      • Except the front screen hasn't broken in the time I've had it. Make just a fluke, but I think the rear glass is more delicate.

Btw, if you don't have a case for a while… stick some tape or something on the back. The rear of the phone is so slippery that it will walk itself off a table, even if it's a seemingly flat surface. For the life of me I had sometimes felt like the phone was trying to commit suicide when I wasn't looking at it.

  • (and no it isn't the latest Samsung)

    Huh ?

I just bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. I was considering this phone over the Xiaomi the last time it was on sale, I choose the Xiaomi for its battery life and metal body. Though I was geeked out about the specs for its price.

PS. Excellent first post OP, and welcome to Ozbargain :D

as owner of an Lenovo non moto based phone, I would tell you their whole eco system was in chaos back in 2016 when this device was launched. The company finally got to their senses to cut the half a dozen sub brands/range off their Lenovo phone line up and focus on Moto / Lenovo ZUK, pitching ZUK as the high end of the Lenovo local Asia brand and let Moto be the sole world brand. A whole bunch of devices of the Lenovo parent brand got drop off list of support to get new version of OS, which anger many Lenovo buyers in china. There was even a time whether this Z2 would get 6.0 was up in the air.

On paper the device is pretty good, but the ram is Emmc which is slower than rival xiaomi 5/5s series, it has less optimised camera and a smaller screen to boot but near identical profile size. It is less comfortable to hold in hand due to angular rear shell.

I would prefer xiaomi even Redmi over this, if mi5 has 4gB ram and 64GB storage and it is only 50 AUD more, get that. I own a Huawei Honor 6 and given similar angled back, it is far less comfortable in hand than the smooth curved rear mi5 or even Redmi 4/4x. specs aint everything, design comfort also need to be accounted for.

I would need to read up further on whether this phone will get android o and given anything runs 820 and beyond should be more than enough to do it

    • smaller screen to boot

You make this sound like a negative aspect.

      • It can be a negative if phone uses same footprint/weight as the smaller screened device.

    • eMMC is a storage type, not the ram. And yes the better flagship phones usually use the faster UFS. Not all flagships get the faster storage type, phones like the expensive HTC 10 still used eMMC. Which is disappointing that Android OEMs still compromise in this area on their flagships to save a few bucks.

      • I know, typo mate. those aint ROM either, just Storage, it needs a better name cause they ain hard drives.

  • Ok a few points here,
As someone has already point out, banggood has a very good priced Le Max 2

    http://www.banggood.com/LeTV-LeEco-Le-Max-2-X829-5_7-inch-4G…

Bigger screen, higher res and arguable better camera. The colour on both device will be soso as they use the same type of LCD. Don't compare it to an AMOLED. These are $250 phones. The Le max 2 also suffer from a slow and inaccurate fingerprint scanner. Apart from that I am very happy with this phone. Make sure you buy the X829 version which has American rom.

I am a fan of big phones so I will vote for Le Max 2 over the ZUk2 anytime and really smaller size would be the only reason you want to choose the ZUK2 over the Le Max 2.

    • At 181gm it's bulkier and heavier than most other phones.

    • Bigger screen

I'm sorry, but how is this a feature over the Zuk?

      • If you're asking what I think you're asking.. then it's a feature over the Zuk actually has a smaller screen?

Otherwise, it's just down to personal preference

        • Otherwise, it's just down to personal preference

I know this is the case, but they made it sound like an actual feature.

I've got one - it's very good. I've got a Lienage OS (Android 7.1) ROM on it. Battery lasts two days easy. It's just missing NFC and B28.

    • cheers, is this still the unofficial build? Do you get all the same features from the stock rom?

      • +1

Unofficial but the maintainer has a git repo up on GitHub, it's pretty well done. I never used the stock ROM, I went straight to Lineage, but it supports the Z2 specific stuff eg the utouch gestures and the flip cover.

Nothing missing on the ROM itself either. Has OTA updates.

  • Coupon does not work for me "This coupon could only be used 500 times"

  • +1

What can I get with B28 and NFC for around the same price? Travelling to China next month and wondering if I should buy something now or wait until I get over there. Smashed my Moto x style bought from here last week. 😯

    • Around the same price? Nothing

Probably need to pay $350+ for something with Band 28 and NFC.

      • That's not too bad though. Any suggestions?

  • Damn it. Just bought from DX.

    • At least you will get it within a reasonable amount of time ;)

TBH I trust DX more than Banggood.

You are right. I got Z2 on Fri.
I ordered LE max2 from Banggood one day before I ordered Z2. Now my lemax2 is in Genève. WTF

  • How does this one compared to redmi note 3?

  • If someone still wants this deal, maybe we can figure something out. I got 10% off coupon on the roll after purchase and looking at it the coupon can be used on smartphones and feature phones.

  • Always read about people buying something and then seeing a post on OzB and commenting about just buying the exact thing the other day. Now I can do it, this would have been worth waiting for, simply because everywhere I looked there were no black models, and the places that did have a black model were charging up to $100 more for the black over the white. Just bought a black case so don't think it will bother me too much having a white phone. Looking forward to my first Android phone, specs should mean it will be a joyful experience. Why does OzB love Lenovo so much?

  • Can confirm Nougat update ZUI 2.5 Chinese rom fixes camera and everything is pretty flawless. Also flashed two different third party roms besides the Chinese and Indian official ones, and they also fix the camera issues and improve a whole host of things.

If you don't want too much hassle, just flash the latest stock indian rom (no nougat atm) and you'll get OTA updates, the Chinese rom I have is fine but it's laden with Chinese text that I can't get rid of completely.

Just received mine today via courier (told you guys to pay the extra 15 bucks!). I am super surprised at the quality of this device and the innovation of the single home button. For the $200 bucks, it really is best bang for buck!

I am wishing I paid the extra. Bought from the deal on the 18/3, still waiting some 6 weeks later

I got mine on Monday (paid for the express shipping). And flashed the marshmallow Indian ROM (ZUI 2.0.093). Then got OTA updates to Nougat (ZUI 2.5.104). Pretty impressed by the snappiness of the device so far, and I come from an iPhone 6S and Nexus 6P experience.

    • Did you need to flash the original chinese rom first then move to the Indian rom to get the ota updates?

      • +2

I spent yesterday afternoon fiddling with it and did flash to one of the CN versions, although it was purely by accident as I wasn't paying attention to the filename.

After flashing to the Indian ROM, it didn't show any updates in the System Updater app. When tapping the 'Release Details' it would display an error about not being able to connect or something.

But just this morning after getting into the office and checking my phone I saw the update notification. I don't know what changed, it could have been the server was down or my home ISP not being able to connect - but it appears to be working fine now as I can view the release details.

I basically followed this comment on zukfans forums:

        Right way QPST: Flash 2.0.093 > OTA 2.0.133 > OTA 2.5.104

        https://zukfans.eu/community/threads/bugs-indian-nougat-2-5-…

    • Weirdly enough - mine actually came with the Indian ROM by default. I didnt need to flash it. ready to rock.

      • Are you sure?? what brought you to that conclusion?? If you go to Setting/ About do you see the ZUK Service Hotline number?

        • The version numbers checked out with the Indian ROM numbers available on the web. Not to mention that it default to New Delhi timezone when I first got it and also English(India) was an initial option. I dont have the phone with me now, but will prob check it tonight when I get home.
