Are these worthy of me using what little points I have?

    • +6

      Just no.

If you don't have the points and don't fly that frequently, it's not worth it. It's to speed up check-in.

If you're Bronze QFF member then by definition you don't fly frequently and they try to sell these to you knowing that there's little benefit to you.

If you fly frequently then you wouldn't be still stuck at Bronze. Silver and above get sent 2 free Q tags each time they move up one level (ie. when you go from Silver to Gold you get another 2 free Q tags). So there's no need to buy.

Agree. If you're not flying Qantas, other airlines will tell you to remove it. Virgin domestic and Emirates international did.

          @Wantone:

Interesting. I have Qantas Gold ones on a case I regularly fly with, though usually I fly Virgin (VA Plat) and they've never told me to take them off.

        • @Wantone:

Don't see why other airlines would care, it would just be like any other bag tag to them? In any case I've had no issues with American Airlines, United Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Air India or Emirates check-in. I'm sure others have check into many more airlines with these tags on.

        • I didn't understand it either or why it was a big deal. The Emirates lady at the line up area for check-in said it in a demanding voice too! Virgin was at the check-in counter, but she was nice.
Well..back on it goes, what's the point reaching Gold status when you can't show it off right lol.

    Product information
The Q Bag Tag is a permanent bag tag that allows you to check-in your baggage easily when flying within the Qantas domestic network and eliminates the need for a paper bag tag, streamlining your journey through the domestic terminal.

Designed by world-renowned Australian designer Marc Newson, each tag contains world-first technology that synchronises the flight details on your boarding pass or Qantas card with your baggage. The Q Bag Tag does not store any personal information. Space has been provided for you to write personal contact information, if you choose.

    Features:

RFID technology embedded in a durable hard plastic disc
    Soft rubber outer ring
An elastic cord to enable easy application to your luggage handle

There is a kettle designed by Marc Newson that is also on Sale at Myers. Seems like everything this guy designs goes on sale!

  • I expect these are free of charge, especially it has Qantas's logo on it! I guess we have to pay for anything in Australia! and pay more than getting from overseas for "Made in Australia" products! How bizarre!

  • Roughly $12 for a tag… I rarely fly once a year on Qantas, so I will let the checkin counter print the tag

I have been advised by Qantas staff at check in that if you are transferring from one flight to another then it is best to use the paper tags than the Q-Tags. Apparently the visual on the paper tag makes it easier for the baggage guys to identify which plane your bag needs to be transferred and eliminates risk of getting lost. One leg flights are obviously fine for Q-Tags.
