    • Any fare that you purchase that has a Qantas or Jetstar flight number will be eligible for lounge access prior to departure, as long as there is a lounge open in the airport you're flying from.

Just as a warning though - Jetstar flight times don't always match up with lounge opening hours, and the flights don't always depart from the terminal with a lounge. An excellent example of this is SYD domestic, where the lounge is in T3, to serve QF departures, but the majority of JQ domestic flights depart from T2.

      • +1

A better example is Melbourne domestic airport, you need a formula 1 car to get from the lounge to Jetstar gate in 15 minutes

wtf do you get for your $900 (normal price) a year?

    • +3

You get to tell all your friends that you are special because you can enter the Qantas lounge and they can't. They will be so jealous. Most people still think the lounge is a place of privilege and luxury.

      • +1

Little do they know it's a nicer looking Sizzler with crap all food options lol

        • +1

Would be insane if they actually had that sizzler french bread

Qantas Club Membership is free for employee's of some companies. Check with yours before buy.

    • I am highly skeptical that any company just blindly hands it out to all staff. You would need seniority and/or X trips per year and anyone eligible would have figured that out long ago.

Many companies have removed it completely on the basis that if you need X trips then you would be gold anyway.

      • +1

I am not saying the companies pay for the membership. I think the Qantas give it for free. May be it is just the joining fee.

It's like unlimited international calls on a mobile phone plan … very few people get any benefit from it:

          1) Gold frequent flyers get lounge access anyway
          2) Business/First class ticket holders get lounge access anyway
          3) People with #1 and #2 don't like spending extra time in airports, so they arrive at the airport as close to departure time as possible.

The only people that would get a benefit from such a scheme are junior employees who only fly infrequently. I'm sure they're clever enough to wrangle a guest pass or tag along with one of their senior colleagues.

  • +5

The biggest benefit I see in this is having access to good showers on international connections. eg LAX

  • This is just the same as getting rid of the ridiculous joining fee that was on top of the annual fee. Renewal for me is $510, and Qantas is not offering discounts for renewal.

I am better off letting my membership lapse and waiting for another deal and signing up for multi years when the next discount appears

These lounges are like the Platinum credit cards. Once upon a time they were 'special'. Nowadays every tom dick and harry has access to them and more often than not it's full of riff raff who look like they haven't eaten in days and boozing up just cos it's free. I'd rather sit at a cafe before my flight without the urge to tell all my 'friends' on FB that I've just checked into some lounge. Business/First class lounge is another story.

    • Pretty much this.. I bought lifetime membership (which they don't sell any more) about 15-20 years ago for about $2000 at the time (from memory), 1/2 the time I don't bother using it.

    • +2

people who 'check in' to these lounges on FB need to have their heads checked.

      • facebook is a great place to show off

      • +1

people who 'check in' to these lounges on FB need to have their heads checked.

My personal opinion is anyone who "checks" into where on social media needs their heads checked. Are you on holiday for yourself or just to brag?

    • Or you know, go via Dubai and enjoy the Emirates Business class lounge which isn't as you describe it. Qantas domestically, sure.

  • since i only travel 3-4 times a year I use my free ANZ/Westpac black cards qantas lounge pass, save $537 annual fee

    • only work in Qantas owned and operated lounges, won't work in LAX :(

      • using Westpac Black credit card i use 2 free Priority Pass entries at any other airport

    I prefer Virgins

It's $425 with the ANZ black credit card. Sell your 2 complimentary Qantas club passes for $100 and it takes it down to $325 for the first year.

    • Haven't paid any annual fee yet for the black cards, I cancel before the free first year lapse

      • Yeah neither have I. I am talking about the Qantas club membership. If you hold an ANZ black card you get a discount on Qantas club memberships.

  • Why do you only get access to a lounge when you're flying with that particular airline?

Surely if you've paid your annual membership fee then you should be able to access it every time you fly-regardless of who with.

Your ticket must be subsidising the lounge facilities.

    • They've probably done their research and found far more people will choose to fly with them with that restriction than memberships they'd sell if they let them fly with anyone.
      I'd believe that too.

Works on me anyway. I will fly oneworld (so luckily not quite so locked in at least) for anything over a couple of hours for the access.

  • Dont see how this is value, unless you travel more than 5 times a year.

Even then, you are paying $100 per visit.

I only fly business anyway, so i guess i will see more economy class customers in the lounge next year.

The domestic lounge in Sydney is shit, dirty and the food is similar to what you find in a 3 star hotel.

    • +2

If you only fly business you would walk straight in to the business lounge…..

      • +1

That's for domestic. International business lounge is the base lounge. But then if you're flying International Business every time you should be walking into the First Class Lounge …

        • How can i walk into the First lounge when i fly international business? I'm a QFF Gold 1100SCs, reset 1st July. I've asked previously at Melbourne and Sydney and no dice!

        • @crazycs: haha well that was made on the presumption you'd be 100 over the threshold not under it!

          Quick book something :P

  • If I sign up right now, do I have to wait for receipt of a membership pack (or whatever) before I can enter?

The reason I'm asking is that I have a flight tonight!

    • +1

Once you are accepted into the program your boarding pass will have a QC printed on it, so you don't need your card, just flash the boarding pass at entry and you are good to go.

Your issue will be whether it gets updated in time.

      • +1

Yeah, my ticket has the QC on it, so all good.

Brisbane lounge is a bit rough though compared to others I've been too. Place seems full of insurance salesmen, empty plates and people like me!

  • I think there's some real value there with the Qantas Club if you can take your spouse and children with you as your guests. Any meal at an airport for a family of 5 is going to be $$$.

    • Are all the kids allowed in for free?

      • Qantas Club members can bring one guest into the lounge. Further:

        (c) children aged 3 years or under are not counted as guests for the purpose of determining the number of guests of the Member. However, Qantas may limit the number of child guests per Member to two.

        • So you can take a guest plus up to 2 children into the lounge.

      • I have been getting my kids in between Melb and Perth, who are now 4 and 7. I am wondering how long that will last. No-one has ever asked me their age, even though they are tall. My kids are pretty well behaved so won't get thrown out. Not sure how you throw reject two cute smiling kids with a single dad.

        • I've been throw rejected by girls in the past. It hurts when you land

        • It will last until they are 17.

You can take 2 children between 4 and 17 years old without them counting as a guest

        • @antt: Thanks, I would not renew mine unless I could get the kids in. I live a long way from the airport and travel to Perth a bit so having a quiet comfortable spot to rest, toilet break etc before the flight has helped my kids be better passengers.

    • Any meal at an airport for a family of 5 is going to be $$$.

Pretty sure Maccas and Jacks have standard pricing don't they? :P

  • Can you use the lounge even if your flying JQ (jetstar) internationally?

  • I know I'm late, but wanted to thank the poster for this bargain. The discount was all I needed to convince my boss to pay for my club access.

  • Another option is to use a company membership code. There are different corporate rate depending which company you join through. At one time (I am not sure whether it is still available) if there were more than 10 people wanting membership a company/group (e.g. sporting group) you could apply for a corporate membership code.
