    Perfect for someone retiring.

Will the 240V car run on our 230V mains? Also the range will be limited by the extension cord. ;)

Why would they be taking tyres off the rim, instead of swapping the whole wheel?

    • +1

Are you suggesting that they buy wheels with the tyres fitted every time?

      • It was a question. I'd have thought you have all your tyres on rims before you race or go off-road.
And then take your dead wheels to the tyre shop to get new tyres fitted and balanced, the same as an ordinary commuter.
Not true? (Of course I'm not talking about professionals who have their own garage.)

        • +1

If you're racing (talking cct here), more than likely you could be swapping between compounds and even brands of semi's or slick's. Not really feasible to have 3-4 sets of wheels for most grassroots guys as a good set of racing wheels could easily get up to $4,000 (or more). Paying to have tyres removed and put back on at most tyre shops is $10-20 a tyres depending on how much effort they put into the balancing.

Also during practice days, you're more likely to take out used rubber, but for a race meet or supersprint (if you're keen), you'd be on fresh rubber, so something like this could work out.

          Here's what poor racers use:

        • @BlinkyBill:

Thanks for the explanation. Sounds like an expensive hobby.
At least that one works when you don't have 240V handy.

I can strip and refit tyres with a mallet, levers and maybe a bead breaker.

    • +3

I'm just trying to imagine one of these things being in the pit lane, with the formula 1 driver having a coffee while they changes his tyres.

    • Because they get punctures, a lot. Paying the shops to fix those at $50 a shot or doing it manually kinda sucks if you have to strip the tyre.

  • Most car tyre shops are franchised so lock, stock and barrel comes from
    the franchisor.
Fancy and serious equipment to have in one's garage.

  • Im so Tyred.

    • Have you been on the road too much? Too much pressure? Just roll with it and stop wheeling around and around. Tread some new paths.
