  • What's the iOS app like? Also, is it easy to get bands in other colours? My wife wants the Fitbit Alta HR, but I'm curious how this one would compare.

    • Bands are plentiful on eBay/AliExpress

      • Thanks. It might be worth trying one out first to see if she likes the idea, before splashing out on a more expensive model.

    • It's good for the price, but HR accuracy is a bit patchy. I upgraded to a Fitbit blaze when I had the money (a significant difference obviously) and it's much better.

  • +1

Is the heart rate monitor 24hrs?

    • No. If it was you'd be looking at a much shorter battery life.

      • +1

        Cool thanks for the info.

        • You can get continuous using third party apps on the google play store.

        • @adrianhughes1998:
Link please as I have been unable to enable continuous HR?

        • +1

@bongom: notify and fitness for mi band, is the name of the app

    • It checks every 10 minutes or so or when you press.

  • +1

can't compare it to other bands, but had mine for 3 months and love it. Have a couple different bands on the way from eBay

    • when you say other 'bands' is that other models of xiaomi bands? Never seen xiaomi fitness bands before, only using fitbit so just curious.

    • I also need some extra straps, original one is almost gone, which ones did you order and from which seller?

    • would love to know as Buff said which sellers you used for some good straps.

      • Sorry for the late reply. I used this ebay shop for a couple of metal straps. Much easier to wear than the rubber and cheap enough that I have no problem wearing them in the shower.

  • I've never had one of these devices, do they need to be paired with a phone or can they operate independently?

    Is the sleep tracker accurate?

How does this model compare to the FitBit or other brands? $26 seems cheap compared to what I imagined these costing.

    • I'd like to know this also.

    • They operate independently up to a point, don't quote me on this but maybe upto 7 days. You will need to sync with your phone to free up capacity or you'll start missing days. I think I've left mine up to 3-4 days without syncing and it's been fine.

Can't compare with the fitbit as I've never had one, but these things are great for the money. I don't know how sleep tracking compares to other units but I have to say it's pretty much spot on so far. I've had mine for 6 months or so.

Edit: oh, the battery life is amazing, I charge it once a month or so.

    • They can be used independently but ideally paired with a phone every few days to view more detailed stats.
The band basically gives you the option to show basic info on the screen by pushing the button. Eg. Time and date, heart BPM, steps for the day, etc.
The app allows for a more detailed view of all your stats and allows you to customize what's on the band. Eg. Turn off heart rate monitoring, turn on battery percentage remaining, etc.
My wife and I both get around 45 days of battery percentage charge. Very happy with it!

      I have a fitbit and the xiaomi 1s band…

      fitbit pros:
      app is way better
      looks much nicer

      cons:
      doesnt synch to ihealth
      battery much shorter lifespan

      xiaomi pros:
battery lasts for over a month
      can set smart alarm
is about 10% of the price
      synchs with ihealth

      cons:
      app is pretty average

Overall it's much of a muchness really… I like that the xiaomi synchs to ihealth along with things like runkeeper so it's all in the same place. The app for fitbit allows you to input calories, amount you drink etc so it's better in that regard, but you tend to use that feature for about a week and think it's cool then never use it again. I dont think you'd be wasting money to dip your toe in the water and try a xiaomi, if your wife doesnt like it, then you can have it and she can get a fitbit :) in my case, my wife bought the fitbit, so I bought the xiaomi, she ended up swapping to the xiaomi because she liked it better.

RE sleeptracker - its fairly accurate, the xiaomi uses the heart rate monitor at night to be more accurate. I get virtually the same results with either device, it does detect when i wake up in the middle of the night, though there are some false positives at times being in bed with a breastfeeding wife who gets up and down in the night. I dont think I wake up, but sometimes it detects that - either the bed is moving enough to make it get a false positive, or my sleep gets lighter and it detects it. So either way its fairly sensitive.

I have had a Fitbit HR that just died. I've just got a Xiaomi Fitband 2.

The most useful things for me on these things are the silent alarm and sleep tracking. The sleep trackers on both seem equivalent.

The Fitbit app is better. The Fitbit logged my bike rides as a step equivalent which was good for me. The Fitband doesn't do that.

The Fitbit was pretty poorly put together. My band broke and the button broke after about 2 years. Not what you expect from a ~$150 watch. The battery life on the Fitbit is an issue. The charging cable isn't well done either.

The Fitband actually looks better in some of these respects. You can replace the band so that's not an issue.

The Fitbit had a timer which was very useful for some exercise. I miss that.

If you've never had one of these I'd get a Fitband. Lots of people don't use their Fitness trackers much. If you find you do use it then perhaps get something else. It seems the new Garmins are possibly the best around. Better build quality and they have things sorted.

      • WHen you say fitband, is that this band 2 advertised in this post? Sorry I am out of the loop with xiaomi's offerings and the like.

        • Yep. The one here

      • I agree, my wife gave me a Fitbit charge HR the Christmas before last and it only lasted me about 6 months before I had to get them to replace it. My replacement broke after about 2-3 months as well. Overall, really not what you'd expect from something that cost us $200 at the time.

What I did like about the Fitbit was the large community who uses it, I often find workmates and friends who uses it so it's got a real community sense to it. Like challenging each other to workout goals/step goals for that weekend.

I recently bought the xiaomi band 2 and it's been as advertised so far. Much better than I expected from something that cost me less than $30. It's less flimsy than I expected, but the band itself can be quite hard to strap on.

Also the band2 doesn't continuously track your HR like the charge HR does, which can be a bit annoying if you want to know your instantaneous HR or average rate for the day.

    • Is the sleep tracker accurate?

      No.

Like all smartwatches. You may as well get sleep tracking for this price because it doesn't work.

  • Good band and features for the price. I went back to the 1S pulse though as it seemes to track sleep better.

They took a month to deliver. Was not worth the wait.

    • Better than gamiss. Ordered 3rd Jan, nothing yet lol

Lol if you didn't select express shipping this is the standard wait for all Chinese retailers. Four to six weeks etc.

    • I ordered mine when it was posted previously, shipped on March 10th. Still waiting….

Got this from the last deal. A few things:
    * The battery life is great. 1 week plus.
    * It does indeed vibrate on call/text, and it shows the caller/ sender briefly. Email notifications also work
    * HR monitor seems accurate although i haven't used it much
    * Mainly I use it with a 3rd party app, which turns the button thing into a button which can send different commands to the phone based on 1,2 or 3 taps.
Ie 1 tap skip songs on spotify, 2 taps initiate Tasker protocol #2 etc

Downsides are the 'clock' feature where you raise your arm and it displays the time has sort of poor detection, and you really have to make it obvious, like somebody 'over-acting' checking their watch, lol.

  • anyone know any smart watches or healthy wrist band that allow you to change song or volume on your phone?

    • Sony talkband has a song change feature not sure about volume…

    • Fitbit blaze does this, for quite a high price.

  • Here's hoping this one turns up. Still waiting for a refund on Gamiss via PayPal, even escalated it to a claim.

  • Any bargains for cool straps? Mine is dying… And Yes if someone is looking to buy thus, it's worth it!

  • Ordered from these guys on 10/03 and it arrived yesterday 12/04 (metro Brisbane). Yes, it took a while, but it is $20 and so far so good from the watch itself. Haven't really used it other than the sleep tracker

  • +1

When you buy more than 1 piece, you have to pay extra for "better" shipping. Buying 3, you can choose tracking or express. 3-5pieces locks you in at $16.01USD for express shipping. At 5 pieces, you pay an extra ~$2.5 per item which gets you a month-early use.

5 pieces = $108.46usd = (at the time) $144.01aud / 5 pieces = $28.8aud per piece (excl. cc exchange rate fee) vs. original $26.58 (excluding cc exchange rate fee)

    Processing Time: 1-4 business days
Shipping Time: Express Expedited 4-5 business days

So I am guessing my package will arrive in 10 days max.

Hope this helps anyone else looking to buy for the [extended]family.

    • Ordered this on the 13th and my items are still being processed. Basically don't trust their 5 day processing time. I sent them a ticket which was replied in less than half hour saying:

Thank you for shopping with us. Your order is currently in the processing phase and will be shipped out no later than 2017-04-22 using Expedited. The package normally takes 3-5 business days to arrive. The Total Delivery Time consists of both the processing time and the shipping time. On our website the processing time appears on the product page, right above the "add to cart" button. For more information please see the following link.

Over on this thread we discovered that lightinthebox was using "SF Express" for expedited delivery. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/298850?page=2#comment
However, SF Express rejected the packages, as they don't allow anything with lithium batteries to be flown by air with them.
It has been just under 3 weeks and our packages still haven't left china.

If they are still using SF Express with orders, then your packages will be rejected and you will have to deal with their horrid customer service.
I would advise everyone to avoid lightinthebox for now, as they are clearly having some major issues.

    • +2

don't know why you're being downvoted - seems like a real issue. upvoted

      • +1

Yeh idk either. maybe they didn't see the comment with the email: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/298850?page=2#comment-4600…

One lot from the deal was sent fine with DP Worldwide, but then there was a huge delay on the next orders, which the rep said was 'shipping issues'. Then it seems they sent them out with SF Express, and now this happens… I wonder if DP Worldwide started rejecting them initially for the same reason (lithium batteries)?

Definitely a real issue. Their customer service is mindbogglingly bad, and I caught them admitting they don't actually have any idea of the state of progress at the warehouse. I fear what it is going to be like handling this returned shipment issue -_-.

    • I used the cheaper shipping (or free, can't remember) the last time this was on sale and got mine yesterday. I was looking to get a few more and wanted them quickly so I guess I'll have to buy elsewhere. :(

    • +2

morning sir, apologize for such problem, we are trying to use a new shipping company on the last deal and some unpredictable things happened, and delayed all package for xiaomi air book. i'm discussing it with my ship team's colleagues and trying to solve it. i will let all you guys know at first time when we have any new furthers.

      • Bought with paypal, auto returned to cart, then auto added shipping fee, awaiting 'proceed' by user. Stay away.

    • +3

I emailed support and they've replied just now that the Mi Band 2 for this deal is not using SF Express and that they have stopped using SF Express all together since that issue with the Air Book.

Edit: What rep was saying above.

  • I brought one of these last sale.

The software has come leaps and bounds. Plenty of third party apps also available for additional features (Music control, etc).

Caller ID, app notifications, continuous heart rate monitoring when exercising are all great!

    Highly recommend for the price.

  • comes to 32 with delivery, with 4 weeks wait time better to go with Australian shop with 5 dollar difference and 3~4 days delivery

    • Do you have a recommendation for an Australian store? I can't find any that comes close to this pricing. :(

      • dx.com.au 32 from China and AUD 37.72 from oz 5 days delivery. I haven't tried them but they seem legit

    • the post says $26.58 AUD delivered? How did you arrive at $32??

  • Also, it only comes with a 2 month warranty. So if the band snaps or the sensor keeps slipping out of the band, you will need to purchase a new strap.

  • +1

The display on mine died after two months.

  • +1

I have this and hardly used it. last time charged is 65 days ago and yet 34% battery

    • -1

      Interested in selling it?

  • How is the battery life?

    • Great. Just charged mine after 3 weeks.

    • +1

3-4 weeks moderate use. If you get a lot of calls/messages and have the notifications turned on all the time it'll be way less. However as others have said the battery life is way superior to even more fancy bands so for the price you can't go wrong in that regard.

    • I get roughly 7 weeks.

  • Interested. Does this sync with google fit? I prefer all my data be there, and not in my mi app. Google already tracks my fitness through my phone, but I figured this could save some phone battery and also be useful when I don't have the phone on my like when playing basketball etc.

    • +1

      Yes it does.

  • Ordered 2 in 2 separate orders in the last deal to get better price and they shipped them separately

So far I have only received one

  • so mine (from the previous deal) just turned up

Is there a recommended android app/setup process to follow before I break it?

  • Pretty happy with miband tbh. It's actually waterproof and has lasted longer than the Fitbit charge HR.

  • -1

Like i mentioned before, buy elsewhere. shipping is ridiculous.

  • +1

Does this work well with Strava? If at all? Cheers!

  • Upvote! hopefully comes within a month as I just bought one for mothers day.

  • Am I missing something? Appears to be cheaper with multiple sellers on eBay with free delivery

    • Agreed, is there a reason this is so much cheaper? Kogan seem to be selling the mi band 2 for $67? Is this legit?

Do they come like the powerbank with a seal of authenticity code you can scratch to check?

    • I think many of the ebay sellers are selling non genuine mibands or are misrepresenting them. Some of the photos I see are definitely not the mi band 2 design.

Can anyone with a fitbit charge HR experience comment on xiaomi trackers?

I have my first fitness tracker - a fitbit charge HR. Bought during boxing day sales from jb hi fi in 2015, back then $129 was a bargain. Less than a few months later in april 16 i had to get it replaced after it became non responsive.

Again come feb 2017 i've replaced it again - it took me an arm and a leg to get a replacement. It seems they were so inundated with 'replacement' complaints and sending out replacements, that they began not offering replacements for out of warranty. It annoys me as initial warranty is 1 year from your initial purchase. The fact that each new replacement lasted less than a year in itself was testament that quality just isn't there.

The xiaomi's seem to have some good reviews here, but I know nothing about models and if this band 2 is the better or more recommended, but it's dirt cheap? <$30 aud including delivery?? Is it too good to be true?

Can anyone comment on features - with my fitbit i mainly use it to doubel tap to occasionally check my steps throughout the day. Check how much sleep i got. Once in awhile check my heart rate after sports. I don't do any intense checking of my water or calorie intakes etc. So I don't 'think' i need anything too complex.

It would be cool to get a phone with email viewing on gmail or hotmail, but again I am worried that would go into the big square style watches, than a bracelet style I can tuck under my wristband when I play basketball.

More importantly - has anyone with a fitbit charge HR compared and found the steps and heart rate tracker accurate on the xiaomi band 2? Or even xiaomi trackers in general?

I found the fitbit pretty accurate, provided i wasn't on non dominant hand setting as it would pick up me wiping myself in the toilet even.. Haha.

And generally - is the band 2 the recommend goto for xiaomi trackers? I want the mid range, ok model - i.e. fitbit charge HR, not a flex (too basic/cheap) or blaze (too high tech/expensive to be taking a basketball to the face etc). Should I stick with this as a first venture?

    • And how does this work with non xiaomi/apple phones in terms of having features that work well with android? I have a sony xperia z3, so far it seems comments refer to ihealth on the iphone and also being able to unlock xiaomi phones, but just wondering how android fares.

    • Haha I was thinking of getting this mainly for basketball and the sleep function also, wonder if it will be durable enough…

    • same boat as you! My Charge HR got replace twice and each replacement lasted shorter than its former - fitbit weren't helpful with the last issue and I just gave up

  • +1

If fast shipping is required then don't order from these places. If you want cheap, then order and set a reminder in calander for 6 weeks, kind of a buy now and one day it will arrive (set and forget). When items start arriving its fun wondering what's in the post today (assuming one buys lots of misc items from overseas). Main thing is not to forget what's on order, hence setting calander reminders. All my items (many) have arrived and usually anywhere from 28 days to 42days :-)

  • +2

Since my fitbit HR died i've been pretty anti buying another one due to them being way over-priced i think with the 70cents freight insurance i payed $29AU for this so it is worth giving ago.

Personally i'd never buy a fitbit again they are buggy, i had heaps of issues with the software (it might be better now this was when the HR 1st came out) but i paid a fair bit of money for a device that is essentially a pedometer that needs charging every 3-4 days

  • Which is the best app in play-store to sync this?
    Thanks,

  • 1 week after purchase still processing status. I am a bit concerned now.

    • Wait a little more. Mine was 8 days. Just received the shipping notification yesterday.

    • Same boat here. Purchased 13th. Only started 'Packaging' on 20th.

  • Has anyone received their items yet?

I paid for express shipping on the 12 April.
The item was dispatched on the 21 April.
It was supposed to arrive in 5 days but nothing yet.

Looks like express is no different from normal shipping..

  • Received mine last week. Works just as good as my fitbit HR but syncs so much reliably. Even tells u the percentage while syncing. For 7 days of use, still got 65% charge. It feel weird not having to charge it for long periods. It's made with a better build and I like how u can change the wrist bands which will be useful when stretch or damage the rubber. I'll be buying more for family members for sure.

  • +1

Mine just arrived. Purchased on 12/4, shipped on 19/4, arrived 12/5. Not bad.

  • Hi all. Got mine last thurs and we cracked them open last night.

Can anyone confirm that is is normal there is no xiaomi authenticity scratch code? I thought all xiaomi came with this? both of mine don't - wondering if that is a sign of it being genuine or not?

Also - so far so good using it, but as some say the heart rate does seem patchy at times (like higher than it shoudl be, but then typically it's fine - although doesn't instil as much confidence as fitbit devices). But otherwise the only thing I notice is the odd off steps (generally counting throuhg it picks them up, but not as accurately as a fitbit I think), but worse is I've noticed on both my mums and mine that we bought, at a certain point we both froze in steps for awhile. Mine eventually started counting again but hers was stuck on mid 4000s for awhile, and she insisted she did way more steps on her 'daily walk' than 4000. She claimed 500 something steps on one lap and did 12 laps, yet only clocked up 4400 something for the whole day.

Has anyone else had these issues with the steps tracker reamining on the same number when you check over a period of time? worried about the quality of tracking day 1… short of that it isn't too bad a device. Like the fonts.

Is it just me or does the physical unit sit at an angle (top part is slanted to right) when you look down on it. It somewhat bugs me how it's not straightly symmetrical, appears by design?
