Fisher & Paykel 5kg Vented Dryer $338 or with 6 Year Warranty ($440) @ Harvey Norman

191

There online price is different to their in-store price which is listed as $338. The Dryer comes with 2 year standard warranty, and was able to add an additional 4 years with Product Care for a total of $440.

Thought I would share. Cheers.

  • Funny you posted this as I was looking at dryers today…. and as wall mountable dryers with panels that can turn over are limited I was not happy to read the reviews on it….

Aldi has a 4.5kg dryer on sale for 199
If you are not so brand conscious…. i would recommmend that
Included in the price is a 3yr in home warranty

  • Thanks. Is this wall mountable and is 5kg enough?

    • yes wall mountable and the front panel is reversible so it can be read upside down

  • Thanks, just saw your comment right after i posted.
I read through your links as well, which review were you not happy with? Overall review was quite positive except for thr vrry first one "dont buy this"

    • There is a few that rate it higher but also seem to have the same concerns about and error 4 or something…..

Im still going to get one but will get the 4yr extra like the OP….

  • Just checked price hipster. Seems like online price is 399

    • Added a link to my receipt. In store they had it at $338. And I also got him to take a few dollars off the Product Care.

    Nice find Op!

  • What's wrong with putting your clothes outside?

    • +4

Nothing. Just some of us like the convienance of being able to dry our cloths when its not sunny outside :)

      • +4

being able to dry our cloths

        thanks Tarzan…

    • The graphics outside are terrible though, don't you read the T-shirts :) ?.

    • Nothing!

But when you have kids and they might wet their bed during the night you can't always dry the sheets in one day during winter!

    • Kinda of hard during winter when it rains nearly every day

    • Come down to Melb and we'll show you.

But I suppose if you don't mind wet, smokey, melted plastic & bird poo look.

FYI - Appliance Online has the same model for $396 at the moment. More expensive than the in-store price that OP has posted ($338) but may work out cheaper for some as Aplliance online does free delivery and installation to metro areas.

    • Thanks for the tip. Does installation include wall mounting? I have this empty space with steel frames that the previous owner left behind as they took their dryer with them.

      • Not sure about wall mounting. Give them a call or live chat.

    • It might.

But when bundled with Product Care I get 6 years support, after the 2 years normal warranty the 4 year product care kicks in which includes unlimited repairs and also a replacement option if you don't want to deal with a repair.

      • +2

I think you might have fallen for the sales pitch

        • +4

I agree. Appreciate the info and effort OP, but I wouldn't pay for additional warranty.

If I had a major appliance cark it after four years I'd exercise my statutory warranty rights under Australian consumer law. Sounds complicated but the conversation goes like this (and I've never lost this one):
Them: "I'm sorry, but the warranty on that appliance was only two years"
Me: "I understand, however a four hundred dollar appliance should be reasonably expected to last longer, wouldn't you agree?"
Them: "Yes, but that's our policy."
Me: "I see. May I have your first and last name please? I just want to ensure I have a record of who told me your company policy negates my statutory warranty rights as an Australian consumer."

Of course they could stand their ground. For some reason though they never have. I think it's the part where they agreed with you that you should expect better. They've almost agreed to SW at that point.

        • I never buy these warranties. That's where the store makes money so they love to push it.

If the goods are going to fail from poor manufacture or a faulty part they "should" suffer within the manufacturer's warranty period.

If it gets beyond that without a hitch chances are it will kick along for some time - or at least until you start to notice a few grey hairs.

Personally, I'd save the $100 and roll the dice later if repairs are needed some time yonder!

        • +3

@MattyD: To be honest I actually am not sure a $400 appliance would be reasonably expected to last 6 years (as per op's warranty).

        • +1

          @seanbaussie:

yeh im pretty sure there is no chance at 6 years a court would back him on that , i would say even 4 years you would have no chance…$338 is a cheap dryer

      • Most common fault on these dryers is that they fail to start when you put a load of clothes in them. A 7uF capacitor from eBay for $12 fixes that problem.

No need to pay for extended warranty on something this simple.

        • My previous dryer had that issue but a new capacitor didn't work. It was the motor.

  • Was looking at ordering this recently so thanks :)

  • +1

How much extra $ to the power bill will this create?

    • Rough estimate about 50c per load.

      Assumes 2400w for 45 min at 30c/kwh.

      • Only a heat pump would be 50c per load… a vented dryer would always be over 90c a load. Around 21c per kg of clothes.

A heat pump would be around 6-8 star energy rating, vented would be 2-3 star.

        • What calculation are you using? Or do you work at Harvey Norman?

        • @LoopyLou:

Choice do all the testing. They connect up the dryers to actually see how much power they pull and do the calculations excluding any washing powder etc.

I also have several insiders in harvey norman. So know a lot about appliances, which to get which not to get etc. Some vented dryers have $2500 running costs over 10 years.

Keep in mind the star ratings are estimated that you use the dryer 1 time per week. 3.33kWh this dryer uses the cycle time is 125 mins. So it uses 6.66kwh (just over this) for a complete cycle. Find your electricity bill and do the sums..
          Energy KwH x 6.6 =

Energy rates vary per state, per street per area + discounts / concessions.

We use our dryer up to 4 times a day!

  • We just purchased a new dryer.. went from vented to heat pump.

Running cost on this fisher and paykel is 21c per 1kg clothes, so around $1.05 per load.

    Compare to a heat pump:

    Price $2199
    Brand Miele
    Model TKB350WP
    Recommended Yes
    Type Heat pump
    Capacity (kg) 8
Running cost over 10 years $637
Cost to dry 1kg of items $0.12

Half the running cost. Spend the running cost now and you can get a GOOD dryer with larger capacity better quality components and trust me, the frgrance flacards on miele are bloody fantastic!!!!!!!! The smell of your clothes you will fall in love with! Miele is miele and the rest of the brands aren't close.

    • I agree that 10 years runnimg cost ia a reasinable comparison. But if you are using the dryer as often as the running cost calculations, it will not make sense to go for the more expensive Miele even if you got its price down to $1500.

      F&P: $440 + $1249 = $1689
      Miele: $1500 + $637 = $2137

      • Youre forgetting that 10 year comparison is using your dryer 1 time per week during off peak energy.

We use our dryer sometimes up to 4 times a day!!

        • I'm not forgetting that. It's true that high usage can make a big difference. You would need more than double the amount used in computing the comparison costs.

If you're using it four times a day, solar may save you a lot of money. Ten times a week would cost you well over $6000 over ten years.

        • @twocsies:

But dont forget heat pump dryers are 8-10kg capacity. So generally people would do less loads. So that would half the cost.

        • @neofelis:
could get solar panels, and stored battery cells, and it would have nil financial impact regardless of vented or heat pump, (opportunity cost maybe, that you could have used solar power on something else).

  • Damn bought this exact same model from appliance online ebay about 2-3 weeks ago…
Paid about $390ish after the 5% discount :(

Negging as receipt does not show the discounted price, online does not show the price.. and in store they refuse to match it. ($338). Where is the proof?

    • That sucks. Feel free to expire the deal.

  • Spoke to the store of purchase (Erina). Refused to honour $338 price, could not see any reference to this price on the sytem, even when giving receipt that was posted.

Would recommend marking this deal as expired.
