Hoyts Flat $10 Ticket Pricing for SA Cinemas

790

Just received the following email as I'm a Hoyts member (which expired a week ago).

Had a look on their website and it seems to be live and valid for everyone.

Can't find any other link to it on their site though, so just uploading my email with my name crossed out :)

Not sure if valid in any other states, but guess they are trying to compete with the vast amounts of online services we now have.

EDIT: Had a look at the other states on their website, seems like it's an SA only thing. So yay for us I guess!

No idea why they didn't do this earlier to match Reading.

  • Awesome! Used to be about $20+ per movie (Xtreme screen)

While on the topic of SA cinemas, my 2 favourite cinemas are Hoyts Norwood Xtreme screen and Marion Vmax screen.
Just curious what your preferred cinemas in ADL are?

    • +1

I love Norwood. Stop by Nordburger before your movie, and then head up to your show.

    • hey mate you should try out the new GU film house on Hindly street in the city. It has Vmax + dolby atmos now and the seats are amazing! it is located where the old Greater Union use to be.

      • Just tried GU Filmhouse yesterday and I have to agree with you, the seats are damn good!

Though it had to be good for the $21 adult price tag

        • +1

Just tried looking up the new alien movie at GU Filmhouse, $25 for an adult??

        • @Ughhh: yeah tad expensive there but i dont have the problem as im with telstra thanks (telstra rewards) and it gives me 11 normal price tix and 15 for vmax

For those wanting to try the excellent GU Filmhouse at Hindley St (or the one at Glenelg) use the voucher codes in this previous deal. The codes still work for online bookings. I've been enjoying $8 tickets for both cinemas for several months now.

With Hindley St, check out K Park on Playhouse Ln for $4 flat rate parking after 5pm and all day weekends. Only a 4 min walk from cinema.

    • went to capri theatre on monday to watch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, with optus perks. It's a really old place but theatre was good enough and nothing terrible.

Mitcham Wallis is pretty good for me as well but now they have taken off Optus Perks :(

Norwood and Marion is the best in terms of look and feel, price wise maybe not.

Went to Palace Nova last year to watch Batman vs Superman with uni ticket, was pretty good, lots of theatres.

      • +1

Mitcham Wallis is on ticket bounty so you can sometimes pick up cheap tickets there.

Salisbury just got redone with xtremescreen and reclining seats, definitely worth going if you live anywhere near the north.

      • +1

Much nicer too given its reguarly empty. Not to mention the TTP screens are the size of a tube television.. And a service counter that seems to only ever have 1 staff..

    • +1

      Marion VMAX by a stretch

  • +3

Event cinema at Arndale is $10 every movie now too.

    • A nice cinema and you park on the doorstep.

Went to purchase tickets online with my Cinebuzz for $10ea plus $2(?) booking fee. Then decided to buy it at the counter and it was $9ea! But the made the mistake of buying a packet of Starburst snakes for $6.50 :(

      • +4

Surrender your Ozbargain card for buying confectionary at the movies.

  • +2

Good price, if they offer a 1990's service it makes sense to charge 1990's prices.

I was down there back in Jan and went to a movie with a mate. No reclining chairs, had to print out my ticket and take it with me line up in the ticket queue and swap it over for another ticket and then join a candy bar line…

  • +3

Damn. You beat me to the post. I think this will get people back into cinemas. No more point going through Optus Perks.

    • i know right, this is damn amazing!

just look at this, going to hoyts via optus perks is now more expensive for an adult not a child though.

      • Only by about 60c more. The booking fee for the $10 tickets is in the fine print.

        • ofcourse it is. but buying tickets from the theatre physically is better now.

  • I was told as a Hoyts member that I get a $10 ticket but only at my specified cinema & I'm in WA. Was mentioned to me when I saw Ghost in the Shell

  • About time, I wonder if they were feeling the hit from readings and event cinemas $10 tickets. Even if you lived next door to hoyts TTP, it's still cheaper to get to West lakes, especially if in a group.

  • +3

The Hoyts Norwood and TTP Facebook pages posted this afternoon with these T&Cs: Online booking, 3D and Xtremescreen surcharges apply. Not valid for special event screenings.

    Goodbye Optus Perks

What's crazy is GU Film House in the city when it opened last year was $10 tickets all day every session when I went in October last year and January this year but have now been put up to $21!

Who the hell is going to pay $20 to go and see a movie?

This is why I see 90% of the movies I want to see at Reading, $10 a ticket.

    • Why is GU so special?

      • Brand new refitted cinema with the two biggest VMAX screens exclusively sporting Dolby ATMOS sound systems. Alcohol licence and fancy kitchen menu.
They are competing with PalaceNova ticket prices as they are the only two major cinemas in CBD not the multiplexes in the suburbs.

        • Does Palace still have the biggest screen in Adelaide?

        • @Autonomic: Yes. Their ExiMax is the largest screen in Adelaide.
The GU Filmhouse Adelaide VMAXs are a close second with a more immersive sound system

        • +1

          @Autonomic:

I will volunteer to find out for you, i'll start from Hindley st and look for any places with the word 'Palace'.

  • +1

Fantastic. TTP and Norwood both have supermarkets nearby too ;)

    • Cheaper food. Can make it to the movies with $50.

  • +1

I can't wait for chains in other states to follow suit when they realise not as many people are going to the movies anymore and paying their outrageous prices.

  • +1

    Mummy, what's a cinema?

    • +1

      Mummy, what's a cinema?

"Just a low-value form of entertainment, hun. You basically get to watch a movie in someone else's house. You have the option to eat toxic GMOs for a super-high price too."

"Part of your ticket price often goes to MPAA members, a cartel that does all it can to stifle competition from independent art, especially any art that doesn't come from a paying member of the cartel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDzblNKjsO0 "

  • Don't forget to post in the description that there is a booking fee.

    • +2

You can avoid the convenience fee by purchasing your tickets inconveniently at the ticket counter.

  • Hoyts Carousel in WA is now $10 movie tickets too. I saw a sign up when I was there yesterday - I assume there's probably a surcharge for 3D etc.

    • Yep surcharges for 3D and Xtremescreen. Need to be a Hoyts Silver member also.
Is supposedly only while the centre is being renovated. Hopefully they'll see a spike in ticket sales and reassess their normal pricing at all of them..

  • No love for NSW. :(
The reclining seats are the best! I can NEVER go back to Events now.

  • Omg yesssssssssssssssss
