HTC Desire 320 3G Phone Will Not Work on Telstra Network

I recently purchased an HTC Desire 320 3G phone - Vodafone Locked from Woolworths.
I purchased an unlock code which worked, but when I try to use a Telstra SIM to make a call it says - 'Not registered on network.'
Is there any way to get this phone to work on the Telstra Network?

Thanks.

HTC320 only works on 3G 900MHz or 2100MHz networks. But Telstra running on 3G 850MHz network. So this phone is hardware incompatible to Telstra and its dealers sim and no way to make it work. If you want to use Telstra sim, please do study to make sure the phone you prefer is 3G 850MHz compatible before buy it. Again 3G 850MHz is a must have to use Telstra sim, NO exceptions.
Also because Telstra still sitting its voice function on 3G, but not 4G, so even you have a Telstra 4G compatible phone, you still cannot make a phone call if it lacks 3G 850MHz.

    • Yes. Telstra recently shut down its 2100 network. Very bad move really since 2100 is an internationally used 3G band. Tourists coming to Oz will be pissed that their 2100 3G enabled phone wont work with Telstra. Its no wonder Telstra shares are crashing. they have lost the plot. Use Vodafone instead

  • That makes sense, thanks for your response, much appreciated. :)

Telstra also runs 3G 2100Mhz. Unless you are in a remote location, it should still work. Maybe your unlock code didnt work?

Did you manage to test an optus sim?

    • Hmmm… interesting. Unfortunately, I don't have an Optus sim to test with, but I'm pretty sure it's unlocked because before I entered the unlock code, the phone wouldn't do anything at all with the Telstra sim in it.
According to tramperleo's comment above, you have to have Telstra 3G 850MHz network compatibility (which said phone is lacking) to be able to use a Telstra sim at all, so if this is the case, the 3G 2100MHz is of no use without it.

      • You don't need 850 to work on Telstra. But 2100 coverage is poor in comparison. As you don't have reception, you don't have 2100 coverage in your area. For Telstra you really should have 850. Any phone i buy will always at least have 850, 900, and 2100 MHz 3g. Then you are good on any network.

Have you tried setting the Preferred Network to 3G?
Check whether you have coverage at https://oztowers.com.au/Home/Query?filter=a%3D1%2Cp%3DTelstr…

    • That explains it. No 3G 2100MHz coverage from Telstra within range at the moment.
Thanks for the link, very helpful.

  • how much did you pay to get it unlocked? if you're unlock code didn't work, you'd better get a refund! you may have gotten ripped off my friend… LOL

    • I only paid a couple of dollars, so no great loss if it didn't work. But it's no longer insisting on a code when I put the Telstra sim in, so I am pretty sure it's unlocked. I'll pick up an Optus sim tomorrow to find out for sure.

OP should do his research next time instead of wasting everyones time here

  • Check out Virgin or Optus frequencies, may work on their networks.
