Looks like a crab or lobster.

    • That's the medium size weber.

      • Except the size is there any difference?

        • +1

Not that I know of. The family size comes with a stand and has two burners rather than one which makes it easier to fine tune what temp you want to cook at.

        • The Baby Q doesn't have the fold-out side tables and the medium one doesn't come with a stand. But you can buy each of these separately if wanted.

Thanks, been waiting for a sale on webers

  • Any NG variant on sale?

    • You won't find an NG unless the store is a Weber Specialist. GG's aren't and rarely are they ever on sale.

  • Anyone have any experience with these? Apparently with these you need to cook with the lid always down, which is steering me a bit more towards a Ziegler & Brown. The Ziegler seem to be consistently highly rated, But they are even more expensive..
I know its probably not a big deal but just seems to be a strange nuance.

Reason why you have to cook with the lid down is because the burner inside is so small.

Webber's are more a crappy gas oven then a BBQ

      • +2

Maybe back in the day with the big black kettle things but these are the bomb. Had one of the 200s for about five years. Best BBQ I've had cooking both with lid on for roasts etc or lid off for chops snags

        • Guess everyone is different.

I also had one of those a few years back but gave it to the MIL after only a couple of uses.

Nothing really wrong with it if you're just looking for something for outdoor cooking but have to agree with the poster above with the negs that results are not a lot different to using the kitchen oven.

Personal preference plays a strong part here but I'd prefer one of the Weber charcoal bbq's for the smokey flavour that you just don't get from the gas cooker range. The downside of course is that they need a bit more work in prep and cleaning than the gas models.

Fair to say just pros and cons?

Weber's (note - one b) are actually a very good cooking appliance.

Due to the shape, when you cook with the lid down, you get a good convection going on. This leads to much more efficient BBQing or cooking. The burners are able to be smaller because of this. If you attempt to cook with the lid up, you are going to be disappointed with the performance - it's like trying to cook in your oven with the door open.

I own the mid size Weber Q - however I payed extra for the premium model - it's got a higher dome (so you can cook larger roasts), a temperature gauge inbuild in the lid (so you can tell when it's up to temperature) and a piezo ignition.

I've cooked some of the best roast dinners (chooks, porks shoulders, etc) I have ever cooked on it. Additionally, they cook faster than in the electric oven in my kitchen and come out much more tender and juicier.

As an added bonus, I've got a couple of smoker boxes. Now while I understand you can't get the true 'low and slow' smoker experience on a Weber Q, by adding some smoking chips into the boxes, you can add a wide range of flavours to your meats that you can't do in your kitchen oven - or on a grill with the lid up.

If I had one potential criticism about the Weber Baby Q it would be that a baby Q might be a bit small for an everyday grill but would be great as a portable unit for camping, etc.

All in all, if you are looking for a great gas grill or BBQ, you can't go wrong with a Weber Q.

Lol no idea, use a Weber then comment

    • I have one of these, I dont cook with the lid down. However I do leave the lid down for 5-10 mins to heat up the plates for searing.
Overall a great little bbq that can be cleaned and transported very easily.

      • You'll use a lot less gas if you cook with the lid down.

I cook snags/burgers/chicken wings etc all the time in mine with the lid up. Only time i close the lid is if I've got a whole roast on the go.

I love mine… I've got a Q200 which I purchased 5 years ago and use it all the time with the lid down. I can't fault it

Had one since Xmas, and I think it's great. I'm not s huge BBQ person, so I just wanted a dead simple one for me and the gf that was easy to transport around. We had a second hand 4(?) burner bbq prior to the Weber, and it was just a pita to use, clean and move. So for us, the baby q is pretty much perfect.

Only issue I've had is that the flame tends to get blown out relatively easily by wind, due to the openings in the side acting as a bit of a wind tunnel. Though it seems to get more resistant as it heats up, so you just need to mind it for a few minutes. This could also just be a common problem with BBQs in general, I'm not sure.

  • Weber's are also very easy to clean. Just leave the mess on. Then, next time heat the BBQ up for 10 mins, use the copper scrub and the mess just glides off.

  • Can anyone comment on whether spending more on getting the Premium model (q1200au) model is worth it for the higher lid?
I don't do roasts often but time to time it'll be a lamb shoulder or some roast pork. Does the this model have enough room for these? How about roasting chickens?
Otherwise I'll just get this one, great price at 240$, and I think the premium model is only available at certain stores.

Brings back memories of the eBay BBQ deal a few years ago. Good times.

Checkout bunnings for a simple folding table that works really well with this(~$30)

    • +1

Haha that is exactly what I did. I thought $150 for a stand was a bit much.

    • +1

I was considering that as well but found that the white table was pretty ugly and far too small.

Went to Kmart instead and got a slightly larger desk so that there is room for all the BBQ utensils and food, etc.

says its for indoor use only, but that wood is treated and stained so I think it should last!

My missus won one of these in a competition and seeing as we already have the next size up, I offered to take it up to my parents holiday house and leave it there. While there I fired it up a couple times and was so impressed by its performance that I decided to bring it back home. 10/10 will Indian give again if I ever win a product this good again.

    Thanks very much!

I was planning to get the 2200, but for this price, I couldn't go past the 2000.

Also picked up a cover and stand to complete the package.

  • I just picked up family Weber q for $565.
    Great deal
