We want Xiaomi 17 pro max!!!!

    • +1

      exactly

    • +6

Amazing design! Apple would take years to catch up.

    • +1

And the naming conventions sound exactly like an Apple one too lol

      • +2

        Nobody's gonna know ;)

      • +3

Apparently the marketing strategy is to get people into thinking it's an 'Apple knockoff', but be pleasantly surprised at the innovation and quality.

        • First of all I won't call it a knock off.
But let's assume it's a knock off, they have done it bloody well and better than Apple.

          • +1

@Oh Daddy: That's the idea. They deliberately chose the name to make people think it's a knockoff, and coincided the launch straight after Apple.

    • +2

Bigger battery and lighter weight https://youtu.be/0jHtyF_rCqU?si=7cs-K1f37Lh0YqT8

    • Next year hopefully

We want Xiaomi 17 pro max!!!!

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FE6yES4dzHY

    • Glad to others are looking into the 17 pro max.
Need a geekwills deal to come in.
$1600 for 17 pro max is still a good deal tho

  • +1

Just registered, seem like a good price.

  • +5

That is a lot of phone

  • +3

Hope they bring in the poco brand too, officially.
    and their 17 series

  • +4

    Where is Xiaomi 17?

  • +1

Finally and Xiaomi 15 and 15T is also listed. I have high hopes that the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra will be launched locally.

    • +3

Eventually… when stock levels recover maybe. Apparently they out of stock or something.

    • +9

Dimensity is awesome. 9400 is ranked 5th.

      • They don't mean the Dimensity. They mean the Helio G chips. Which is true.

    • +18

Clearly you people have no understanding about how good Dimensity 9400 series is. Much better battery life, and run cooler than the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Also the CPU and GPU performance is on par and at times better.

    • +16

It's not 2019 anymore. Mediatek flagships are just as good as Snapdragon ones. 9400+ and 8Elite are extremely close

      • It might be superior but I've had nothing but issues with mediatek when running custom software compared to SD.

        • +4

not like you can run custom ROMs on Xiaomi phones anymore. Basically impossible to unlock bootloader these days

          • @maimai: Not impossible but it's like a weeklong process and VERY difficult to get through.

            • @Ryugen: Hasn't it always been a 7 day wait? Thought the current issue is they've turned it into a lottery or something now?

    • +5

I used to avoid Mediatek having had awful experiences. These days, whether Snapdragon, Tensor or Mediatek I don't really notice the difference in day to day. Maybe if i gamed on my phone and used specific apps that rely on Snapdragon based drivers, but I don't.

    • I don't know why you got negged, because for me, Mediatek is not always preferred because they don't release their sources, and it's harder to find custom ROMs for phones with Mediatek.

      PS:
      I did not neg you.

      • Because people are thinking MediaTek= Dimensity when MediaTek also Helio G.

  • The Redmi Pad 2 is a budget friendly tablet

That's probably referring to deals like this so value to take into account is ~$245 for ozbargainers

  • +2

With the whole bs of network carriers blacklisting volte on some device, what's been the experience of most people here buying xiaomis through authorised Aus distributors?

    • +2

I've had several Xiaomi's over the past 3 years. All bought from overseas, global roms. Everything works, including volte and Google Pay.
Fantastic phones for the price and I can't believe the price of this deal!

I don't rate the watches though, get the Huawei GT5 instead.

      • Thanks for that, which provider are you with?

        • Optus

  • Pre registered and very much considering this deal for the wife. I am personally waiting to see if Xiaomi will launch th 17 pro max here.

  • +5

    I need su7!

    • +1

      Ultra!

    • while I love Xiaomi product in general, still not confident in their EV yet…

      https://carnewschina.com/2025/04/01/first-fatal-accident-inv…

      • +1

According to Xiaomi’s statement, the vehicle—a standard version SU7—was traveling at 116 km/h in NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) intelligent driving assistance mode when it approached a construction zone. The lane was closed with barriers, diverting traffic to the opposite lane. The system detected the obstacle, issued an alert, and began decelerating. The driver then took manual control, continued braking and steering, but ultimately collided with a concrete barrier post at an estimated 97 km/h speed.

Reading the whole article helps… in general.

        • +1

the system did not detect the obstacle until 2 seconds from the barrier, its not because of driver taken control that cause the crash

and most importantly, while xiaomi claim they have designed the mechanical handle to open the door during electronic failure, in reality both driver / passengers (from internal) and fireman (from external) has no clue how to open the door, causing the entire car totally burnt out

          • @littlesoldier: Mate, apply simple logic, something is bound to go wrong when you allow a robot to drive at 116 km/h.

            • @tightm8: in China freeway has a speed limit of 120km/h, 116km/h is not even speeding / catch fine

              • @littlesoldier: I don't think you're registering what I'm saying. Asking a robot to drive at that speed is asking for trouble, especially with the early stage nature of that tech. The brand of the car, or EV/Petrol nature of it is irrelevant.

I would personally never allow the car to drive on its own at that speed, and ask a 100 people, i'd say easily over 90 would say the same.

People don't buy EV's for the self driving tech, they buy it for the other stuff.

            • @tightm8:

Mate, apply simple logic, something is bound to go wrong when you allow a robot to drive at 116 km/h.

So you agree the autopilot tech is not there yet, which was the original statement that you opposed.

Based on the little information and the incident log provided, the autopilot should've detected road speed signage warning drivers to slow down due to construction works, which is what you would expect a driver to see and process the signage if they were in control of the vehicle.

So either the autopilot missed the signage, or worse, there was no signage in which case even if the driver was in control, they would have probably crashed.

Either way, 2 seconds warning is ridiculous and inadequate when travelling at 116kph. How is a driver even allowed to turn on autopilot in such risky situations where you only get 2 seconds to react to an obstacle?

              • 10:27:17 PM: NOA activated, vehicle speed at 116 km/h
              • 10:28:17 PM: Mild distraction warning issued
              • 10:36:48 PM: NOA issued hands-off warning: “Please hold the steering wheel”
              • 10:44:24 PM: NOA issued risk warning: “Please note obstacle ahead,” with deceleration request
              • 10:44:25 PM: Driver took over from NOA, entering manual driving mode, steering wheel turned 22.0625 degrees left, brake pedal pressed 31%
              • 10:44:26 PM: Steering wheel turned 1.0625 degrees right, brake pedal pressed 38%
              • Between 10:44:26–28: Vehicle collided with concrete barrier
              • 10:44:28 PM: Vehicle eCall triggered
              • 10:44:39 PM: eCall connected, accident confirmed, police and emergency services contacted
              • 10:45:06 PM: Contact established with vehicle owner, confirming non-owner was driving
              • 10:47:15 PM: Emergency medical services successfully dispatched
              • Approximately 11:00 PM: Emergency services arrived at the scene
  • So these phones will have Google Play store?

    • +7

100% - these are amazing phones and tablets (long time user). There are usually a China version and a global version of basically the same hardware (sometimes with small differences) but they generally called differently. Anything sold in AU should have a model number of G at the end (Global) - they also have India models which end with an I.

Currently have 2 tablets (Redmi Pad and Xiaomi Tab 6) and 2 x X6 Pro - only one of these 4 devices has a Snapdragon chip set and they all get monthly updates with latest security features. Personally I don't buy MediaTek VS Snapdragon stuff in 2025 - even the google TV 4k Streamer uses MediaTek.

      Playstore just works

    • +20

No because it's iPhone? Do we really need to explain why people prefer Android over iOS and vice versa? You can't compare them.

    • +2

If you're into Apple it's a good deal for you. If not then no, it is nowhere near a better deal

    • +1

That 2y phone is worse than 3y S23 Ultra with 12GB RAM for much better AI, S-pen, 200MP 10x zoom, etc. Don't try to compare closed system with flexible one that has better hardware.

  • -1

Would volte and vowifi be supported on major networks?

  • -2

Bad deal. This isn't even the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max and they're trying to sell a Xiaomi 15T Pro for $1.1k? Don't make me laugh.

  • +1

comrads, my xiaomi pro 11, which is better than my current s24, and only a year old, was blacklisted by aus government. Just be wary of owning international phones

    • +8

Overseas phones that didn't support Aus emergency services in the 2023 3g shutdown were banned. This mostly impacted imported phones rather than locally sold ones. I highly doubt newer phone, especially those sold here, will suffer this issue.

  • Didn't even realise Xiaomi had an Australia online store.

    • +1

That's because it's just been launched, hence these deals.

    • +3

      Literally first sentence lol

Xiaomi has just launched their first ever Australia website

  • +9

Great to see Xiaomi expand into Aus seriously; hope it provides some $1000~ competition and a 'budget' flagship compared to Google/Samsungs prices

    • Lol fat chance at $1k. I know OzB glazes on Chinese sellers but nah.

  • +1

The Watch S4 models supports NFC payments in Aus? That's a win

No mention if it though on the Smart Band 10 :/

  • I want the Xiaomi 17 Pro (6.3")

  • +2

Need Xiaomi 17 Pro or Ultra when it comes out!

  • +1

    Has their UI improved?

Has the amount of god awful bloatware subsided?

Still have a working Mi 9T Pro, good phone back in the day 😀, UI was 'okay', bloat that you can't delete/uninstall was off the chart! Won't return until I have freedom to remove unwanted apps.

    • +1

9T Pro is MIUI I believe, while this is HyperOS so there's certainly differences.

When it comes to debloating in general you're best bet is using the Universal Debloat on GitHub. Non-root and ADB so it can clear a lot.

      • Thanks.

The short answer is, No. Without installing another app or package I don't want is the only way to remove bloat.

If it's not a function I can do natively, then I'll pass.

  • +2

Need to bring the YU7 or SU7 ultra!

  • I thought Xiaomi smartphone has gone to 17 already

  • +1

Xiaomi hardware is awesome though their HyperOs makes me look elsewhere.. used to root to get around it though now too hard to use Wallet and the like

    • HyperOS/MiUI is fine on its own. It's the rooting that's become unreliable over the years, with chances of bricking now higher than before.

      • Bricking isn't really an issue, just that it's basically impossible to unlock bootloader now on Xiaomi phones

        • +2

Xiaomi really dropping the ball yet expecting premium pricing.

        • Doesn't it still take 1+ week to wait for bootloader unlock?

          • @whyisave: nah you need to apply for it now through the Xiaomi community app, really annoying since it only lets a limited number of users get an unlock per day so you have to come back on at 3 am otherwise you will likely miss it.

  • Away from the phones, what do people think of the luggage

  • +5

My Xiaomi 9T was the best phone I have ever owned, can't use for work anymore due to age but still use for a few apps and overseas VPN. Very tempting

    • +1

Check out the Poco series phones, eg. F5, F6, etc.

      They're pretty good too.

    • Used K20 Pro (renamed variant) I really miss it to this day. The pop up camera, full screen display. It was way ahead of time.

  • Can you stack coupons?

  • -1

Not good for instagram or cameras

  • -2

Pretty good deal, but I would feel like a sucker buying their old products they want to clear when they don't even offer us the 17.

    • +4

15T and 15T Pro were released globally last week, so not sure why you are implying old products?
17 series was also launched last week albeit only in China. Global release for Xiaomi 17 will happen in early Jan 2025 potentially and its been widely said that the 17 Pro and Pro Max are only meant for China and globally only the 17 base version will be released. We will potentially see 17 Ultra Globally, but in and around March or April.

      • +1

        *2026

      • I remember when the 'T' models were actually budget.

  • Can I access Chinese Mi AppStore and Google Play with this phone? I need both Australian and Chinese apps.

    • No, Xiaomi appstore is only on Chinese models

      • Unless I misunderstood the question, Mi App Mall/Get Apps is on my phone - global rom.

        • Not the Chinese one with Chinese apps

  • Hi guys, I registered as well. Just not sure regarding the $100 coupon - 'bonus storage upgrade from 256GB to 512GB (by applying a $100 launch coupon to be provided later on 10/10)'? Thanks for any help, cheers

    • The $100 coupon will be available on 10/10/25 for you to apply at checkout. The coupon will show on the landing page and updated on this OzBargain post.

      • +1

I see, just so simple then, thanks very much and enjoy your day!

  • Reminds me of oppo x5 pro deal with the tablet

  • I'm also waiting for the 17Pro, would be great if Xiaomi is also doing a fantastic deal to launch their Australian shop.

  • Nothing phones are more better values for money, e.g. Nothing Phone 3a.
