Best Watch Shops for Australians to Purchase from?

So I've been looking for a new watch for a while, my budget gradually being dragged upwards in the "whats another $100" range.

I was just curious, what is the best, most reliable shop for Australians to purchase from? I'm looking at Seiko Automatics, so I assume they will have a local warranty, but I'd rather a reputable, reliable shop than saving $20 overall.

Thanks for any help.

  • I've bought from Starbuy - but they probably fall into the 'saving $20 overall' category. I've never had to return anything so can't speak to their service.

Absolutely, I'd use them without question, but they have more of a 'very limited range' issue and I can't find anything I want on their site.

  • Watches of Switzerland and don't pay RRP - immediately ask for 30% off minimum.

  • "Watch station" in DFO sydney

They have a large collection of watches, have a YouTube channel for comparisons and reviews, $5 flat rate shipping to Aus.

Hi xuuj, I received your pm but thought I would answer it here -

Being a professional, I don't buy from many Aus watch store's as they don't have many bargains. After Starbuy, the only other place I have bought a watch from is ozmobiles on eBay. I bought my Seiko SKX007K2 from here when there was a $100.00 eBay voucher. This is my favourite watch.

You have asked to find an Aus store to buy the Seiko SNZF17K1. I doubt there would be a store that sells it for a reasonable price, so here is the Amazon link, which is the next best thing if you want a reliable seller with a reputation for good customer service - US$141.32 + $8.43 Shipping = $149.75 (approx $202.15)

While this watch is very nice, it's not really a true dive watch. It's only 100m & has a push down crown. Also for around this price you can get the legendary Seiko SKX007. Old post for specs & reviews.

You can buy it on eBay for $189.05 shipped on rubber with code C5OZ or $236.84 with a bracelet
As you can see the saving is more than $20 or $30, and you can read customer feedback & use paypal, so for me it's a no brainer.

    • Awesome mate, thanks a lot for the information! Thats also great ebay store!

The main reason I prefer the F17K1 over the 007 is the clear back. I like being able to see the automatic movement. Plus also, I have no intention of even wearing it in a shower, let alone diving with it. Its purely a daily driver. I just like the style of these dive watches.

Thanks a lot for the the links though, I'll have a dig through that ebay store. I also stumbled upon creation watches which I think is another good website for cheap prices, but I would generally prefer just to buy off ebay.

      • No problems, you should always buy what you like as you're the one who will be wearing it.

I've never worn my Seiko SKX007 swimming either, but it's not all about that anyway. A higher water resistant rating usually means a better build quality, which you will appreciate for a lot longer than the novelty of a display caseback.

        • Yep, that is very true. Especially since the price is more or less the same. I'll have a look into both before making my final decision.

  • the problem with aus stores is the same as it ever was… poor selection, long wait times, poor price, poor local knowledge

the first is a killer… if you dont have the stock or cant get them, they you are useless to me

i cant think of any aussie store that truly deserves your patronage at any level, from seiko to a rolex

    • The price is killer too. A lot of Australian stores sell watches for literally twice the price of what you can buy them everyday online for. How do they expect to appeal to anyone who vaguely knows what they're talking about with those kind of prices?

      • australia ia a backwater really… look at all the popular chains like prouds michael hill goldmark etc.

        waste of time isnt it?

        • I quite like using them to try on watches and just not purchase from them. They're good for that… however most of them have such a poor range its hard to do even that.

I've also noticed they run a range of watches that don't seem to be the popular ones in online communities, the same range of manufacturers, just different watches.
