With the release of the 1080 Ti, the MSRP of the 1080 GTX has lowered by ~$100 USD and Amazon US has reflected this price update.

I imagine local retailers will follow this more aggressively in the coming weeks, but still this is cheaper than any listing on staticice.

There are other brands and models available for comparable pricing (including harder to get models in Aus).

  • Still prefer local @$699
    http://www.umart.com.au/newsite/goods.php?id=35926

Bought from them @$715, no complains so far

  • Just goes to show how much markup there is on them when they were $1k+, if they can sell them for $680 and still make a profit.

    • i dont think so, its more of a rebate from the manufacturer to the reseller to sell the 1080s for cheaper.

      • +1

Well the markup was there somewhere, doesn't matter if it from the manufacturer to the reseller or the reseller to the consumer.

  • What u think 50% is a big markup? Check out iPhone, 300%+

    • Sure, for the company with the fruit logo, definitely not the retailer.

    • Why wouldn't they charge what people will pay?

    • Do you think when you buy a phone you are just paying for the parts? You have to take into account the millions spent on R&D.

      • That doesn't explain why there's such value to be found in phones with other OS like Android.
"When you buy a device with fruit on it 🍏, you have to pay threefold to contribute to the billions that make them one of the most profitable corporations in the world"

        • Not sure what you mean, phones like the HTC U Ultra can cost more than an iPhone.

        • It's a case of perceived value. Consumers will happily pay what they think the product is worth, regardless of if there is a 300% markup for "fruit products" or not

  • +3

    Damn for a second I thought I saw 500AUD.

  • Problem is warranty.

    • I don't know how it is dealing with Amazon or with Gigabyte boards. There are some similarly priced EVGA boards which come with an international warranty/RMA process which might be worth looking at.

  • It shows at 702 AUD for me.

    Order Summary
    Items: AUD 680.30
    Shipping & handling: AUD 22.29
    Total before tax: AUD 702.59
Estimated tax to be collected: AUD 0.00
    Order total: AUD 702.59

    • To get a decent price, you need to buy it in USD and pay with a card that has 0% foreign transaction fee (Bankwest Zero Platinum, Citibank Plus, etc. If you buy it in AUD, Amazon gives you a bad exchange rate, charging you a few points.

Also, the prices have gotten a bit worse since our exchange rate has changed.
