They've had that for a while now, it's their normal price

    • +1

Agreed.. It's an old deal. I'm already half way through my contract from last year.

  • Had Foxtel included last time :/

    • +1

      That's a different bundle

    • +1

      https://www.telstra.com.au/broadband/hottest-entertainment-b…

      Its still around
Why would you want telstra to instead of foxtel

      • $99/month for 1000GB cable (at my address) internet plus Foxtel with HD Sports is actually really good value. Any idea if this will be full speed 100mBit connection? $20 extra per month for speed boost, so it's still OK but not as great as initially thought. Might try & negotiate speedboost on top of the deal with one of their reps.

        • Foxtel with HD Sports only for 3 months :(

        • +1

          @bdl:

Shit I thought it was the whole time. Cheeky feckers. Now it's just a mediocre deal. What a shame, I was ready to commit to 24 months if if the sports package was for the duration.

        • @Sir Casm: I have the same deal, it's stated as a gift from the start. Maybe whoever sold it to you forgot to mention that.

I had the old telstra TV deal (this one) and 'upgraded' to the foxtel deal so now I have both. Foxtel basic is meh, only like 9-10 channels with any TV content and even then most content is crap. The majority of the channels are news and music channels. The pvr is great though and worth it to me to record stuff.

        • @Al Kider:

The only benefit I'll get from it is live sport in HD, the only other broadcast TV I watch is the news when I happen to be home to see it. Luckily I didn't pull the trigger on this offer.

        • @Sir Casm: yeh, the deal is meh but I was already paying 100pm anyway. I will say they telstra TV box is pretty good, only it lacks the main roku app store and more importantly the plex app.

        • +2

@Al Kider: I'm pretty sure you can install Plex on a Telstra TV box
          https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Telstra-TV/HowTo-Plex…

        • @gimjam: yeh I've read that and will give it a go but haven't set up my pc/network atm.

  • It's actually a worse deal than their previous $99 deal which included foxtel and Telstra tv.

    • -1

The Foxtel deal didn't include the calls

      • +4

Forgot you were old and probably used the landline, for everyone else, it was a better deal.

        • -1

          agreed..

        • +6

I don't watch Foxtel, but I have two elderly parents who need the landline.

I won't disagree that in monetary value, Foxtel is worth more than a landline's calls. But not everyone sees it as being more useful than a landline.

I myself prefer making landline to landline calls over mobile, because the signal clarity of a landline is unbeatable. You don't have reception issues or voice breaking up like you do with mobiles. If I'm calling a landline number, I always use a landline if one is available.

        • -7

@lostn: Agreed and also using landline you aren't exposing yourself to radiation risk of putting a high power transmitter next to your brain.

        • How can 3 months of Foxtel be a "better" deal? It's not like the free foxtel was for 24 months. That would be a different deal.

        • +3

Not sure why this guy is getting downvoted over JV lmao

        • @bchliu:
The other deal is free Foxtel
But you can to choose a free addon.

As lostnsaid it's a better deal for him because his grandparents need the landline which is fair enough

        • @Hirolol:I downvoted it mainly because I have no interest in Foxtel. Also, I'd rather free calls any day than 3 months of Foxtel. And yes, I'm old and a VoIP user :)

        • +1

          @DeWalt:
Its not 3 months of foxtel.
Its free entertainment package plus the choice of an addon for three months.

        • @lostn: Landlines are VOIP now. The voice quality will be the same or worse versus mobile.

        • +1

@coxymla: Not worse. VOIP depends on the internet connection. Mobile depends on satellite/tower reception. Internet is more stable than satellite.

        • @bchliu: It was Free foxtel for the whole 24 months only the HD sport or Movie packs were for 3 months

    • +1

Foxtel was a limited package for 3 months and didn't include calls or the Telstra TV. The smaller.bundles has the Telstra tv but not the Foxtel one

Not Cheap as far as broadband goes, but it's one of Telstra's best.
Was better when it had 3 months Netflix thrown in.

      • The other deal they currently run with foxtel is free foxtel (most likely for the life of the bundle) but then you can choose one of the addon she they specify but that is only for 3 months

        • I have not seen that, are you not thinking of the Foxtel nbn bundle from Foxtel (ie: not Telstra).

I am in Sydney nbn area but not in an elligable area.

        • +1

          @SmithInOz:

No, it was the hottest entertainment bundle, Foxtel for the life of the bundle with 3mths free add-on+hd

        • okay that sounded like a great deal

  • +1

Ancient deal, if it included calls it would be a good deal. But all they've done is reduced the price from previous deals & taken the calls out

    • The calls are included according to the OP's post.

      • yeah mixed it up with the other deal where its foxel & 1tb no calls, this deal is similar but they've taken foxtel out & added calls & telstra tv, really nothing special just standard telstra tight ass packages

  • Does anyone have a direct link?
I followed the link but I cant see a 1000gb plan with unlimited calls for $99 (it shows as $120)

    • +2

As per what the Op said…" The deal is not yet available online."

      • Fair enough. Thank you.

  • +1

does anyone know if the telstra gateway modem is necessary for cable? its a $168 additional cost while similar gateway modems are going for $50 on eBay. could i just plug and play an eBay modem?

    • I'm sure it comes at no extra cost, but if they have started charging, i'm sure you can haggle with the rep to throw it in for free.

    • For an expensive plan like this surely they will throw modem in for free.

    • Yes the modem is nessecary as they offer little to no support for bringing in your own modem. The cost of the modem is free, the fee of $89 is a administration fee and the $249 is a service fee for a tech to come out and run lines etc. If you have foxtel in your house already you can probably get the $249 fee waved as they use the same lines.

I had the asus ac68u router modem already which has much stronger wifi capabilities so i ended up setting the telstra one in bridge mode and using the asus as my access point. Seems to be working flawlessly in this manner

      • Telstra now supply a cable modem and separate router, not the modem router combo they used to.

        • What model is the cable modem these days? I still have a few of the CIsco EPC3925s around as spares cause they bridge well :)

        • I prefer a modem router, because it's less clutter (I really don't have space for two units), less power plugs, and if you have a UPS with 3 battery powered ports like I have, that's one for monitor, one for desktop, and one for modem/router. With a separate modem and router, when the power goes out briefly, you're going to lose your internet.

        • @lostn: Just run a basic power board from the UPS. That's what I do, have about 6 devices hooked up to my UPS (NAS, modem, switch, 2x external hard drives, cordless phone) all just running off a basic 8 plug power board.

        • @Porthos: UPS recommend not doing that. Also one battery powered port is probably not going to be able to support your 8 strip board.

        • The gateway max is a modem router, unless this has changed in the past 2-3 weeks than the gateway max is the device you will recieve. tesltra gateway max info

Overall the device isn't to bad i just found the drop off on the wifi range to be to great in my home, so i decided to bridge the device and use my stronger wifi device as the signal source.

        • @Kiato:

They are all ADSL/VDSL modem/routers but OP specifically mentioned cable, they don't offer an integrated cable modem/router any more as a preemptive measure for the HFC NBN

        • @lostn: Err yes it can.

If you load it up with lots of power sucking devices, then of course it won't handle it. Adding in a separate router for your setup isn't going to make a bit of difference to the overall run time of your UPS considering how little power modems/routers/switches use.

With having all the devices I said earlier connected, I still have 30 mins run time as reported by my NAS (and this is a N54L with 6 hard drives in it running off a CyberPower Value 600EI).

        • @Porthos: All of my devices are power sucking, so yeah.

I don't want to use any split adapters on a battery powered slot. Just not going to do it. I have too many of them attached to one power outlet already.

A 2 in 1 vs 2 separate devices, I will always take the 2 in 1 because my desk just doesn't have the space for it. And these days they are not making AC routers that stand up vertically.

        • @lostn: Very doubtful your modem is sucking anywhere near what your PC and monitor are. I'm not suggesting people whack in a power strip and run an entire LAN party off one UPS, but running the modem and a separate router from your UPS will seriously make that little a difference with the load on it it would barely even be measurable.

Your other points are fair enough, I have everything of mine that I mentioned in a robe as that's where all my network ports are terminated. So to me having multiple devices doesn't make a difference to me in that regard.

  • I managed to get just $79.99 per month + speed boost

    • how so?

      • Negotiation, and getting someone receptive to negotiation on the other end. Mileage will vary based on who you speak to.

        • You make it sound so easy but I couldn't get them to budge a while back on any deal.

        • @leTintin: Call up again and speak to a different operator. Some of them will tell you it's impossible, or they're not allowed, or have to ask the manager. Others will just do it.

        • @lostn: I got $30 off when i negotiated a few years ago. Later they threw in speedboost as well.

So currently I have 500GB 100Meg Cable connection with home phone for $58/month (with 3 top ups a year)

        • @unifex: I could get used to that. Nice deal you scored.

I have no idea if 500GB is enough. Unlimited plans don't have any way to track your downloads each month. I might be doing less than 500GB, or I might be doing more. There's just no way to know. I suspect I'll be fine with it.

    • no surprised re speed boost but the price is good!

    • "+ speed boost" - which one? All plans include the "fast speed boost" which is 25/5 for fixed NBN. I haggled a few months back and got the $90 (500GB) plan with a $15 a month discount, plus the 'very fast speed boost' for free (norm $20 a month).

    • thats an amazing price.

did you call or chat online?

      • Just call them to negotiate when your contract is about to end. Threaten to leave and they will transfer you to the retention team to negotiate the price.

        • +1

don't have a contract with telstra. hoping to switch from iinet adsl2 to telstra cable as NBM doesn't come to my area till mid 2018. do you reckon they'd give a bit of leeway to new customers too?

        • @bkx3virgin:

It's hard to negotiate, I joined them because I had no choice. Telstra is the only provider available at my area, have you looked at My Republic yet? Their price is cheaper than Telstra.

        • @divious:

im in the same boat as u.. nbn not yet in my area and telstra cable is only option..

having tough love from "supervisors" not willing to budge on advertised prices listed on website.

        • Depend on where you live. If your area have optus and telstra, a chance for u to get the deal is very likely. In my area, I can only get telstra, so doesn't matter who you talk to, no discount at all :(

  • +1

Just remember Telstra defaults you to 25/5 and makes you pay for a speed boost to 50/20 and then another to 100/40 (if you are able to get those speeds).
You can usually negotiate to get these included while signing up.

    • You reckon they'll give anything to someone who's never been on Telstra?

      • definitely.

  • Original link is for adls2+. Same deal for NBN bundled plans on included 25/5 service. I assume this is a special price for the L bundle plan.

  • Can you post a photo of the catalogue?

    In Critical Information Summary:
"A Very Fast Speed Boost is available for an additional $20 per month on nbn
or a Super Fast Speed Boost for an additional $20 per month for Cable
or $30 per month on nbn (except on nbn Fixed Wireless)."

  • +1

I have same deal since last year or so. As I was existing customer , I called them for some additional sweetener and they throw me the unlimited international calling package in the same price.

So basically I pay $100 with 1000gb , unlimited local calls and international calls. I tried to get same deal for my friend couple of month ago but they refuse 'tis time.

    • Call again for your mate.
Keep calling till you get the right person or go to online chat. They will usually hook you up

  • -6

    Yawn such terribad value.

100 per month for 100/40 unlimited + phone with my RSP, no problems downloading around 5tb per month.

    http://imgur.com/2J8Jekn

Why people support telstra for home services is beyond me, but then again the great unwashed rarely think for themselves.

    • +2

      LOL.
      Stop hating mate.

Once nbn hits my area I will defs be ditching my telstra broadband but as for mobile phone I quite like having reception pretty much all the time.
I travel to rural areas for work so I can't afford to lose reception.

As for your porn download usage we don't need to see that mate. Hehe XD

      • -2

Maybe you should read it again, i said why people go for telstra on home services, nothing about their mobile network (which is best reception wise on the market)

        • +1

Because some of us have no choice. If i were to try and switch to another provider i could possibly lose my port and end up with no internet at all.
I am not in contract and last time i spoke to them they were not interested in offering me anything to go on a contract. Probably because they know i can't go anywhere else

        • -5

          @marko62:

Oh you are still on adsl? sheesh still unreal that people are on that decades out of date technology. Fiber is where its at.

        • +2

          @MATTDAMON:
I will be lucky if NBN is in my area by the end of 2018

        • +1

@MATTDAMON: Not everyone has that mate.

        • -6

@lostn: It is available to everyone, if you have deep enough pockets.

        • @MATTDAMON: It's not available to me unless I move house.

        • -1

          @lostn:

Yes it is. Called dark or private fiber. With deep enough pockets anything is possible.

        • @MATTDAMON: Well of course anything is possible if your pocket depth has no limit. But unfortunately for most of us, that isn't the case.

      • For mobile phone you can also use lycamobile as well. It works well in the rural area :)

        • -1

Or unlimited telstra 4g for 299/month.

Bit of a dark art to get it via business reps but it is available. Also gives you upto 10 share sims for the account as well.

    • +4

Because 4 ISPS so far that I've tried all have major congestion at night time.

      • +3

This. I use to bag Telstra then I moved to a Telstra only area and was amazed.

  • Hi OP,
If you can please post catalogue photo as proof and upload it to imgur that would be great.
    Thanks!

  • I'm on $95 a month with 100mb 1000gb do people use landlines these days?

    • so free speedboost?

      • Just said I got full adsl2 speeds so the normal plan would be a waste of time and that's what i got offered was paying $99 for adsl2 so works out cheaper and 4x the speed

    • +1

Alarm systems do use landlines :)

    • +1

Plenty of areas still depend on landlines.

    • Haven't used my landline in years. Have one though… no phone connected lol.
I'm on the 500GB 50/20 for $75 (discounted by $15 a month and free 'very fast speed boost'). Not all that bad of a deal considering its Telstra. Until I moved I was payin $80 for crappy ADSL1 with 200GB.

    • Yes had to fax off some forms to the bank. I had to plug the mfp in, shikes I thought they were dead.

      Worked fine over nbn FTTN

  • Instead of just say 1TB, Telstra marketing is trying hard to make this looks really really big bargains. They should have said "a whopping 1,000,000 MB !!"
Yes, they probably already thought of x 1024 instead of x 1000 as well.
