shame these things are only for the first year… then you go back to paying 20-25 dollars a year after that.

Nope, only thing is you have to let it expire, then sign up at another provider - only thing is if you let it expire its free for anyone to grab it, so you have to hope no one does through the change over.
Why do you have to let it expire? There's been a domain transfer mechanism in place for .com etc. for a very long time.
@retiredfeline: How much it costs to transfer is up to the registrar you're transferring to. In general, transfers cost the same as a year of registration at most registrars, and a price of around $10 USD per year is about standard amongst cheaper registrars. If you can find a cheap promo like this somewhere else before your registration expires then you could most likely transfer there.

It's good but my bank blocked my card after purchasing it. So be warned you might be without your card for a little while!
unable to change my DNS registration. Seems like they have also locked the domain so I can transfer it. Have contacted them no response yet.
You forgot to mention that it's only the first 300.
