auburn for soccer boots for the kids. None whatsoever…

    • Just for kids? I picked up a pair of Furon Pro's on Saturday for $60 - wonder if they put the price back up for this deal.

      • Was there many boots in stock that day? I asked and they said there were no kids boots left at all. I tried calling but they didn't answer because of the sale. Shame, wasted 30 mins and petrol getting there.

  • Just compared the website with in store… Zante v2 $100 online … $78 in store…. Back in school my teacher told me that would be $60… damn such bad teacher

Thanks. Been to Birkenhead Point today. Most stock have already been reduced by 40-60% already. e.g $50 shirts are going for $20, some $25 and same $30. Shoes are about 30% off RRP, tracks about 25% off, running shorts are about 30% off as well. There's a rack for female shirts, all about 60% off (~$20ish).

Slap on another 40% from this deal and it's a bargain. I've gotten a bunch of $6 workout singlets, very satisfied.

  • Alexandria has a good amount of size8-11 in stability models 860 and 1060.

Got a paid of 1060 today for $102.50

  • Smith Street, Collingwood has a fair bit of stock, got myself some runners and two pairs for my son - total $78. Lot's of womens stuff too.

  • anyone know if there's much left in moorabin?

    • +1

Yeah, if your after shoes…there is plenty of sizes, clothing wise not so much. I pretty much bought all the M for male hoodies only S and XXL were left

      • cheers bud.

    • If not too late I'm there now… they must have restocked. A lot more than I was expecting…

Thanks OP. Got a pair of runners, thought $70 down from $240 RRP according to box was good then found it there was another 40% off at the till bringing it down to $42. :D Maybe it was only worth $70 all along, but still, $42 is good.
