Are You on Exetel Opticomm?

Are you also using Exetel ISP for xiaomi tv china video streaming?

about 6 months ago i made a call to "upgrade" my plan from 200GB to 500GB, without knowing it is now taking both download and upload.

speed was fine before the change, i can watch xiaomi tv box without lag on any CCTV channel throughout the day. after the change my xiaomi tv box is now almost useless with lag every 10 secs or so.

are you experiencing the same issue? are you using other isp for china video streaming?

thanks.

  • I'm a new exetel user, don't use it for Chinese tv, but I regret exetel, so crap, want to move to tpg now.

    • We're also new to Exetel 2.5months. apart from poor customer service and staff not living up promise on promotions when sign up. our service is fine NBN $59.99/m 500MB + VOIP so far…

which plan you on? whats your unhappy experience with them? so we can aware

      • I just realised how long my post is so the TLDR is:
It's all pretty much bad service, worst than most cheapo ISPs, and I;ve been with a few.

So signed up, was told online 8-10 business days. This is important as I wanted to keep my existing number and therefore I needed to keep my other provider active. My other provider, like most, require 30 days notice. So I don't want to over pay so I decided to cancel with 15 days left. Now surely, given someone wants to give a company money they can be prompt about it. But after 10 days, of signing up online and no word, I decided to call them and was told it would take a further 10 days. So a further 30 days extention of prior ISP required. Ok, so not off to a great start but that's ok.

Next up, My phone was fuzzy with them, and reduced my ADSL speed. SO I call up and need them to send out a technician to fix. But Because my phone is fuzzy, I have to use my mobile, now they don't have a call back service, that most ISP (TPG, Spintel, etc) seem to have, which seems pretty standard, so had to call with mobile and fork out the mobile cost, whatever, once i'll get hold of them I'll just ask them to call me back so i'll only wait for the queue time. So after the customary 30ish mins, I was told on the phone the CSR wont call me back after explaining my phone is fuzzy and mobile is expensive. He was happy to call my home phone to test if it rings and how I sound when I pick up (but being fuzzy not possible to converse), but wasn't happy to call my mobile at my request. Pretty simple customer service request really.

Ok after this pretty unfortunate start, and frustrating phone call, I was told they would need to send out a tech and they would keep me in touch.
After 2 days, I got some SMS from them saying they understand I have a fault and they are investigating. After another they sent me SMS asking me to call them back, or else my fault will be closed. After calling them again (usual inconvenience) I was shocked to need to explain myself ALL OVER AGAIN, like I never made my first phone call.
Again I was told to wait, and they will organise a tech.
After 2 weeks nothing happened. No one ever came, and no one from exetel called me back.

I actually gave it a break and tried again the next month, this time when I called and reported my problem the CSR was competent. A tech was sent, the only problem was, I specifically asked:
        Who will contact me?
        when they will contact me?
If I'm not contacted what can I do?
and what happens if I'm not available during the time?

To cut it short, I got little details other than I will be contacted.

2 days (Australia Day) later a tech just knocked on my door out of the blue, no contact prior or any communication.

although I'm grateful someone actually came, If I hadn't been home on Australia day, I would have been charged a call out fee for not being home. $250.
3 hours AFTER the guy fixed my line, I get a SMS from exetel telling me someone may come in the next 2 days. :S

I have other gripes, you can find them on whirlpool. But I'm generally critical of them now on forums till they actually became less sub standard.

        • Thanks for the input. I did read the whole thing!

yeah, their customer service is pathetic and aren't trustworthy. can only hope no issue that we don't need to call up exetel for support cos basically they offer very little or very poor. communication also a challenge as their english is poor

we don't have problem with our VOIP phone just yet like yours but sometime we get line cut off for no reasons. did they paid you for call out technician or you paid? did you counter problems on internet surfing? we have drop outs time to time but can tolerate.

who you decide to go for if leaving exetel when you fed up? not sure we need to plan ahead for that.

        • @leehungfei:

Because we were fortunately at home, there would be no chance of a unattended call out fee, so nothing was charged. I do wonder what would have happened if I weren't home. Coz as I said, I wasn't notified of a time/day so it wouldn't be right to charge me, but who knows.

I did suffer very bad internet, but that was due to the phone line. Now I only occasionally experience drop outs. Not very often.

I'm hoping NBN would be ready when my exetel contract comes up, and i'll move to IInet or TPG most likely, given the size of them they don't actually get that many bad reviews, plus they are one of the few providers that control their own back haul, giving them greater line of sight of issues when there is, so you have a stronger argument when issues arise.

  • @jeff9999, can i ask if you're using the chinese version or international version of xiaomi box? Do you know if either version supports chinese channel or do i need the chinese version of xiaomi box to do that? If i require the chinese version, do you know of any roots available to enable english/youtube? I think i found one but it only works for older firmwares.

    • Hi Kyoba, i am using a paid version of TV streaming software. its 50usd for 365 days, works well except the the isp and peak time is a problem.

  • I am using Extel on Opticomm in Victoria and i have had no issues so far besides the few total break downs. Currently on a 100/40 unlimited plan and have had all the time at least 60/30 available when running speedtest.
