Need glasses - any tips?

Hi all,

I have just had an eye test for the first time in my life at the age of 28. I was told that everything is looking healthy but that I could benefit from glasses.

I don't get headaches or anything but occasionally I have blurry vision reading street signs.

What would be my best way forward to get a decent pair of glasses for a reasonable price?? I don't have any private health

I was told that everything is looking healthy but that I could benefit from glasses.

Umm… if this is at an optometrist, get a second opinion?

    • I made an appointment at OPSM so I understand they have an incentive to sell me glasses. But the moment I compared my vision with and without glasses there was a discernable difference

      • Get the full prescription from ops and look at somewhere else to buy, but honestly I wouldn't get any yet.

  • The cost of glasses (unless you have a strong prescription) wont be an issue. ..I usually buy a few pairs for $10-20 each online, then see what design/fits best and use the best one.

What is odd however, is the ambiguity. Do you need glasses, or not? Did they give you a script?

I would be contacting the optometrist again for clarification. Or if it wasn't an optometrist making an appointment. Medicare will give you a general check every 2 years and most places bulk bill.

  • get the script from the optometrist, then buy from the net….. heaps of places….

Get the test results, and buy online. For around $25 or so purchase price it's not a disaster if you don't end up using them. I like zenni.

  • If the doctor thinks that everything's ok with your vision then didn't you ask the reason of blurry vision at times?

  • There are many websites where you can buy glasses online. The prices are reasonable.

  • If everything's right and you don't even have any headaches which indicates poor vision then why do you think you can get any benefit from using glasses?
