  • Wow, that is a good price, but the reviews of phonebot.com.au are the scary part for that kind of spending money, but good price OP.

hi, can you please link to reviews. ill forward it to my manager. we have hardly any neg reviews on google though

        • +13

hmm i need to get on top of these reviews now.
You know if you look us on google, we have over 40 plus reviews and from our stores and online we interact with almost 50+ happy customers everyday and i admit sometimes unfavorable or ackward situations like those mentioned in reviews (Zagg faulty keyboards and voda activation sims) are unavoidable. But we try our best to resolve each complaint and in no way it represents our business.

As for ozbargain, i have been posting over 2 years and heaps of customers have bought from us. If you have any issues, you can pm me and i personally try and resolve it

        • @erroorfree: hi not a customer but +1 for this

  • So it costs more to pick it up with cash?

    • Think so

      • sorry just edited :)

Any reason why you wouldn't get the Core M Surface Pro 4 for $698 at Harvey Norman instead? Add in a type cover (~$140 on ebay/amazon).

    • Honestly, It's probably a better buy. Personally the thing I find completely crazy with the sp4 is the use of a propriety charger. If the sp4 used type c for charging it would be perfect.

    • I've done just that myself. However, in addition to the included keyboard, this Samsung also has 4G cellular data connectivity, which is a bonus for some.

  • Is there anywhere that can price match on this tab pro s I wonder?

  • Got any white ones?

    • no sorry. only in black

  • Oh god, I dont know whether to get the SP4 or Galaxy Tab S2 - or this…

If you're in between those 2 devices I'd say this one fits the bill.

This one has LTE 4G built in. Grab a $25 8GB SIM from Vodafone and whack it in for direct Internet access on the go.

  • It is my understanding that this device uses the only USB Type C port for charging so if you are charging it you can't use the port for your USB device.

You need a USB-C hub that will split into more USB ports, HDMI out and even Network. It will charge as well.

Compared to the SP4 the cons of this device:
Lack of ports…sp4 has usb and mini DP plus the charger has its own
Screen is AMOLED and will eventually get burn in, esp at the taskbar area
Samsung's pen is not as good as surface pen

    Pros:
    Keyboard included
    Lighter
    4g

    • I think the screen looks a lot nicer.

By the time you get burn in, you will be on your new device anyway.

Plasma TVs are meant to have burn in, but I've had mine for over 10 years, and no burn in. And it gets a lot of use.

The Pro S has software built in that dims your screen after inactivity. If you really are paranoid about burn in, make your wallpaper black (like those with non-legit windows), have the task bar hide automatically unless you move your cursor over it, have a black screen saver on a short timer (effectively shutting off the screen).

It's much better for viewing movies in OLEd. And the resolution is slightly lesser than SP4, so unscaled 1080p movies fill up more of the screen and don't look as small. Expanded to full screen there is less scaling.

Only premium devices get an OLED screen. It's a pro, not a con.

Another pro is that it's more lap friendly than the SP4 due to lack of a kick stand.

      • Samsung has admitted that Burn-in a real issue because of the static taskbar…and the SP4 doesn't need an unwieldy dongle hanging out the side to be able to charge and plug in a USB simultaneously…and the Pen for this device is nowhere near as accurate as the active digitiser pen you can get for the surface.

And OLED is nowhere near as bright as LCD for use in brightly lit environments…

        • It's up to you whether these things are deal breakers. For me they aren't. I don't charge and use USB at the same time. I only charge when I'm not using it, since the battery lasts long enough for a session. YMMV. If you've already got a power cable plugged into your tablet at the wall, you really don't have much to complain about dangling when using USB with power. That power brick is already dragging it down weight wise. The power connector is also very loose on the SP4 btw (compared to a USB slot) and easy to accidentally disconnect (has happened when I left it charging, only to realize it stopped charging ages ago). You also can't charge it with a power bank. You are right that the TPS could have used an extra USB port though.

The taskbar is mostly black and can be hidden.

It's bright enough in brightly lit environments for me. Even with the SP4 I use it on 50% brightness anyway (way too bright otherwise and drains too much energy). Even at 50% the battery life is terrible. I have not tried seeing how long it lasts at 100%.

Samsung is continuing to use OLED screens for the next version of this device (despite the static taskbar) as well as their flagship Android tabs and phones, so I doubt they see it as a big enough issue to deter them from selling it or people from buying it. There's burn in on OLED screens but unless it's a display unit at Harvey Norman, the issue is blown way out of proportion. TVs have channel logos which are also static, and I don't have a single burn in on my TV. It's been on all day for over 10 years.

The scaling of W10 on both devices is poor, but the higher ppi in the SP4 makes it even worse.

I don't own the Samsung pen so I can't comment on it. I don't use the pen on the SP4 either. I prefer having an included keyboard cover that is also lap friendly and doesn't cost $150+ extra.

Where the SP4 wins out is the option to get i5 and i7 CPUs, though they cost considerably more and have noisy fans. For my uses (Which is light use) the Core M3 is adequate.

    • "Samsung's pen is not as good as surface pen"

      According to http://www.samsung.com/au/windows-tablets/galaxy-tabpro-s-12…

This one does not support S-Pen?

Can anyone confirm? My wife who lectures at uni and marks pdf submitted papers would definitely need a pen.

I hadn't considered this device as it apparently does not support s-pen….but if it does….

      • it doesn't support S-pen, but there's the Samsung C-Pen for the device (re-branded Wacom basically)
        Check here

  • can this make calls like a regular 4g android tablet, from the p1000 all the way to TAB s2
