Help Accidentally Used Organic Weed Spray by Yates!

I accidentally sprayed a lot of Yates organic weed killer instead of insect spray onto my strawberry plant the leaves seems to be going thin and brown, how can I stop this? Also the friuits are becoming soft!? I managed to wash off the stuff with some water but under the plant most of the leaves are dead, it's been couple of hours till I found out!

i've used that undeadner a heap of times.
I usually forget to water pot-plants and they are all dry and brown. water some undeadner in and a few days later they are all green again.

Sorry but it's dead. No undoing

The strawberries will rise as Undead Strawberryman and throttle you in your sleep as revenge.

Serious OP, you cannot remove the chemicals from the plant once it's absorbed it. The leaves absorb the chemicals and the chemicals start doing it's work once it enters the sap stream. Looking at type of weed killer you used, according to Yates' website it's non selective meaning it destroys anything it touches.

Na serious guys it's first time Iv successfully grown something and successfully killed it as well.

    • It's dead. The chemicals in it attacks the plants photo systhisis ability. This starves it if live and it is dead. It's like popping cherries. Once popped it cannot be unpopped..

Sorry mate, there's no saving it.
What you did is all you can do to help, wash it with water… but if it's dying already it's too late.
Head to Bunnings and buy some more plants.

And mark the weed killer with a big x or a tag so you won't grab it by accident again.

time to goto woolies and buy some, which were picked by the last group of 457 visa holders in AUS

You can't eat the fruit anyway. Just because the weed killer is organic doesn't mean it's edible. Start again.

Update: 8hours ago rinsed the plant heaps with water and added heaps plant food which is soil conditioner that also has nitrogen. The plant seems to be struggling but getting by,

Parts of the leaves seem to be getting weak with black parts and breaking off.

    • Just buy your strawberries from the supermarket like everybody else does. Why are you so attached to a plant?

Just plant another one if you want home grown food.

      • Strawberries from the supermarket are horrid. My understanding is they're picked too early. Very sour, lots of green bits. Unfortunately around me there doesn't seem to be anywhere to buy decent strawberries. Still, there may be some other strawberry supplier somewhere near OP. Maybe someone else growing strawberries in their yard, who didn't kill theirs, that OP can borrow some from. Or perhaps a fruit shop or market that sells okay ones.

        • I've had some from the supermarket that taste fine

    • +1

      They look fine, great work!

    • +2

It doesn't look as bad as you described. Looks ok to me.
But buy another plant and put it in a seperate pot. That way you have one if it dies or even better if it survives you have a mini strawberry farm.

I think that stuff takes a lot longer to turn the leaves green than 8 hours.

You shoulda changed their soil straight away but I guess that's too late.

Maybe water the (profanity) out of them

  • +2

    OP do you have children?

  • My cat loves it when I put in a new plant - the "dug over" dirt makes it much easier for her to dig her hole. The strawberries get covered in dirt and I'm not sure I want to eat them after that anyway. However, it does provide the plant with some additional fertilizer.

    • Bit of extra flavour lulz

      • Can't see it replacing strawberries and cream at Wimbledon.

This is ozbargain, so he's obviously running the 'free' version which does not have undo, that's a paid version feature!

Yeah, I "Accidentally Used Organic Weed" once too.. oh wait, yeah that's different… sorry.

  • He's dead Jim.

  • I wouldn't feel so bad about a strawberry plant.
I know someone who thought they were using "Weed and Feed" on a large area of relatively new lawn. They were actually using Glyphosate. Lawn went from lush green to brown in no time.

Even if you could/did save the plant- I don't know if that would really be safe to eat
