  • Not a bad deal. COTD's Toshie i3 at $679 the other day with 320GB HDD is also strong, but $100 more for 500GB and i5 is definitely a good deal. Tosh makes a better product, but I'd still buy this one. Ya probably have to weeks to get the cashback, however.

    • Forgot to mention that, yep salesperson said 2 weeks deadline for the cashback.

      • Even that's no drama, it doesn't take long to register online, print out a form, snip a barcode & post the lot off! Easy $99 discount IYAM! ;)

  • monster specs for the price.. just heard the ad over the radio whilst reading this, so should be on at other harvey normans as well (depending on franchisee mood lol)

  • yeah, devvo'd that i got the toshy, but you get that :)

  • Sweet price!

  • Bought one today. Stores seem to have plenty of stock (not like HN's previous 10" Acer emachine deal). Castle Hill had 90 Blacktown had 67 in stock today.

    • yup and looking at ingram micro (the suppliers) manifesto, this looks like an exclusive HN deal - i dont think we'll be able to find it anywhere else in aus for a true price comparo, but looking at other units today with similar spec they were around $500 more - possibly less diference elsewhere but havent been following i5 lappie prices so going by what I saw.

Yes exclusive to HN. and yes comparable laptops are much more expensive

I played with it first time tonight. I'm amazed with the quality. The material, finish etc excellent. Never expected this better quality from acer. No need to talk about its spec it's a killer.

I see dozens of Acer laptops on a yearly basis; I can assure you they're as reliable as any other manufacturer; and a good deal better than certain others cough HP cough! :p

Those who dismiss them out of hand are always vastly lacking in real-world experience! ;)

  • any1 know what's the weight on this ?

    and battery cell ??

    • +1

      From memory 2.2kg 6 cells

      • thx a lot!. any change you could try how long that battery last under normal use ?

  • Does it have HDMI port?

    • Yes

  • Just bought this, great deal.
Did anyone find that the eject button on the DVD drive not that responsive? I had to press really hard and long on the little button before it would eject (software eject was fine). Want to know if I got a dud and exchange it.

    Cheers

    • Great deal but no positive vote?

      • he said great, not amazing :P

btw do you two know what real life (or manufacturer quoted for that matter) battery life is like on this bad boy? im curious like tinx above. thx

  • sorry, newbie, didn't know how to vote ~_~

  • Is this a better deal than the ASUS K52F-SX166V at Officeworks/Myer? That has a two year warranty.

  • with this specs it looks like a good pc for videoediting.
but with only one hdd it will struggle i guess.
    any thoughts ?

  • Arrrrh, just ordered a MBP 2 days ago, this looks awesome and good price too

    more info:

    • HDD 500gb 5400 rpm
    • HDMI port
    • 4 hrs battery life
    • WXGA 1366 x 768 16:9 screen
    • thanks mate, wanted to know batt life.

      • Just bear in mind, that laptop battery life is extremely variable; start working the cpu/gpu or spin up a drive for a while & watch that figure plummet, on any machine! ;)

        • Just charged it overnight (~12hrs) and using it now, I think real world batt life is more like 2.5 - 3 hours. It started off with 2hrs 59mins when I just got into windows then started jumping around in time left while I was browsing with wireless on only.

        • i know, that's just what HN put on the banner :)

          • @tinx: One thing, it'll be based on the same benchmark that all the others would be…the system just sitting idling on powersave settings! Good enough for a baseline figure though! ;)

  • I have checked this laptop in HN on Thursday night. I found 3 weak points for this one.
    1. the webcam is very slow despite good color. If you move in front of it, you can hardly see your self;
    2. speakers are too weak and lack of bass;
    3. hard drive is 5400 rpm, not a fast one.

Besides this, it's a good oaptop with good price.

HN also has HP dv6-3079tx, sales would do it at $1250. This one with i7-620QM, far better sound effect. But still n blu-ray.

    • If someone gave me a HP laptop I'd give it straight back; they would have to be the most unreliable POS I've ever seen, backed by a near worthless warranty & support service from HP! You might as well just make any warranty claims straight to the ACCC or your local state dept of Fair Trading!!! :o

We've got heaps of DV series units at work that HP are stalling on supplying new mobo's for, and our service agents tell me this little game they have been playing for years is still common practice for HP…I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy!!! :(

  • Bluetooth?
    ESata?

    Checked today. No to both

    • Bummer, that's me out then.

  • Could someone tell me whether LCD the screen is "matte" or "glossy"?

    • i think i read somewhere about crystal display, which means glossy - as most laptops are! :)

  • can anyone find some of the online reviews for this laptop?
