Wedding Photography/Videography Packages & Entertainment Suggestions?

Hi All!

Our big day is coming up in a years time and we have started the long grinding process of research & wedding planning and we have opt not to have a wedding planner. Ideally we will be conscious of our spending and budget.. but at the same time are looking to impress our guests and have plenty of quality memories for life.

I've been referred a few sources by family & friends (which are helpful leads) and done some brief research online but all which seems rather vague at this stage (most don't advertise pricing). Hard to determine the true value as cheap prices don't necessarily guarantee good value and vice versa.

Has any fellow ozbarginers have any great suggestions for photography packages and entertainment for reception night that offer good value? Any great experiences to share?

Cheers TIA

In case you haven't come across this post by Daniel, a wedding photographer in Sydney, have a look. Who knows, what he offers may fit your needs.

Don't know about professional photographers but ask your guests to take lots of their own photos and ask them to provide you with them. You can then edit them into a DVD that will provide you with official, and unofficial, photos. (Probably not during the ceremony itself, but afterwards and during the reception might be fun.)

    • Cheers I was thinking along the same lines. A photoboot-like setup with props tends to be a fun trend at some weddings i've been too in recent times!

    Firstly, congrats!

My advice would be to stick to your budget (where possible) and make sure you check the photographers previous work (look for reviews and perhaps even try checking with previous customers for "testimonials"); you will quickly get a feel for the style of photos they take; some you might find tacky or too dramatic, so go with what you like.

FYI We used these guys for photos only (didn't have the budget for video); was happy with them (but then again, we obviously didn't go with anyone else so have nothing to compare to). http://www.cinemotive.com.au/

    • Thanks for the suggestion! agreed, the ones on my hit list are the ones that i prefer on their sample vids/pics.
Will take a look at the site you linked!

  • The free app WedPics is great for photo/video sharing. You set up an account and username that people can access, and it allows guests to upload photos and videos to a central location. It's free for guests to download, and a great way for you to see all the images people have captured throughout the day. It's possible to send out the app info ahead of time, so guests even have a chance to download the ap before the wedding.

If you wanted, it could even be used as a source of entertainment. You could set up "challenges" for your guests. For example, a photo scavenger hunt with a list of things to take pictures of throughout the day.

    Happy planning! :)

    • We used Google photos for sharing the photos of friends and family, just set up an account and emailed the link to everyone after the day.
Wedivite is a cost effective (free) way to send out formal wedding invitations and lets you be up to date with the RSVP'd guests.
