Brita Maxtra Filter Cartridges - 4 Pack for $29.95 (Was $49.95) @ Myer (Free to C&C, or +$10 for Delivery)

190

I've just bought these Maxtra filter cartridges as I bought the jug over the weekend, and the first two Myer stores that I have tried had them for Click & Collect. Plus, as far as I know, they're the cheapest 4 pack cartridges in the market at the moment.

Also on Ebay with further 5% off with coupon code CAU5. Link to the item:

    I just bought too! :)

    • Does that code work with a certain amount, like $50+ or something? I've tried it (just to see if it works, as I've already bought it on the main site), and I got this "We can't apply this code until you reach the minimum order total."

Also, on eBay, all my local stores are already showing out of stock. Not sure if they really sold out, or if Myer is pushing the delivery cost.

      • Yes, min purchase $50. I bought 2 and some other stuffs. :)

I bought 12x cartridges today for $68.70 delivered.

5% ebay discount, then subtract another 1.3% with CR. $5.73 per cartridge. Costco's standard price is $8 per cartridge. If anyone is paying $12.50 per cartridge, they are generously donating to the retailer.

what is wrong with tap water?
its never made anyone sick in australia.

Nothing wrong with the water itself, but in my case I'm in an apartment block with 40-50 year old pipes and the water tastes quite coppery. The filter makes it taste much, much better.

    • Have you ever smelled or tasted tap water in Adelaide? There's quite a strong whiff of chlorine in it. I always drink filtered tap water.

I know I can store the water in my fridge for a day to let the chlorine gas off, but if I need the water now that's not much good.

Also, filtering water through a carbon filter is not to prevent people getting sick from it. The filter does not filter out bacteria or viruses, not that they are a problem in Australian tap water anyway.

They are much cheaper if you're looking to buy in bulk - only $5.70 per filter with the 5% coupon from here:

I received a code with the jug and I entered a draw for a chance to win a year's worth of filters. I know, I like dreaming. :P

    • Great find.
      Got that instead.

  • Is there any bad effects in drinking tap water versus drinking this Brita filtered water?

  • Wasn't there a post awhile back saying these filters do more harm than good or something ?

    • In what way? They remove chlorine to make Adelaide tap water palatable. The only down side is a slight increase in acidity (6.5 instead of 7).

Interesting. Aluminium isn't used in the cartridge itself (AFAIK), but aluminium sulphate is used as a flocculating agent in water treatment. In theory there should be trace amounts of it left in the water. Does Brita make free aluminium from the sulphate? Interesting.

          Aluminum reduction: INCREASE of 33.9%
          Strontium reduction: 3.6%
          Cesium reduction: 9.5%
          Uranium reduction: 10.0%
          etc.

The problem I have with these figures is that it's in percentage terms. How many parts per million in the actual sample? If we're talking 3ppm aluminium in tap water and 4ppm after filtering, that's an increase on a tiny amount and not worth worrying about.

Also, if your water contains strontium, cesium and uranium, you have some real problems in your general area that should be addressed. Never mind the tap water.

  • Great deal for pickup but pity about their $9.95 flat rate shipping.

    • On their website (the deal link I've posted here) many stores have C&C, but somehow their eBay page is showing out of stock in some of the stores that I have tried. Kinda weird!

  • Thanks OP, just bought 2

  • no longer available :(

    • Not sure if you're trying to buy them from their eBay store, but you can still buy this from the Myer site, depending if your store has any still in stock. I've just picked my purchase from the Marion shopping center store in SA, and that store is still showing C&C availability.
