  • ROI isn't good

3000 Flybuys = 1500 velocity points (with current 15% promotion)
1500 velocity points = $15 when sold in the classifieds

That's a good enough ROI for me..

      • +11

Or $15 off at coles and save messing with velocity.

Title is misleading/confusing. When you activate a "$30" sim you get 3000 Flybuys points (worth $15). You can buy the sim for $10.

  • How can you buy the starter kit @ $10 ?

  • You have to buy it online on the Optus website (linked in the email) for $30. You don't get the bonus points if you purchase it from Coles for $10. So basically one or the other, not both.

    • +1

Both if you buy it online.
Its showing $10 when you proceed to checkout + 3000 flybuys points.
      Also
flybuys BONUS POINTS on Optus prepaid purchases will be allocated up to 30 days post activation on the Optus network. 1 allocation of BONUS POINTS per product purchased

Ah I see now. I was on mobile before and it didn't show. I apologise. I have now revoked my neg.

  • Thanks! I had deleted this ;) Will it be OK to sell on the SIM and still collect the points?

  • +2

When do you have to activate the sim by to get the bonus points. Can I sit on the sim for a while before I use it and still qualify?

    • +3

A quick call to Optus - they said that as long as we activate the prepaid SIM before expiry, we'll get the 3000 flybuys points. Hope this helps

  • +1

Anyone know which flybuys email list you have to be subscribed to get this and other offers? There are so many!
Under https://www.flybuys.com.au/my-account/communication-preferen… there are about 30 options. I've just enabled "Coles: Weekly exclusive offer emails" + "Coles: Your weekly specials emails" + "flybuys program reward emails". I'm assuming that it's one of those?

  • +1

Why does the shopping cart ask for a mobile number?

Do you need an existing number - e.g. if I'm on a long expiry prepaid plan, what happens if I activate this offer with my existing number?

  • bought one, do we need to activate the prepaid service to get the flybuys points?

    • +1

Yes, According to T&C: flybuys BONUS POINTS on Optus prepaid purchases will be allocated up to 30 days post activation on the Optus network. 1 allocation of BONUS POINTS per product purchased

    Dear Sim Sluts!

Points will not be awarded if you have cancelled your service within the first 120 days.

120 days condition is only for Post Paid service..

        • Alright

So now, does that mean $10-f$15= $5 earning+28 days service?! sounds confusing!

    • 'cancelled' is not the same thing as churning away, and it only applies to postpaid anyway.

    • That exclusion was for postpaid plans. For prepaid there is no such condition.

  • Thanks op, bought one to make $5 lol

  • Can I keep buying over and over again?

    • From the T&C above:

Offer may be redeemed once only per flybuys Member.

      • Once per flybuys member. Does this mean that multiple members of the same 'flybuys household' can purchase via the link to each receive the bonus points?

  • Does anyone know what is the usual expiry period on Optus prepaid sims?

I've avoided any Optus sim purchases because of the labels on the front of the starter packs stating that they must be activated within 30 days of purchase. That just won't work for me.

But, I gather that the REAL expiry date is on the back of the starter kit.

Telstra sims usually have 12-18 months before expiry. Are Optus similar?

Just today I activated a card bought on January 23rd. It had one of those 30-day stickers. It activated just fine with the $30 credit intact.

I think the sticker is for two purposes: to make sure they can stop any promotions (like double data or similar) within 30 days of selling a SIM that displayed under such a promotion banner. And to scare people into quickly activating cards.

IMHO the only thing that really counts is the expiry date on the back of the pack.

  • If I buy the SIM for $10 through the link before 04/05 but activate it in a later date, say 3-4 weeks time, can I still get the flybuy points? Does the T&C imply that you have to activate before 30/06/17?

    • Or what if the SIM doesn't get to you until after 04/05 - worth checking with Optus.

    Thanks mate.

actually, great deal with the free burrito and 3 months spotify premium, plus a profit of $5..

Don't have any intention of using the sim after expiry, but 3gb data might come in handy.

HAHAHAHA! Pure Gold ! Read this

I do not have this offer in my flybuys (FB) account, nor did I receive an email. So I called flybuys on their 13 number.

Spoke to a guy, who said he's new there, and asked him why is there no FB love for me !

He put me on hold a few times, while he checked something/made coffee/answered other calls/spoke to his supervisor etc etc

Going nowhere, I thought I would give him the link to this webpage. Once he typed it in, he again put me on hold and spoke to his 'supervisor'. He came back with these golden words, "Oh my supervisor says its an Ozbargain scam. We do not have any control over what other websites publish. Be careful about giving your credit card to these them". Hahahaha that 'supervisor' made my day !

I asked him if I could speak to the 'supervisor' as I was a bit saddened/hurt at someone calling Ozbargain a 'scam'. Obviously that request was turned down !

    aaahhhh flybuys !

I got a good laugh out of it, don't worry about the 3000 points !

    • Singh is King ! Check mate , I have got you :D

  • I received a new email earlier on today with the exact same offer (still $10 for the $30 pre paid starter kit). Even though I was sent this offer back when it was live so makes me wonder do I do it again?

    • Going by the last offer with the Mastercard gift cards I'd say you'll only get it once.

  • Has anyone received the flybuys points?

    • +2

Just got them. It hasn't shown up in the transaction history yet, but I just checked all 3 accounts I purchased a SIM with and all have increased by 3000 points from what they were yesterday. I purchased the SIMs on the 2/5/17 and only one was activated on the 8/5/17. So it looks like you may not need to activate them to receive the points. I'll confirm this once the transaction history updates.

      • My points just arrived as well.

      • you can find the transaction purchased on February.
I do not know why but you can see it on past date

  • Ordered May 1, Activated May 8, still waiting for points.
