Where Do You Buy Your Winter Clothing?

My question is for Sydneysiders as I live in Sydney but anyone is welcome to chip in. I'm in need of buying a couple of good winter jackets/coats and would prefer to buy them from a shop after trying them out rather than buying them online. I'm prepared to spend around $150 (or $200 may be) for a good jacket but not more than that. It doesn't need to be branded etc. So where do you guys usually buy your winter wear?

Thanks in advance.

Uniqlo for sure. Their thermal clothing is great for the price.

        • @holdenmg: Just me getting ready for work???

        • Mrs- Mother replacement system

  • Age? Size? Style (corporate or casual)?

Gazman is an old man brand.

    • corporate, I have plenty of casual that I can't wear for work

  • definitely uniqlo

    • thanks mate, will def check them.

  • If you change your mind about online shopping, then check out ASOS. They have decent products at great prices - also has free returns.

If you are particular about instore, yeah then uniqlo for sure. Sometimes even Big W or target.

    • Also, if you get a chance - try Costco - winter clothes amazing quality at great prices.

Source: got a Tommy Hilfiger puffer jacket for $85 from costco this evening.

    End of season clearance sales.

  • My suggestion is a bit different, but we went to the USA in 2010 during Black Friday and their outlet sales were stupid cheap… Eg brand name jeans for under $10. I picked up a Guess and Calvin Klein heavy/overcoat for $50 each… Would probably set you back over $300 or more here.

So on the off chance you happen to be travelling there, stock up!

Exchange rate was 1 to 1 at the time though so that helped.

But yeah, DFO, Birkenhead Point, Fashion Spree would be your Sydney equivalents I suppose?

I haven't bought uniqlo winter stuff personally but I see them everywhere and I like some of the clothes there in general.

  • My wife bought some jackets for herself online from www.fashionup.com.au, quality is really good. So I think online you will get lots of variety and discounts. I bought mostly online from Connor,DFO type of outlets when on sale.

  • You have some really fantastic opshops there in Sydney, I like the ones in the cross and redfern areas. Google "opshops sydney" for their locations. There is also a fantastic one in Hornsby (I haven't been there for years so just check the Salvos are still there) where they used to sort clothes and put on the racks before they open, so get to that one for opening time :-)

Opshopping is great in that you can get some amazing designer wear at a fraction of the cost. Most jackets you can wash on gentle cycle, leather jackets can be gently washed, I haven't tried suede because I have heard it can't be, and dry cleaning them is expensive.

Oh and if you find any fantastic opshops in your travels let me know as I will be coming to Sydney to do my winter shopping too :-)

    • I've found that charity shops are now on par price wise if not more than department store sales with many clothing items. I can & prefer to buy new clothes from department stores as opposed to used clothing from charity shops at the same price.

  • No issues go to k mart affordable for all the family Good quality clothing

  • Icebreaker Birkenhead head point outlet on a 70% off RRP Sale, sign up to the websit for a heads up when the next one is happening.

Still not cheap, but I like it anyway.

    • Are you referring to the outlet centre's e-news or is there one specific to the icebreaker store I can sign up to?

      • I think there is only one, but the outlet store in particular…

My emails come from [email protected]

        • Do you know the link where I can sign up?

  • There's a deal on macpac at the moment

Otherwise uniqlo is quite good and pretty cheap

  • thanks everyone, I'm going to check out the suggestions and may be look into online shopping as well :)
