PRESSREADER - Now FREE Access to Newspaper/Magazine Downloads - Using Library Card

240

For Quite a while we could obtain Magazines and International Newspapers for Free using the Library as a hotspot. - They have now extended it so using just your library card number and password You can now download for free from the comfort of your home.

Just Download the PRESSREADER App (Free) to your tablet, or https://www.pressreader.com on your computer select 'sign in, then choose library card

Input your Library Card details to access 3 days of downloads. - Once this time expires - sign out and log in again to reset the subscription

If your not a member of a Library listed, then register with the library online - Worked fine for me. - had card number by return email

Unfortunately limited AUS newspapers as Newscorp will not allow pressreader to publish them. But I use it to get the latest magazines and UK/US papers.

Good find. Despite my library not appearing in the list I chose the only one in the state and it worked. Pity no Choice magazine, but good array of mags in general.

Logging in with Newcastle Region Library, I got 5 days complimentary access on my ipad and android device… might be different per library..?

The National Library of Australia also provides free access. You can get a free library card from http://www.nla.gov.au/getalibrarycard/

Library Card login access is currently unavailable (sent them an email to get this resolved) however you can get around this via:

    • Sign up for free PressReader account using email address, google or facebook
    • Load the Press Reader website via NLA eResources and then sign in using your Press Reader Login
    • Seven Days free access will be provided from the NLA
    • Select a publication and select open in free PressReader app
    • Selected publication will now download on your mobile device

Once you do all these convoluted steps you will be able to just use the Mobile app to select & download for 7 days…

Will advise when the NLA gets back to me

    • Thanks, appreciate if you continue posting anything you find

  • PS there's also Zinio for Magazines.. check if your library gives u access

Got a reply to the following query:

Hi there, Press Reader now allows Library card users to link their Library card to their Press Reader account to gain free full
access to all magazines and newspapers. I noticed I was able to link my Newcastle Region Library card but not my NLA card..? Was
wondering if you guys were aware of this new feature? See: https://blog.pressreader.com/2017/04/28/use-library-card-unl…

Also, I read in the help section Libraries can configure their licences to unlimited (new feature of pressreader not pressdisplay).. > see: https://care.pressreader.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001408266-…

Thank you for contacting the National Library of Australia

The new licensing agreements for Library Press display are currently under consideration by the Library, we thank you for your interest. Unfortunately due to the way we access this database the remote login using your library card is not able to be
    activated with our subscription.

I hope this information is of assistance. Good luck with your research.
