We've noticed that you have not accessed OzBargain for more than 90 days so we unsubscribed you

What is this? Just because I dont come to the site you remove all my subscriptions? I use email and RSS so why do we have to do this silly re subscribe dance? Terrible UX.

  • There's a cost associating email notification, and we are in the process of reducing the amount of emails we need to send out. If you have not logged onto OzBargain then we consider that your account is no longer active and we do not want to fill up your inboxes with emails you do not intend to read. To prevent this, just accessing OzBargain once every 90 days while logging in is sufficient. You can also continue to use RSS without logging in.

    • Maybe just unsubscribe those who didn't read their emails?

It shouldn't be that hard to track whether an email is read with all the transactional mail services out there.

Perhaps that would involve more human intervention (I could be 100% wrong). But as others have said, it's not hard to login to OzB once every 3 months.

      • For transactional mail service to work, the mail client has to fire back at our servers on emails being opened & read to keep track whom have read what. Open-rate tracking is usually done via a tracking pixel embedded inside the email, and

        • Most email clients these days don't load embedded images by default
        • We send 100,000+ emails a day (not including deferred or bounced), and even 20-30% loads a tracking pixel it's still considerable overhead. Yet the result is still not conclusive because of above point.
        • 3rd party transactional mail services can get quite expensive at the volume we are sending.

Yes there are solutions. Just that from my point of view, accessing a page with a logged in session at least once every 90 days is a good enough assessment that you are still interested in receiving these emails.

        • Thanks for the insight. Yep that sounds fair enough. :)

    • and we do not want to fill up your inboxes with emails you do not intend to read

Seriously? I cant have enough of these emails

You're probably in the minority of people who use this setup. Logging in once every 3 months can't be that hard.

    Too much spam = complain.
    No spam = complain.

Seems all his contribution on OzB has been complaining.

90 days? I log on every 90 seconds.

Weak. 90 times a second is where it's at.

I have become one with the Ozbargain servers. I don't even have to login.

That being said, please send help. Been stuck here since 2008… the MCP is watching me gotta run

        • I always suspected….

the MCP is watching me gotta run

Wait. I thought we are using Linux here.

  • At first I read this as if you were deregistered from the site :)

I do appreciate the irony though. People that are on here all the time wouldn't need those subscriptions.

  • Probably wouldn't have such a drop-off if the login cookie was refreshed when visiting to read posts. I don't bother logging in if I'm just reading stuff.
