    $20 saving from AU.
    What is the warranty status.

    • It's an import. There's no local warranty.

Costco did have these on a discount about 6 months ago for $139 in a range of colours.

      Costco's price is now $159

I expect Costco is due to put these on sale again very soon.

The JBL Flip 4 is better this?

    • +1

Quite possible. the Flip 4 is very well reviewed. It looks quite impressive and has a very similar feature set to the UE Boom 2 with better sound quality (so says online reviews).

The main advantage for UE Boom 2 is that it is supposed to be much louder, so that matters if it is being used in instances where audio quality is not as much of an issue.

      • So the UE boom 2 is the best beach cabana speaker?
Looking for one where the surf means have to combat the wind and the sound of the ocean.

        • +1

The ue boom 2 is excellent beach speakers afaik though i dont know about best. They are rugged and you can just wash the sand out. Drop resistant up to 5 feet.

The flip 4 is basically targeted directly at the ue range so offer very similar features.

There's nothing like a UE Boom <3 miss my old one, fits in a cup holder and super loud while being super clear, played triple j hottest 100 from midday till 7pm and all on a single charge.

I managed to get the Megaboom for $200 last December, well worth the extra money if you can, amazing sound and quality.

I've owned a mini boom, my mate has a boom v1 and another with a boom v2, and I'm definitely happy with the upgrade - use the speaker almost every day

    • Yep, I scored one for that price too and have been loving it. Been my travel companion for the last year.

Sounds great outdoors and definitely glad I got the larger size (not sure the regular one would cut if for me).

Would love to find a second one for linkup one day!

      • Try putting it in the corner of a room for better acoustics ;)

        • Totally on top of that. :)

With the buttons facing away seems to give the best result.

  • Very happy with the UE Boom II I picked up for my missus last christmas, very loud, decent sound/build quality and great battery. I'd definitely recommend one if you are in the market for a portable bluetooth speaker.

  • Hey, I am new to Asutralia; just wanted to check if I could get stung by customs tax if I was to order from Amazon Europe/US?

    • +5

GST is only collected on things which cost over $1000 from overseas. You are safe if you only buy 7 of these.

      • Great - thanks for the confirmation

  • Can anyone confirm that JBL Flip 4 is better than UE BOOM 2? In terms of sound and price.

    • +1

From what I have read the audio from the flip 4 is more "true". However the positioning of the flip 4 is more fiddly in that it has speakers on the top and bottom of the canister design so if you place it upright you lose volume and quality whereas the ue boom has no such issue.

The flip 4 is much newer so the improvement is not unreasonable. Having said that I genuinely think the ue boom 2 is a great speaker and the flip 4 looks great as well.

The flip 4 is also only available from grey importers atm so I can't really comment on pricing. Depends on the deal you can get.

I would definitely read some thorough reviews before buying the UE Boom 2. What Hifi (normally a high end reviewer) heaped praise over it so I blindly purchased on Qantas points and regret it, functionality is great and early impressions are good but the sound quality is lacking badly at mid to high volume, to the point I just can't listen to it. Maybe if you are pumping radio or are pleased with highly compressed MP3's you will love it but for the premium price the JBL's are beating this hands down.

Best side by side comparisons for all portable speakers is this guy from Germany/ Austria https://www.youtube.com/user/clavinetjunkie solid reviews with direct comparisons.

I will sell mine, very new less than 20 hours on it, for $100 just so I can upgrade to something like the Vifa Oslo (a lot dearer) or the JBL Flip 4 in the same range.

Just to comment on the ruggedness of the Megaboom, my friend threw it in the air at the skatepark, missed catching it completely (dumbass), and it bounced off the concrete back into his hands and works perfectly to this day…

Not that I'm recommending anyone replicate this.

  • stupid Q - how do i change the language to english on this website?

    • Click on the little globe with DE written above it and change it to EN. Its located in the top right hand corner of the page to the left of where you sign into your account.

      • thanks :)

i read that it comes with a wall charger. so then it would be the EU one?

  • +1

If anyone is wondering why it's so cheap, take a look at the release cycle.

The original UE BOOM was announced May 21st 2013, and went on sale in the United States and Europe later that month.

UE BOOM 2 came out September 15th 2015.

If this is anything to go by, the UE BOOM 2 is being discounted because there's about to be a UE BOOM 3.

In my opinion, this doesn't make current speakers any less of a bargain. It's a great price for a reasonable sounding music speaker.

But if you're the kind of person who doesn't like having previous generation technology, you might want to hold out for a few months.

You might even find they start putting the UE BOOM 2 on clearance.

    • +1

I agree with you, if you don't mind having slightly outdated tech, you can save a lot. I myself bought my 5 Phorus PS1 speakers for $20 each, and as portability doesn't matter (they're for in the house, can play the same song in multiple rooms etc) to me they're superior as they offer better audio quality and application support (such as ad free Pandora radio built into the app).

If you don't mind waiting, I'd expect these to start dropping to a quarter of the price in a couple of years, especially as stores clear old models for the new ones.

      • +1

There are definitely better sounding speakers out there. It sounds like you got yourself a bargain

But for a waterproof, ruggedised and portable music speaker, the UE BOOM 2 is pretty good. It can handle punishment, and even be thrown in the swimming pool and be no worse for wear.

But my prediction is they'll be on clearance sometime before September and you'll be able to pick them up for under $100.

  • I bought my gf the UE Boom 2 for xmas and was impressed with everything aside from the bass. Used the app equalizer to boost bass while bringing down the mid and treble a little and it sounded much better. I liked the quality of it so much I bought myself the megaboom a few months later and, after a fidget with the equalizer, I'd give it 5 stars. Love the sound, love the ruggedness, love the look, love the battery life, but most of all I love being able to turn the speaker on before I even get out of bed or know where in the house I left it.

  • I think the price is gone.
    its back to EUR 124.66
