  • great price - cheapest ive seen was $216.30 during ebay sales

I have one of these and the sound quality is fantastic for its size. I recommend turning down the bass if you want to go loud though.

  • +6

Awesome speaker, really great sound quality.
    However
I opted for the UE Megaboom for its waterproof rugged exterior also for $200. The sound quality isn't quite as refined as the Bose but it's a far louder speaker for outdoor BBQs and beach parties etc and 20 hour battery life.

If you don't think you'll travel around with it much or use it outdoors I would go for the Bose. If you want to take it to the beach or backpacking, get the Megaboom hands down.

Same for me :) had both, now just have the Megaboom. Great price for the Bose though!

    • +1

I agree and have had the megaboom for awhile. Want a 2nd one to use the double up option. Question is you mentioned $200. Where is it $200? Best I've ever seen is north of $250

      • +2

I managed to snag one using a 20% discount code from an eBay store about a month before Christmas. Seemed like they forgot to jack up the price first ;)

        • Congrats man. Super price. I'll bite when I can do 15% or so better than $250. Love mine. Took it overseas for 3 months. Poolside at resort. Strapped to the motorcycle riding slowly through the mountains. It's good to know others hold an opinion as high as mine on the megaboom.

    • where did u get the mega for 200?

Has anyone tried it for a PC speaker? or occasionally for use as an electric keyboard speaker?

    • +3

Yes, it is really good as a PC speaker. I use it on my laptop when watching movies/playing music.

  • +1

Really good sound for the size. We had a friend who came over and was shocked when he discovered it came from the tiny Bose. I lug it around in the laptop
during my travels for movies/music. What I like about the Bose is on my Windows 10 laptop, I have sound coming out through the laptop as default, but when I turn on the Bose, it automatically connects to the laptop and switches itself to be the default speaker. Not sure if this is just a default Bluetooth thing because it doesn't do that for my Sony headphones. It also automatically turns off after a period of time when no sound is active to save battery life.

The Bose makes is also useful for people who hate wearing headphones. I can watch TV or use the treadmill without blasting the TV across the room. I place the Bose next to my ears on the bed or on the treadmill and run without waking up everyone. The UE sounds interesting. It seems to have 360 deg sound + waterproof, which might be good for those who need it.

    • The reason it would connect automatically is near field communications (NFC), best thing to happen to Bluetooth in a while! On the Megaboom you can even just open up the app on your phone and turn it on remotely to save me getting my arse off the couch and turning it on with the button. This doesn't use any battery life either, it 'pushes' a signal to the Megaboom's Bluetooth receiver which then tells the unit to turn on.

      • +3

Are you sure you understand what is NFC? NFC's range is very limited up to 10cm only. see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near_field_communication

Unless the laptop and speaker are sit on top of each other, NFC won't be able to do anything.

        • Ah so it seems I have.

Well the Megaboom still has NFC and it's also possible to pair this way

Seems like this was what I was referring to:

"some smart devices (smartphones and tablets) come equipped with a newer technology called Bluetooth Smart (or Bluetooth Low Energy, BLE). This feature is required to turn your speaker on and off remotely within the UE BOOM app."

      • As simonhang said, that's not due to NFC.
NFC is like what a paywave credit card uses.

      • +1

NFC is used for easy initial pairing of the Bluetooth connection. It doesn't get involved after that.

    • It's mostly windows related. On windows 10 you can set the "default playback device"

What you do is connect the BT speaker, then set the default to the connected speakers. Now if it connects it will use that default device, but when disconnected it uses the previously available device.
Logic is a bit iffy (they should have provided a ordered priority list) but once you experiment you will get the idea. I use this to automatically play thru my USB DAC when I turn it on the dac.

  • eBay got some seller on the same price with C20TEK code plus cash rewards

This is a good price. Bought ours in October last year and is used every single day. The quality of the sound is great and it is elegant looking.

  • Saying out of stock for me!

  • If only it had a clock on it.

    • Buy one and keep on it.

  • These are good but the UE Boom wins for me. Simply because of the durability. Covered mine in plaster dust and still going strong.

  • I've got the Bose Soundlink Mini, and the quality on these speakers are great IMO. Great portability and good battery too. I totally recommend Bose.

  • +2

Absolutely great product with great quality for it's tiny size. Pairing on W10 and iOS flawlessly working.
However everyone considering to purchase those be aware about a possible bug that those speakers are shipped with out of the box. Mine did not turn on every time I stopped using them for a couple of days although battery was charged to e.g. 60%. I was forced to put them on the docking station to turn them on which was kinda annoying. Bose is completely aware about this bug and fixed it in a firmware update. The update process is quick and easy. Might be possible that they are already shipped on the latest firmware now.

    • cheers, might go and get mine updated this week

  • Bought one. One of my clients had the first edition. Really good quality of sound and it looks nice too.

  • Great find OP. Had a lazy $200 sitting around from my birthday and this fit the bill nicely :)

  • Thanks OP. Just bought one :)

  • Great speaker. Highly rec'd

  • I want it but it won't let me use a Coles Myer gift card reducing it to $99 :(

    • same I cant use my coles & myers gift card

they only let myers gift card.

ill see if I can buy in shop

  • Good price compare to other retailer prices.
However i would prefer the jbl charge 3 which is 179 at binglee. Its more durable , water proof , can use as a powerbank and is way louder

  • This is a nice unit, but the lack of a 'skip track' button really annoys me (mine was a gift). Given a choice, I'd opt for something else with said button, like a UE Megaboom. Also stays on when BT is connected, but no music playing, draining the battery, although I expect they all do that.

  • The paradox of the Bose soundlink mini is that it is portable but not designed for outdoor use. For home use, the sound quality is good but still not as good as a decent 2.1 speaker at about half of the price. If you want bluetooth for your current speaker at home, the easiest solution is to get a bluetooth adapter.

  • seems expired? the code returns only 10 percent discount with and without the myerone number

  • Deal expired? Website's showing $249.00, and the code will take it down to $229.00
