How..? I see AU $229.60. is there a coupon code or something..?

      • Nah but if you have mates working at JB 😜

  • I rather use Google maps and save myself $217.55

How do you get speed cameras and speed limit warnings on Google maps..? Plus the P-Plate complication, not allowed to touch phone and all that..

      • I have here maps (Nokia) and tom tom speed cameras apps running at same time. Works well.
I'm a p plater and I have mine running through my head unit, if you don't have a compatible one then youre better off with a standalone gps

Waze give you speed cameras plus you can mark police locations in the app showing you RBTs and such

      • -5

        Don't speed and you'll be fine :)

      • Try Waze app it shows cameras and speed warnings as Tom Tom does

i use metroview on ios… works well, speed warnings, camera warnings… and get some discount itunes cards, cheap as chips.

        • This is the one I've been using for years too. Great app!

  • Was about to get one from JB Hi fi, luckily i waited for a bit. OP do you know since all p plates are not allowed to use a phone at all, do you allow to connect your gps to your phone for live traffic update? Does the speed cameras and speed limit warnings require you to connect to you phone for datas? Thanks.

    • I got a Tom Tom 5200 with built-in sim card in it which updates the traffic info while driving, it updates over Wiand it also reads out the messages I get while driving. Give a try if you're keen to buy Tom Tom

      • Just bought the 520. Yeah, I have read about the 5200 and 6200 but unfortunately they are out of my budget. Thanks.

        • Good investment, I bought one too. Regarding your question about speed cameras and speed limit warnings through phone data:

          TomTom Services via Smartphone
Activate live services like traffic by connecting to your smartphone via the TomTom MyDrive app. Your TomTom GO uses your smartphone's data connection to provide you with real-time traffic, speed camera updates and MyDrive content. On average, less than 10 MB of data per month is used.

The difference between 520 and 5200 is that 520 provides services through phone while 5200 provides services directly through inbuilt sim card. Ironically 5200 doesn't offer services via smartphone in case the inbuilt data sim fails for some reason. https://www.tomtom.com/en_au/drive/car/products/go-6200/

  • Waze is defiantly far superior. I connected a android os box into my infotainment system and run waze through that. Only reason I can see for a gps is p platers. Waze is better and free ;)

Does Waze offer offline navigation? Are apples far superior than oranges?

      • Whos not connected to the internet?
You can spend the $217 you save from this gps on data

        • You also need a mobile platform to run the app. I also prefer Waze over Tomtom, but you are still comparing apples with oranges. Not to mention that you can use Google maps offline or Nokia Here offline and save on mobile data.

  • Definitely don't buy TomTom GPS any more

Here's what I found after owning the device for less than a month

"And I've completely given up on TomTom, my tomtom 5200 less than 1-month-old is unable to pick up my voice when using the voice control function (with default phrase and custom phrases). It will work for about an hour after reset and then completely stop working.

Also the device is failing to recognise red light cameras that my older version (5100) would recognised.

Just returned it to the retailer and vowed never to go back to tomtom. They need to do some proper testing before they release a product. Seems like all their latest products have been duds."
