Failed Nissan Pathfinder 2014 safety concern. Need advice please.

Hi, just looking for some advice of what can be done please.

I have a Nissan Pathfinder 2014 where i bought brand new from the dealer. After just over 2 years it stalled on us when my wife picked up the kids from school.

At first it got back started again lucky it was only at stop position and red light.
It happened 3 times when the 3rd basically failed and wouldnt recognised the key. Won't get back started. Had an emergency RTA towtruck to pull aside during peakhour traffic.

It got towed back to the dealer where i bought it from. Had a massive complain that they wont have provide a loan car for warranty repairs. Where we needed a car for my wife to get to work and pick up the kids to school.

I ended up write a complain to Nissan Australia after over 2 weeks at the dealer got my car and no result and they actually managed to organised a loan car from the dealer( after getting approval for parts and loan car from Nissan Aust) . So just over 3 weeks on friday the dealer called and said the car was ready. Fault was Engine Control Module which they supposedly replaced.

On that weekend Sunday the car shuts off / stalled while i was driving, Lucky road wasnt busy where i can pull over to the side and get it back started again.

The engine light comes back on where we originally had the same problem in the beginning.

Back to the dealer they have scanned and said basically the same problem Engine Control Module.

Now i just a bit concern that the car will just keep on doing this and warranty nearly over. Safety issues as well ,as we travel often on the highway where there a lot of trucks. And what if i was turning right and engine shuts off and oncoming traffic couldnt brake in time

I just would like to get some advice please and have wrote to fair trading as well waiting for help.

Thanks

  • Have a read of the choice article on Lemon Cars at https://www.choice.com.au/transport/cars/general/articles/le…

  • If the problem happened under warranty and continues to happen after warranty expires than you have a good case for getting it fixed under original warranty as it was never fixed correctly. Unfortunately these days hardly any manufacturers stand by their products

  • Here is what you do
Contact Nissan Australia Customer Care on 1800 035 035
Have your VIN number on hand and offer that information in the early stages of your call
Have a list of faults complete with approximate dates (to the best of your knowledge)
Convey the list to the Nissan representative
Raise your concerns relating to warranty period falling due and safety concerns

At this point Nissan representative hopefully will take steps to assist with your situation.
Alternatively they may investigate and come back to you.
Record the date, time and name of the Nissan rep/s you spoke with
Request they email you confirming they understand your issues/concerns and what they are proposing.
Request an email address that you can email them via.
Draft an email summarising the conversation and issues.

Best case Nissan will take steps to resolve the issue
Worst case you do not get a result you are prepared to accept, in which case you have every thing documented which will come in handy in the event a governing body steps in.

I could imagine you and you wife have little confidence in the vehicle.
Hopefully you can get a result

Nissan just refers you back to the dealer, they may only step in if parts are required under warranty purposes but you are still at the mercy of the dealer to diagnose the issue properly. Ive been down this road with nissan and a couple other brands it is a painful processGood luck to the op

      • Customer care are in a position to work with the dealer and go above and beyond what the dealer may be able to do if you just dropped you car off and left it with them.
From what the OP is saying its quite a serious safety issue.
It does sound like the dealer is failing him.

  • Thank you. I have emailed and spoke to Nissan customer service which she was the one that sort of help us to get the loan car approved. Dealer at first wouldnt give out a loan car and had it in the workshop for more then 2 weeks.

    Thats our family car too.

I think overall may be i have a concern that this will be an ongoing issue. Considering this is the 2nd time it has occured with the problem a bit traumatized.

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully no one would experience this.

  • Bad luck. Sorry that this happened to you

I thought Pathfinders are not that bad.

Make a video and you ll be famous:

Nissan will come and fix it for ya

  • Haha… so i guess this is common stuff. Sucked in by the dealer when purchased after sales is basically down hill when stuff goes wrong. Just wondering if anyone have gone out to fair trading? If its something like rattling noise or some sort of minor issue i guess i can take it.
    Thanks for the reply anyway

Back in 2002 (I know it's a long way back but it may help) I bought a new Ford Falcon. I had it for two days and I had an engine control module fail in the main street of a big country town about 100km from home. It was towed to the dealer in that town and there it sat. I don't know why but they ignored the car. I eventually called Ford public relations and said that if I didn't have my car tomorrow then I was going to one of the TV programs like Current Affair. I had a phone call at 10:00am next day that the car was available. Supposedly, they worked on the car all night. It was OK after that but the ECM failed again later during warranty. The local dealer in my town fixed it very quickly by getting an ECM from one of their new cars.

    • Who was the host of a current affair back then?

  • Ok thanks. But they didnt offer you any replacement for the failure ford?. I doubt they worked all night though. I just think most of this hard issues they ended just being at the dealer until someone complain.
Then they start working at the car.
I know of of my mate said the same thing, that they rather do minor servicing that can earn them quick bucks. Rather spending time diagnosizing warranty stuffs … Hopeless !

  • No updates. Did email customer care on the weekend but this time no call back. May be sick of this issue. Imagine me as the owner of the vehichle. Did call the dealer for but as expected no result but loan car company asking for their car. Spoke to the hopeless lady twice regarding loan car for an extension and she said she will arranged. But NO .
I felt like a begger for a car.
SUTTONS Chullora. STAY AWAY. Specially the receptionist name Hailey. HOPELESS. !

Don't slander the receptionist. She's just doing her job and isn't in a position to approve a loan car for you.

  • I know. But its just been a hard 4 weeks for me where theres has been stuffed around regarding the loan car or a car that can be used. Not sure on purpose or what. Just been a bad service that dont think anyone should experienced.
